If I Never Knew You (Pocahontas Soundtrack)
LYRICS:
Jon Secada:
If I never knew you
If I never felt this love
I would have no inkling of
How precious life can be
And if I never held you
I would never have a clue
How at last I'd find in you
The missing part of me
In this world so full of fear
Full of rage and lies
I can see the truth so clear
In your eyes
So dry your eyes
And I'm so grateful to you
I'd have lived my whole life through
Lost forever
If I never knew you
Shanice:
If I never knew you
I'd be safe but half as real
Never knowing I could feel
A love so strong and true
I'm so grateful to you
I'd have lived my whole life through
Lost forever
If I never knew you
I thought our love would be so beautiful
Somehow we made the whole world bright
I never knew that fear and hate could be so strong
All they'd leave us were these whispers in the night
But still my heart is singing
We were right
If I never knew you
There's no moment I regret
If I never knew this love
I would have no inkling of
If our time has gone too fast I've lived at last
How precious life can be
I thought our love would be so beautiful
Somehow we'd make the whole world bright
I thought our love would be so beautiful
We'd turn the darkness into light
And still my heart is singing
We were right
We were right
And if I never knew you
I'd have lived my whole life through
Empty as the sky
Never knowing why
Lost forever
If I Never Knew You

There was a deleted scene of the characters singing it, and it was cut because it was seen by test-audiences as too depressing. You know it's rough when Disney, who made Bambi, Lion King, Snow White, Up, Pete's Dragon & Old f**king Yeller say, "We may have gone too far"...

The whole movie? Like the major plot point about 'digging for gold' in coastal Virginia? Are you sure that's underrated? or the terrible song during the climax? or the boring protagonist who falls for the first white dude she sees and then bases all of her decisions on him and his penis? The lame-ass fop villain? The magical leaves bridge the language gap (ie writers just went 'fuck it.') Two most boring mains in a disney film. The glossing over of Native genocide. Are you sure the "whole movie is underrated.?" I mean, it has some nice pastel-work, gouache-painted backgrounds and two good songs - but it's a pretty bad film in every other respect. Especially compared to the ones that preceded it.

This song is one of the most romantic songs ever.....especially if you've watched the movie,it gives so much depth and emotion because Pocahontas and John Smith loved each other and taught each other so much within that short time .....and even though they had to part their own ways, they parted with the fact that they at least got the chance to know each other and that itself was enough to last them a lifetime...:')

I know Bruno Mars is doing great, but like Moana that give more emotions and feeling a since one of the songs is based on a true story, which there aren't really good songs from movies with actual living and breathing humans in since it's Disney who are capturing their audience more. Moana, Frozen, and Tangled should actually be in the same category as Pocahontas, Mulan, and Anastasia for those heart-melting songs. And we need more movies that shows us that women doesn't need men to always come to their rescue: Moana, Mulan, Frozen, and Pocahontas. I can't decide to put Tangled in that category as well

The song "If I Never Knew You", heard over the ending credits, was cut after children in test audiences found it boring. Ironically, the adults in test audiences felt the song was too depressing. At the time, it was almost fully animated, with the exception of color. The unfinished sequence was shown in ABC's 1997 airing of this movie. For the 10th Anniversary DVD release, the animation was completed and the song inserted back into this movie, as well as a short reprise in the final scene. I never knew this was the reason it was cut. I heard it was because had the song stayed in the movie, “Savages” comes on 1-2 minutes later. It was like, “We’re not about to have 2 songs back to back.”

The walt family is dead. The magic was buried with them unfortunately. Power and money hungry people own disney now. If only it was controlled by someone who could capture the true essence and magic of Walt's work. Walt and his family were able to bring such depth of character, moving storylines, and powerful messages with each movie created. They produced classics that will never die because they gripped our hearts and captivated our souls. If only God would bless us with Walt again. He knew how to open up your heart and make you see how precious and wonderful life really is.
