the level of comfort these pros exhibit with skating in any stance - whether it be regular, switch, fakie or nollie - is literally insane. I’ll never know what it’s like to have that much balance and control
@treehouse60253 ай бұрын
There's so many ways you can work o your balance while being off the board that will make you better on the board. Slack line, jogging, sprinting, practicing spinning in the air, etc
@fadedidentity3 ай бұрын
@@treehouse6025definitely! great tips, and I’ll admit I’ve never actively worked to improve my balance and control aside from literally just riding my board. but as a 30 year old guy who’s been skating off and on for the last 20 years, I just know in my heart that I will never have that level of comfort to pop out switch and nollie tricks like it’s nothing lol
@treehouse60253 ай бұрын
@fadedidentity @fadedidentity Hey, I am 33, and I am better now than I ever was. Despite that, I only skate once a week and start up again after about an 8 year hiatus. I believe it's because I do sprints, I swim laps where I use only my legs going forward and backward, I use the steam room, I practice standing on basketballs sometimes, practice juggling soccer balls with my feet, I will hold onto a pull up bar while standing on one of those big yoga balls to get a core exercise and other weird things. I just do a little of each of those things throughout the week and slowly increase them. I only skate when my legs are rested and once a week, but when I do skate, I try to skate hard and try tons of new things. I don't focus too much on one thing and exhaust myself. I just constantly move on and have fun, and man, it's really made a difference for me. I can actually see myself becoming really good one day if I keep it up. How do you know what you are capable of or how good you could be if you don't work on those small things like balance, endurance, etc? Maybe you would surprise yourself. At least for me, I know that the way I learn things is by doing things in small doses with breaks. Like once a week. By the time it's time to skate again the next week, I am pumped to skate and cannot wait. I can feel the creative juices flowing. If I try to skate consecutive days, I can tell I'm not as good and don't progress as much. Anyways, I hope you will give yourself a shot to become better than you've ever been and challenge yourself anew. You can do hard things and great things. It's not just for others. Either way, at the end of the day, just having fun is the goal. I will do all kinds of stupid stuff like go onto my stomach from standing at speed and try to control the board and push with my hands. I'll manual and nose manual around a bunch and if I make a mistake trying a trick and the board does something else, I just go with the flow and try to make that trick instead and come back to the other one later. I ride switch around and just sometimes go fast around the park or do tic tacs. You would be amazed at how much better you could get just strengthening your core and other parts of your body as well as warming up before trying too hard. It can take me an hour to warm up sometimes, but when I do, I can feel a flow state. I guess what I'm saying is to just do all kinds of new movements with your body on and off the board that challenges you. Even just writing with your non dominant hand or kicking a ball with your weak foot to get more control. It all translates into skating I feel like! Oh and I don't do anything to crazy to hurt myself. When I started back up I couldn't even switch flip without my ankles hurting. Now it's no problem after a couple of months. My switch and nollie game is much better than before also because of those dumb things I do. Anyways, good luck bro. Surprise yourself!👍

Shabe O'Neill is hands-down one of the best to ever do it in terms of style and difficulty of tricks.. His pop, his catch, his landing, the insanely beautifully done switch tricks which to the untrained eye ALOT of skaters wouldn't even realize that the tricks were being done in switch. He has been one of my favorites for a long time now and he will for sure go down in history as one of the cleanest skaters to ever do the damn thing!
