It can reference to both game and movies as sub zero a.k.a Bi han died serving shang tsung in mk9 by scorpion then died serving shang tsung in the movie by Liu kang. This is later referenced in mk9 from smoke saying "We will find shang tsung and he will tell us about Bi han" the movie reference is in the 2nd mk movie where sub zero 2 saves Liu kang and kitana from smoke and the outworld warriors. "You're alive? I killed you" "That was not me for that was not my brother you killed" shortly before an epic sub zero vs scorpion fight happens then the movie goes back to shit. Here's what NRS could of done with Mileena's mkx ending: Kronika could of gone back in time to before Mileena was executed by kotal and saved her. Then she goes back to mk9 and saves Shang Tsung from being killed by Shao Kahn. During the timequake, instead of past erron black, we get Sindel but this Sindel is from when she was the queen of Edenia and also king Jerrod comes back too via the timequake (he replaces Kollector). Jade still comes too. Shang Tsung then kidnaps Kitana to create the army of Mileenas to be used against the side of good. Sindel, Jerrod, Jade, Kotal and the rest of the good guys free Kitana from the flesh pits and also are able to sway Mileena to join the side of good. As a reward, Mileena gives Kitana a pair of sais from one of the various Mileenas that were killed in the fight between them and the good guys. The rest of the story would be the same
