But my theory is that Liu Kang basically said that only Shang Tsung can win against Kronika with the crown but knowing “Shang Tsung,” he would just take the opportunity more for himself once he obtains the power from the crown and beats Kronika. Liu Kang knew he’d betray everyone because that’s just Shang Tsung for you, but he needed him to get rid of Kronika first before he could intervene. He probably didn’t know the exact turn of events, but he knew (from the hourglass) that only Shang Tsung could beat Kronika with the crown, kinda makes no sense how gods can’t wield the crown but whatever.

There are certain people who have a possible chance against others that are very powerful (like Shinnok, Quan Chi, Raiden, Fujin, Shao Kahn, Sindel, etc) but based on how a character is portrayed for the majority of the series, it makes people think that one isn’t better than the other. For Example, Shao Kahn has been portrayed as a ruler, emperor and boss (and very powerful) for the entire series, so if I were to ask what would happen if Scorpion or Jade went against Shao Kahn, many people would automatically think that Shao Khan wins because for the majority of the series, he has been portrayed as a powerful character that a lot of people fear. I mention Jade because she’s an edenian and she descended from gods so she has a chance of winning. But many others would think her chances are low.

Fujin knew what he was doing… that’s why he gave the Krown to Shang Tsung, and stopped Nightwolf from trying to stop Shang Tsung from stealing his revenants soul. Liu told Fujin about the plan during the first part of the story mode that’s why the convo was kept a secret from Nightwolf, and Raiden cause they wouldn’t have agreed to it. Shang Tsung would’ve powered housed Sindel and Shao with the Krown on, even Kronika cause he knew how to wield his weapon, hence “ You let me win… knowing you would sacrifice your allies. “
