Warne didn't spin the ball as much as Stuart Macgill. The turn and bounce that Macgill achieved was absolutely ridiculous. He must be the biggest spinner of the ball to have ever lived. Warne however turned the ball more than anyone who wasn't Stuart Macgill, drifted the ball more than anyone (including Macgill, and I think this was because he released the ball from a higher position), was able to vary the angle of spin of his deliveries very precisely (he had at least two different leg breaks), was as accurate and consistent as the most accurate finger-spinners, had a number of different deliveries and highly effective variations (his flipper was almost unplayable), and was a tactical genius.

Indeed a very great tactic used by Warnie here. If you look closely, all the deliveries that precede the wicket delivery are all pitched either at or outside off-stump which assimilates the batsman to playing through the off side. And then comes the wicket ball drifting and pitching outside leg - a surprise - and turning just enough to get the tip of leg-stump.

Shane warne was a great and marvelous spin bowler in deed. Do not open chapter for his personal life. So many brilient personalities in the various field were different lapses, bad habits, indisciplined features in their lives but do not bring these in front of their excellence qualities. If he was not banned for few years he then could achive highest wicket taker in world of cricket and it was rather difficult to cross over.

Loved how Richie benaud said Warne doesn't turn the ball as much as McGill but he just has more variety. Always felt McGill was an amazing bowler it's just he was overshadowed by Warne and there was only place for one spinner in the team. When Warne was serving his ban McGill was Aussies premier spinner. And as Warne came back he was shown the doors again.

The bowl spins generally for two playes what i saw during 90s, one-Shane and another Murlidharan. The best way to deal with them was agressive if you are short heightened and if you are tall, defensive with front foot where balls drops. Sachin Tendulkar and Ravi Shastri both used in the same manner against spinners. I think Sachin has made 155 or 158 against australia with the same technique.

Good plan it may have been but it's also a case of Powell not having the skill of a batsmen to sweep him and expect the ball to spin back in. It's overpitched and probably unlikely to have got a batsmen looking to knock Warne off his length. Warne was still a great tactician and a huge player for Australia. Probably the best leg spinner ever in the game.

@@White742 Even I can say that india hadn't used their best XI as they were experimenting for WC 2019.... Dude its just an excuse... If you think aussies have an edge... Lets see how much that edge counts in the upcoming WC.

@@White742 that's exactly what i am trying to say.. Both teams were more or less using their WC squad... The difference was... Australians missed smith and warner while indians were experimenting their middle order.. pant and raydu were part of indian squad during the last series before the WC.. And now they aren't part of WC anymore.... That's why i can't see that aussies have an edge over india.
