The real problem is that there's a world of difference in commentating and punditry. But the two have become fused together as people are now all about giving their opinions. Old school like Martin Tyler just commentated on the game, captured the emotions of it and relayed what they were actually seeing. No opinion needed.

@Ceno-2k12 сағат бұрын
When did he say he was surprised? And are you defending the moral integrity of such a system? If not, then you're in agreement with him, you're just too stupid and/or indoctrinated to be able to follow a sentance enough to realise you agree with it -- which is really quite sad.
@TheRatlord748 сағат бұрын
When did we vote for advertisers to have such power? Why should advertisers have the ability to dictate what we can and cannot say?
@billybobthornton96688 сағат бұрын
@Ceno-2k *sentence Where did I say that I thought Tiss was shocked..? I'm merely commenting on the fact that a company operating in a capitalist system is entirely geared towards profit, so therefore makes it's decisions accordingly, i.e. avoid controversy, appeal to the broadest demographics possible. That's entirely unsurprising and has no bearing on the actual views being espoused, instead reflecting the commercial risk those views pose. It's not some conspiracy to stifle freedom of speech, which is often what these kinds of podcasts insinuate, rather, the suppression of those views is led by their commercial appeal rather than their veracity. Any view which risks turning off viewers or causing controversy which could negatively impact an advertiser is an unnecessary risk for a company like Sky Sports to take. That's not an endorsement or a criticism of how things work, merely an acknowledgement that this is how they work and that an employee courting controversy is unlikely to last long in that environment. Whether what they say is true or false is besides the point, it's the fact that their views represent a risk to profit which makes such employees unappealing. There's also a leap being made here that Tiss was sacked because of airing his opinions. Whilst that certainly contributed to his removal and made him a risky employee to keep on the books, there were other pundits like Charlie Nicholas and Phil Thompson who were let go around the same time and did not air the same kinds of opinions, so to focus on that particular point appears to me to be disingenuous when there was clearly a broader restructuring going on. Within that context it really does just appear that Sky Sports wanted to broaden their appeal by diversifying their presenters, which I have no problem with in principle but I do criticise the replacements in this instance because they simple aren't very good, which goes for Warnock and Dawson as much as any of the 'diverse' hires. Ultimately, if we're looking to sports companies for our morality or to be bastions of free speech then I'd suggest we might be misunderstanding their function in society 🤷
@3factsNG8 сағат бұрын

@billybobthornton96687 сағат бұрын
@@TheRatlord74 This has gotta be a joke right..? 😂 We don't vote for companies because they're private entities which the owners can run as they wish within the existing legal framework. The idea of voting for who runs companies or how they choose to conduct themselves sounds a lot like some kind of 21st century communism to me 😅 Employers can choose to terminate your employment if you affect the company's potential profits, meaning they're under no obligation to maintain your employment if you say things which are contradiction of your contract with them. Almost every company contract will have clauses related to public conduct which afford companies discretion to terminate employment over matters like this, so by signing that contract you are indeed allowing a company to take action in response to your speech. Your criticisms appear to me to be ones better directed at capitalism because these are byproducts of that economic system 🤷

I know this will make me unpopular but I've never understood the furore over all of this. For starters, Le Tiss wasn't even an "OG Pundit"... Sky Sports had the likes of Rodney Marsh and Frank McLintock as pundits back when Le Tiss was still playing. Secondly, the "diversity" thing has been blown beyond all proportion. Kris Boyd, Michael Dawson, Tim Sherwood, Mike Dean... are they not all "middle-aged white men"? Thirdly, his social media comments... I mean for starters I don't know how effectual they were seeing as SS also dispensed with Nicholas and Thompson and they didn't post the same things Tiss did. But most workplaces have social media related policies now. It's not something new.

I don´t really understand his point that if a man has never played in the "women´s" game he shouldn´t commentate on it and vice versa. Surely it is more about having "played the game". Football is football. If you understand the rules and have played the game then you can commentate on technical skill, ability, tactics and strategy. A man or woman is more than capable of calling out a poor performance, a bad pass, poor positioning, good positioning, a great volley into the top corner in "any" football match. Push back where needed on far-left ideologies, but not on incremental progress.
@Youafool5007 сағат бұрын
The quality and pressure is different, the women players have no idea what it’s like playing in the top league of the men’s game, it’s impossible, can they give an opinion, sure they can but that integrity of having experienced what they are describing is what is misleading, it’s really simple and not controversial
