Live this event looks like fun, kinda like darts; it would need to be edited like a youtube golf chanel (I can't see myself ever watching as is) - needs to give a story: these highlights are meaningless.

Yep, it's freezing cold in England right now. That technology has been around for quite a while and is used by many professionals, coaches and club makers to monitor things like launch angle, spin rate etc. If that can be monitored accurately then transferring the outcome onto a screen projection is pretty simple.

I don't get it. It looks basically identical to the nonsense that has become popular on youtube in recent years. I really couldn't care less what the players are saying to each other and the crowd needs to learn some respect. The crowd should be quiet when a player is hitting a shot. The arena is custom built with multiple teams already signed up , it's just a bit fun for close season and in-between events. It's a laugh and a good crowd experience , it isnt meant to overtake any thing.

Other than for the initial curiosity, I can't really understand why anybody would want to watch this? Having said that, I read somewhere that one of the biggest pastimes of young people these days is watching others play video games online. I mean, as a 36 year old man, I don't understand why anybody would want to do that either. So, maybe I'm just an out of touch old git and this is going to be hugely successful.

I like yourself am curious as to this concept, I'll see how it evolves and determine further down the line. But to answer your question about watching video games, it's essentially the same as why you watch someone play any game/sport rather than play yourself or why you would watch say a cooking show rather than cook yourself, it's usually due to either the entertainment the show/player brings or watching someone/people good at something compete at a high level against others in something you are interested in. Don't worry, man. We can get you back in touch with the ever-changing landscape of the world.

I think the appeal comes from the ability to implement digitally created courses that are fun and interesting. Also, the pace of the game is much faster than traditional golf, which appeals to a wider audience. Having regionally based teams to support helps as well.

I myself don’t have an opinion on TGL yet, I’ll wait to see how it evolves and see if it gains any traction. It’s a big shake up of the game that’s unlikely to appeal to the older generation of golfers, but it has potential to gain traction with the younger generations coming forward. It’s already popular in places like Korea from what I’ve heard. I don’t think it’s a bad thing that they’re trying something new.
