Stop calling that a protest. Call it something that reflects the fact that criminal damage was done in the name of a cause. I'm Māori and I see both sides of this situation. I also see the political situation around the world and want peace for the people of the treaty. My mokopuna includes little Māori guys and little pākehā guys. @@krisp4889 Not at all. You set up a straw man by calling it a "grievance industry " and that is a weak way to address the situation. Hi Mike! I can see how you've got yourself all confused. It's pretty easy if you aren't paying attention or indeed, think for yourself. See, when the previous govt introduced the name change, the opposition lost their collective minds, mainly pointing at THE COST of the change. So, now that they are the govt and are proposing another name change, logic would dictate that a question of cost must be asked. Otherwise (and here in lays the kicker, get ready, you wont like it) it EXPOSES THE HYPOCRISY OF NATIONAL ETC when they cried about the cost initially. Do you understand now?
@jaywontdart
@jaywontdart Жыл бұрын
Consider: initially names were changed to be more inclusive. Cost wasn’t a reason to change the numbers to be more New Zealand specific. But cost is brought up now, because the whole point of the new government is cutting costs, cutting spending, and I would argue, cutting essential services. All sorts of things are getting cut - even the phase out of smoking! We want to get new customers hooked on smoking cigarettes, just for tax revenue, to fund my incoming $20.05 a week taxcut….. So: if this new government is so fixated on money and cutting services, cutting costs…..but then spends millions on new signage? That looks like a vanity project. It looks like the cash strapped guy spending $1000 on a personalised plate for their old clunker car, just so it says his name “PHIL” on the front :-) It looks like a waste of money, for very little gain.

Hopefully they face the full penalty for their actions. A conversation does need to happen (hearing all sides and perspectives, not just one sides) regards the treaty as there seems to be quite differing takes on what it means. Clearly even amongst the protestors as they disagree with the English version. So sure they have started some conversation, correct. But I’m not sure what they are protesting about. This government has said it will look at clarifying how the treaty is interpreted so discussion will be able to be had as part of that process. No outcome has been determined yet. Literally nothing has happened other than a bunch of people catastrophizing about what might happen. They have only been in government what two or three weeks now and already those that didn’t get who they wanted in government are spitting the dummy like children. Individual behaviour and action is what will fix this country. Not the government of the day. People need to be better individuals. Take ownership of their actions, do positive things for themselves and others. Stop relying on the government to fix their woes. Or we can have chaos and anarchy like it seems some people want. Tax policy should not allow the wealthy free reign to make large sums without paying tax while taking every cent they possible can on wages? Making people pay on all income just as they do with wages is not punishing the successful, it's making things equitable to what wage earners have to pay which is on every dollar earned. The idea that collecting money from millions of dollars received from profit on, for example, a sale of a property, and then to say it costs more to administer than what the tax department would recieve is ridiculous, as is the idea that it is penalizing success.

If you rip the Treaty up, then you take Aotearoa-New Zealand right back to the Time of Maori Authority in Maoriland-(NZ) For your knowledge one of the Highest Authorities in the country, never Signed the Treaty. Ariki Tekani Atakirau. So this, could go either way? Again I Repeat, Maori Sovereignty was NEVER given away to the British! Truth be told.

@erina4586 of course it wasn't given. It was conquered. And if a party didn't sign the treaty, what entitles them to protection under the law?

There is only one treaty, it is called Te Tiriti. If you have any confusion around this then google Contra proferentem. It is a rule of contract interpretation that states an ambiguous contract term should be construed against the drafter of the contract. The term contra proferentem is derived from a Latin phrase meaning “against the offeror.”

That is the maori translation from well after it was written. There was no maori word for treaty at the time.

Vandalism designed to shut down conversation is not ‘Protest’ it is vandalism. The level of woke idiocy on display by one news and the green propagandist woman is both dangerous and cringe worthy.
