Warne wasn't just the pride of "Australian cricket". He was the pride of world cricket (as was Lara for example). Warne was massively popular and hugely respected in India and Sri Lanka, and deep down even the English and South Africans, appreciating his talent for the game they played, were proud to know and play with him, and proud of him.

Dickie Bird said he would have been a fantastic Australian captain. I’ve seen him play twice at the Oval. 2005 was amazing.
