Things change over time. Whatever personal problems she had on the show, I think it's nice that she doesn't take it out on the fans who appreciated her work on Charmed and is willing to talk about the positive parts of the experience. Some people can't let go of grudges and even though she and Alyssa may never speak again, she seems to moved beyond it. Plus they pay her to be there and 90210 syndication checks are fewer than they were 10 years ago.

They fired her over the phone, in another country where she was doing a movie,in the middle of the night..." she wanted to leave asap. There are a few interviews in print as well and vid that support this. Clearly as time went on holly and alyssa got closer as shannon wasn't there anymore. Also being a big raise for season 4 and later producer duties certainly helped. So Holly chilled and mellowed. Does that help?

I agree with all of that...I always felt a connection with Piper, and when she became the oldest/most responsible/most powerful sister, I thought...ok this makes sense. So, however Shannen's departure actually played out, the writers did the best thing possible with Holly, while making Alyssa's character the new "caught in the middle" sister, which also made sense.

Show would have been more interesting seeing her meet Paige would have been cool to see. Paige was alright I didn't dislike her she could never replace prue though I hated Shannon left but that was her choice! I think she should have stayed on the show even if she didn't like Alyssa. They could have been professional about it and continued acting together. But they couldn't stand each other I loved Shannon I heard she's hard to work with but they could have managed. My absolute favorite season was the second...the first season was trying to find its footing and the third got a little annoying for me with the Cole/Phoebe drama. But still, the seasons where Shannen was on were the best for me, and it's because of the dynamic of those 3 particular characters and actresses. I think because Paige's character was in essence the exact opposite of Prue (the baby of the family, naive, etc), it was a huge adjustment for the original fans because it was such a shift in the dynamic we were all used to and fell in love with...

I watch charmed, still. When I restart the series, I'm always "gosh the first 3 seasons are amazing, this " era" is my fav. Such passion" then by the 5th/6th season my opinion changes, "the dynamic between the 3 is telling and they all make the content enjoyable. This " era" is my fav!" But, the reality of it is all 8 seasons are awesome and all 4 actresses brought a dynamic to the show that has made it an icon. I refuse to watch the rebooted charmed. By now you could write a giant book about each pov and reasoning for doing what they did. When it comes to Shannens depature I hear about 5 different stories. I was 11 years old during season 3 and Charmed was my favorite show!! I only have 2 siblings, my 2 big sisters…so I’m the baby 😇 lol I love my sisters and I wanted US to be like the Charmed Ones so bad 😭 Prue’s funeral had me SOBBING okay. I mean literally just full of sorrow smh it was terrible when they killed her off because I honestly NEVER thought it would happen and also, the idea of losing a sister is just horrible and the actors were on point, it was really like mourning a loss. Yes exactly. Both Shannen and Alyssa admitted somewhere I think last year that they didn’t get along, they were young and it was stupid for what they did. And when Charmed was supposed to be coming back Shannen (when she actually was going through Cancer at the time or at the end) she, Holly and Alyssa all agreed to come back to Charmed but now apparently it going in a new direction and they don’t want to cast the Original Charmed Ones anymore!!!

It was still just 3 Seasons, she even directed some episodes, it needed time to adjust to the story which most people love from S1-S3, and she wanted to make the show go darker, which I think Constance/ or Brad didnt want. She wanted to control everything.

Actors depend on the NOW not the future, unless the network renews It for “another two seasons”, most shows in Hollywood are only picked up per season, so their agreement is based on the season. Completely agree with you. After the 4th season, Constance M. Burge also left the series for disagreements with the genius of Brad Kern who led the series to become a caricature of what it was. The personalities of the sisters became flat and they seemed more college companions than proper real sisters. Alyssa Milano got what she wanted, suck camera and her theme along with Cole's was burned to nothing during the 5th season. They didn't know how to lead the show after destroying the source. There was no worthy antagonist after that. And then shit like the magic school, mythology shaped childishly, the constant forced comedies... In short, the series lost all its magic, never better said.

Alyssa Milano was having an affair with Brian Krause who was a married man at the time and she is the reason his wife divorced him, Shannon never did anything like that and if she hated the show that much how come she ended up directing a few episodes! Plus she is an actress and the jobs are never safe for long, how many main characters of a series come back with a different face ie Fallon, first actress Pamela Sue Martin had enough of playing her for 4 seasons then changed into Emma Samms. Writers of shows have the control and if they want to write a character out they will. Alyssa Milano was jealous of the fact the Shannon and Holly were friends before the show ever came about plus she thought she should have been top billing even though Shannon was hired by Aaron Spelling himself and would not have done the show without her name bringing in the audience plus she was the one who got them to recast the role of Piper after the previous actress dropped out so before you have a go at her Holly would not have been on the show without her influence so ponder that little gem. Shannon and Alyssa have made up now since Shannon's breast cancer diagnosis and realised that life is too short for silly feuds.

I kinda feel as though Shannen was right. The character had run her course. She'd been such a presence throughout the first two seasons that by the third you could tell there weren't many places left for her to go. Phoebe and Piper had plenty of space to grow, but Prue's story felt well and truly finished, especially with the episode that ended up being her last. Prue's death allowed the show to shake things up, and Season 4 is honestly my favourite - with how it deals with loss and moving on, and Paige was very well introduced. It's one of the few times a show has had to swap out one lead for another, and had the replacement character be just as beloved.

The comments here roughly fall into two categories. Those which think the show improved after she left and those that disagree. My opinion is that it's a mix of both. The original three sisters definitely had more chemistry than the latter. However, Prue was too dominate in my opinion... Always being right and the best at everything. Gaining new powers first, outshining Phoebe in martial arts, always being right when it comes to judging character. I know it's a show about magic, but she was a bit unrealistic and kind of annoying because the directors didn't really allow Piper and Phoebe to shine. After Prue's death, Piper became much more prominent and the addition of Paige was okay. Her powers were better than Prue's in my opinion, but she was always kinda weird. It was clear that the directors didn't really know what to do with Phoebe. She became too self-centered and never really grew as a person. Her martial arts skills did not improve and she ended up losing her powers. So... She went from being too innocent to just lame. And then there were the props. The demons became more human in appearance. Warlocks were cut out and the introduction of magic school was a disaster. Creativity left the building. And the whole Chris and Wyatt having their powers in the past while the charmed ones didn't was annoying. So... The show had problems in all seasons.

Milano's character was definitely given more of the A plot upon her departure.. With the pregnant-evil queen storyline in season 4. She was at first the weakest Charmed One (with the C-plot storyline majority) with such a passive power the Piper's powers grew to vanquishing demons with a hand gesture, just in time for Prue to die in Battle against Shax & Phoebe was the alternative sister & "the witch who could fight" with the youngest being a half breed & had to train. Season 6 gave Milano's character "Empathy" & then she could use/deflect any other power she wanted to. Telekinesis, Energy balls, Witch or demons, she could now "channel" other powers at will. The budget then cut Phoebe's witchabilities no more harness-flying levitation, & only had a handful of premonitions for the remainder of the show. As scenes started using more special effects than physical visual effects. The show went on more 5 more years, Doherty's first 66 episodes had a certain..90s era vibe. Season 4 was a sorta transition into a digital-styled, less grunge...more prep?.. sorta early-2000s vibe with McGowan's addition to the cast. She´s not really telling the full Story....arccording to HMC her best friends at that time was shocked to find out that Shannen wasnt returning for Season 4....Alyssa confirmed that in other Interviews...I doubt Shannen cared to keep the Show fresh and thats why she was leaving thats ridiculous...it was indeed only about Shannen vs Alyssa the whole Season 3 so they let Shannen go COZ she was the one which was "harder to work with"....Shannen got fired and wants to keep her face thats why she is telling this story...She never wanted to quit the Show....I mean she attends those comic cons and even would have accepted a offer for a return in Season 8 but it never happend coz of budget cuts

BTW no this is false. she was fired it came down between her and Alyssa and we all know who they chose. after she even threatened to sue if they showed her scenes in future episodes that's why we never see her in flashbacks and time travel.

I know when people ask her about this, they really wish she would come right out and say something bad about Alyssa, but I actually believe her when she says she had gotten bored with the show. Compare Prue in season 3 to how she was in season 1. There were a lot more action scenes, there was a wrestling episode, an old west episode, there was the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon inspired fight that one time... I think she probably wanted to do things like that to make the experience more interesting for her. If she'd had to stay Buckland's girl for 3 years she probably would have died of boredom.

Well, and I'm not trying to start armagenden here, but I actually think the show got better when Shannon's character Prue was killed off. For one thing it allowed a lot of character growth for Piper and Pheobe, not to mention Paige was an amazing addition, and like she said it all worked out for everyone.

I agree with that especially how it made phoebe and piper stronger characters as it was said from the beginning phoebe and piper always had Prue their to look out for them to essentially "save" them and I don't think they would have become these two extremely strong and powerful women if they didn't have to eventually stand on their own two feet and I loved Paige she brought this cool young energy to the show

I disliked Phoebe as a character very much in the first 4 seasons, she was too immature. Like the episode where she has premonitions that her father is taking the Book of Shadows and doesn’t tell her sisters until several attacks occur. After Prue was killed it gave the other 2 sisters a chance to grow up and they each took the leader and responsible-one role. However, Paige was always immature in her dress, speech, storylines, etc and I never could like her. There was also definitely a need on Paige’s (Rose’s?) part to separate herself from her sisters in hair color, dress, decisions, etc which made it difficult to see them as the same kind of sister’s unit that the show grew out of. In a few early seasons with Paige there were episodes that Piper had to pick a sister and the dialogue was very forced in regards to Paige. I also think Prue’s evolution into a more bohemian type, when she switched jobs, was very forced on the part of the writers. Ultimately, I think it took the writers a number of seasons to get their groove for this show and then they lost it quickly with the magic school bit

Not trying to argue......but from what I've seen and heard Alyssa and Shannon are getting along.....and Paige did a great job at growing into the sisters circle and becoming charmed both prue and Paige I love as much as pheobe and piper Paige really brought charmed back and it was still great I still love prue happy to own some seasons on DVD and still relive my school days watching it if rather have the dvds then just watching it on Netflix......netflix doesn't have everything and always takes movies off......dvds are the way to go in my opinion and charmed looks much better played on blu ray :)

OK so here's the truth cause I'm tired of reading all this nonsense xD Shannen Wasn't fired. Milano was about to be because Shannen couldn't stand her and Holly not that much either. Shannen was the star of charmed so it was decided that Milano needed to leave. BUT! Because Shannen also started to feel bored on charmed she negociated with the producers so she can go. In fact her contract was supposed to end at the end of the season 5 and Milano's contract on S3. So you see that if Shannen didn't wanted to leave, phoebe would have died at the end of S3. SOOOO she's not lying here she's just sparing the details about the drama on set because she's not the bitch you think she is.

Holly Marie Combs had only gotten the show because of her friendship with Shannon so the show would have never made it to a season 8 because the producers did not want Holly as piper, Shannons influence with Aaron Spelling won him round and that is why she was cast as Piper so think on. Actresses like to challenge themselves and if you are doing the same repetitive thing over and over you get bored that is why alot of actors stay for a short time and move on. Charmed stayed on for far too long 6 seasons was enough but 8 made the show go downhill and repeat the same old rubbish, lost it's sparkle in season 4 and progressively got worse.
