I’m surprised you didn’t include nursing. Nursing is a very flexible career. There are many different paths a nurse can do. My mom is a nurse and she has worked medical surgical, rehab, nursing home, same day eye surgery, and she now works from home as a telenurse. Nursing also allows people to work as legal nurses, travel nurses, nurse practitioners, research nurses, and the possibilities are endless.

Agreed! Flexibility and stability are probably the best aspects of working as a nurse. One thing my instructors mentioned all of the time was: nursing is flexible, you don’t HAVE to work in a hospital if you don’t want to.

Im on my junior year of my Marketing Bachelors Degree and im currently working as a Social Media Marketing Manager for my university part time while doing school, just landed an internship with a B2B SaaS tech company local to my area. Absolutely love what I do. Highly recommend getting into Marketing if you are a creative and sociable person.

I know marketing and communications are similar, so what do you think about studying social media communications. I believe marketing is more sales/business and communications is studying the way people buy and think. Please any advice will be helpful?

@@theeemnm I'm doing a BS in Digital Audiences. It's essentially digital marketing, but they don't call it marketing because it's from the mass communication department in the university. They focus more on the people, growing audience, and the way they think instead of the business department. I think it is more important because you don't really need to take classes like finance, statistics, and general marketing to do digital marketing.

Can confirm the data analyst flexibility! Graduating w/ my degree in an unrelated field in two days, but that Data Analyst certification I got during the summer got me a remote job at my university that started at 10 hrs/week. A month in I got offered double my hours and now a full time offer from the team starting next year! Adding those skills and having that small chunk of 6 months of experience has allowed me to start being picky about my offers. 15/10 worth it, these skills combined with whatever knowledge you already have is a great way to stand out. Take it from a chronically ill person with ADHD, it's doable!

It is good that you realize that these conditions can affect you. Many people pretend that they will not, but if you are a tech worker, you will probably be affected by conditions affecting other tech workers, especially when conditions affect a large proportion, such as the conditions we are seeing now. I would suggest that those interested in tech get broad technical training. For example, if you get a computer science or software engineering degree accredited by ABET, you will be able to not only get a job as a software developer or web developer, but you will find that banks, engineering firms, financial firms, military, science/research labs, etc will be hiring as well. They all need people who are well-trained in mathematics, know how to think logically, and can build programs and software to do all sorts of things. If you get a tech degree that is more lightweight (less math, professors make the assignments too easy, etc), you will have good jobs during your life but will be affected by layoffs and things more easily and your options will not be as broad.

@@shahanaparveen2413 It depends on your goals. If for example you get a minor in business, you might be a little better at communicating with managers about the technology or understanding what their goals are in order to do your job better. If you want to do this, go ahead. Experience is king and you will pick up that business stuff anyway. If you find that the business courses are getting in the way of your tech classes, it may not be worth it. If you can manage both effectively, it might become an asset at some point. Specializing in a skill is a good thing because you can get very good at something and become reliable in that area. Specialization is also a curse since it limits your understanding of how things fit together. Try to find the balance.

Shane has a few videos talking about different majors and political science and communications tend to score low on the totem pole. The main issue with communications major especially is that it helps with many soft skills, but doesn't add many hard skills. If you are in college, but find a intern or a job somewhere that you can sit in a position that will bring about some hard skills, then either one of the majors would work, but most majors will work if you find the right job and right experience.

@@keithftw1175 you can't work everywhere with just connections. There are industries that require a degree minimum like tons of engineering,medical and other type of fields. But there are of course jobs where u would be able to get in with just connections but at that point why pick a shittier degree with less chance of getting a good job then getting a degree that isn't hard that has more work opportunities like something in business. Unless ur passionate about those degrees I guess but if u just do it "because it's easy" than it's kinda a waste.
