During the last chapter with Bill, Tarantino manages to make him genuinely likable without losing any of the desire to see her kill him. He's both a person who seems like someone you would enjoy shooting the shit with, and simultaneously someone who just needs to be shot. That's pretty impressive filmmaking.

I met Uma in Woodstock, NY. I told her how much I loved the Kill Bill movies. She thanked me and said that it was the toughest movie(s) she ever worked on. She was constants hurt and bruised (even with stunt woman Zoe' Bell doing the most dangerous scenes). A really nice woman. Even more beautiful in person. She is very tall.

A wish fulfillment and a piece of trivia. You wanted the Mythbusters to cover the coffin escape, they totally did! Kari, Grant, and Tory couldn’t replicate the breaking of the coffin lid from such a short punching distance, even with a superhuman punching robot, thus proving that Beatrix is beyond superhuman. Bill’s car, you can see it on the background while he’s trying to reason with Bud, is a rare Italian model made by the De Tomaso company. The car is called the Mangusta, Italian for mongoose… because mongooses can deal with snakes, which is what his assassin squad is named after.

I love that after the events of the massacre the deadly vipers lived their lives on one emotion. O Ren lived in greed grabbing all the power she could. Bud lived in guilt taking a lousy job and having a miserable existence that he thought he deserved. Vernetta lived in envy having a life like the one the bride wanted but in ways seemed better. Ellie lived in pride where she wanted to kill the bride with honor and killed Bud when she thought he killed her.

After knowing Beatrix's name, it does change how you view some scenes in later views. Like earlier in the film when Bill calls her Kiddo. He's not using a nickname like you'd assume but is actually saying her name. Also back in the first film you have the "Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids" line. It's O-Ren saying Beatrix's name but it keeps cutting to Beatrix adding the other lines to make you not realize it.

I believe the entire point of Bill playing that wooden flute was meant to be an homage to David Carradine's early acting career where he played a buddhist monk in the TV series 'Kung Fu'. That character always carried a flute with him everywhere he went. There was a Mythbusters episode about being buried alive, and the myth was busted since the weight of the dirt on top of the coffin was enough to crush it (probably why one of the reasons modern caskets are placed inside cement vaults before being covered over).

EDIT: After a correction I have done some research and found this is just urban legend. I can't find any interviews with Tarantino where he says this, and the character name is Rufus in Kill Bill, not Jules, so I believe I was given bad info and just flat didn't do enough corroboration. Apologies to all. ORIGINAL POST: Fun fact: Tarantino confirmed in an interview that Samuel L Jackson's character at the wedding rehearsal is Jules from Pulp Fiction after he walked away from killing. His wandering led him to be the piano player at the wedding chapel.

This definitely isn't true. Tarantino has said that Kill Bill is a film within the universe of the more "realistic" movies like Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, meaning Jules cannot be the piano player because he is a "real" person, and Kill Bill is just a movie.

fantastic reaction. I love that you read behind the scenes info afterwards! Really interesting stuff. Here are some other tidbits. "Bang Bang" the song sung at the beginning of Vol 1 is paid off by Beatrix getting "shot" by her "baby" cleverly named "B.B.". B.B. even SAYS "Bang Bang" before shooting Beatrix, echoing the song's line "Bang bang my baby shot me down." Also some theorize that Bill's last name is "Gun or Gunn", thus their daughter being named "B.B. Gunn", but im not sure if this is confirmed or not, and B.B.'s official name seems to be "B.B. Kiddo" Kiddo being another clever name, because it's what Bill constantly referred to her as in the first film. Also, her full name Beatrix Kiddo ties back to her fight with O-Ren, where O-Ren says "silly rabbit, TRIX are for KIDS" Tarantino loves his puns and call backs, thats for sure.

Tie-ins: In volume one, she kept the arms in the same way Pai Mei claimed hers. O-Ren Ishi said "Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids." Trix, as in Beatrix. She plucked an eye from the Crazy 88 member. Pai Mai was based on a real character who founded a fighting style called "White Eyebrow." Mythbusters did try to test this, but the box wasn't strong enough to hold up the weight of the dirt. I don't recall if they retried it.

We've seen swords being unsheathed, we've seen the sword's sheath being cut in two. The final fight with Bill is the only time we see a sword being resheathed causing Bill to be totally defenseless. He wanted to put his sword in her but she wasn't having it.

Credit to the magnificent, late actor Michael Parks. Playing two very different roles in Vol 2. Father figure Esteban Vihaio and Texas Ranger Earl McGraw. He also appeared as McGraw in Vol 1. He originally played the character of Texas Ranger Earl McGraw in Tarantino's 1996 film "From Dusk Til Dawn." He later played a different role in vol 3 of that franchise. He also played Texas Ranger McGraw in both segments of Grinhouse. Parks also appears in Django Unchained.

Seeing as you love movie trivia, the book you saw in the final chapter, The Carrucan’s of Kurrajong by Jasmine Yuen, is a reference to a member of the crew, Jasmine Yuen-Carrucan (Second Assistant Camera). He name is also referenced later in Django Unchained, where Django was sold from the Carrucan Plantation. I remember the first one came out when I was 14. Literally everyone I knew was going to see it, and I had that actual stereotypical teenage experience where I was trying to explain that to my mom, probably sounding like I was exaggerating. But I was a theater kid, and I was being completely honest. There was so much hype in the theater department of my high school, that LITERALLY ALL OF MY FRIENDS were going to see this movie. Even my older brother tried to convince her. He was a senior, so he knew the situation. I still didn't get to go! I had to sit miserably at home while everyone went to see the most hyped movie of the year without me. 😂 Volume 2 was released not even a year later though, and I'm fairly sure she let me go to that one even though I was still 14. I have clear memories of the part where she's being buried. The screen is black, and you just hear her panicked breathing, and the sound of dirt piling on with that perfect movie theater surround sound. It was UNBELIEVABLY TENSE in the theater. Watching it at home really doesn't compare.

The first Tarantino movie I ever saw, and still one of my favorites; David Carradine deserved a nomination for this. You might enjoy The 36th Chamber of Shaolin from 1978; one of the best Shaw Brothers films, it stars Gordon Liu (one of the actors in both parts of Kill Bill).

In the theatrical release, there was another set of credits, showing the list she had, and the names were crossed off on the screen... except for Daryl Hannah, which had a large ? over her name.

There is a lot of symbolism with snakes in the Kill Bill movies. The group is called the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. Beatrix>Black Mamba, Bill>Snake Charmer, Bud>Sidewinder, Elle>Californai Mountain Snake, O-Rin>Cottonmouth, and Vernita>Copperhead. Elle tries to kill Beatrix while she is in a coma because a Black Mamba is the 5th most venomous snake in the world. a California mountain snake wouldn't stand a chance in a fight against a Black Mamba. Bill calls off Elle because killing someone in their sleep is a cowardly move. Snakes prefer to kill their prey when it is alive and moving around.

I couldn't even begin with my favorite parts of this movie. Budd's very short summary of both them and Beatrix deserving to die for what they've all done. The way Bill describes telling Bebe about her mother ("... she's been dreaming of you"). Just the cloud of pain and love that hangs over everything between Bill and Beatrix. How she cries talking to him before he walks away to die This was a rough couple of movies to watch while going through a difficult break-up is what I'm saying

Regarding the shot that exits the church and then cranes up, the usual way to do this is have an operator with a steady cam start the shot and then walk onto a platform held by a crane that lifts them up for the second part of the shot.

Regarding the pacing, the crazy thing is how he moves the ploy so fast, but finds time to dwell on details like the snake. He picks things to focus and take his time on that no other director I know of would bother with.

This is going to be a long one so fair warning: Tarantino once said that he only wants to make 10 films and then he's done as in he'll retire. Kill Bill is technically one film in two volumes, True Romance and From Dusk Til Dawn were not directed by him, and Death Proof is considered an anthology piece for Grindhouse. So with that in mind from Reservoir Dogs to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood makes nine films meaning he's gearing up for his tenth and "final" film. He did mention in an interview when asked about a potential sequel to Kill Bill he imagined the story as Nikita (Vernita Green's daughter) growing up and tracking down Beatrix to take revenge for her mother's death. (Referencing her final line to Nikita in Volume One: "When you grow up and you still feel raw about it...I'll be waiting.") He also stated he wouldn't want to recast so he would wait until the actress Ambrosia Kelly turned 21 to undertake the project and of course it wouldn't be called Kill Bill but Kill Beatrix. Given Ambrosia is 26 now and there has been no information given that such a thing is even happening let alone being his tenth film. So it could've just been something to say at the time or since I'm not the original source-conjecture based on rumors and hearsay. Tl:dr- Quentin wants 10 films. Kill Beatrix would be a cool 10th film. He's done nine.

This is the version that's on the Blu-ray release. I have no idea why they used a version of the driving sequence with no credits over it - I think it might have been a mistake in the mastering process, they used the "clean" version by mistake.

as to your question on a study of getting out of being burried alive, mythbusters did one and yes its possible you just need to know what to do and not panic, the hardest part would be breaking the coffin open with such little room but once its broken the weight of the dirt will do the rest of work you just have to push as much of as possible down to your legs and then climb up as the falling dirt fills the coffin, its not in the movie but wrapping your head in your shirt is a good way to keep the dirt out of yours lungs

I did see Vol. 1 and 2 in the theatre. Pretty much the last time I was so excited for a film. The end of 1 had me dying for a resolution and I still remember the feeling of my heart practically pounding out of my chest at the excitement of sitting and seeing the opening of 2. Such great films with great memories. Love Tarantino.
