EXACTLY!!! Jeff Porcaro... groove, grip, tuning, set-up, cymbal brand, similar set-up sizes, even the Hats and crashes sound the same. This guy's biggest influence is as bright as that red set he's playing.

Shannon is a superior drummer, but emulating Jeff and being able to create drum parts like Jeff did are two very different things. And nobody nails Rosanna for hi-hat feel, pocket, and ghost noting!

Definitely heard the Porcaro/Purdie reference in his drum groove. Awesome drummer, great feel and steady groove. Does anyone know what the song is from 2:00 onwards? I downloaded the whole concert from the Hudson Digital on Demand Library but they didn't have the song on it?

Only heard of this guy a few nights ago when I watched the Dukes Of September dvd. I was really impressed and obviously saw the influence of Porcaro. Now tonight I read that he is subbing for Carlock in Toto. I really think he would be perfect for Toto and would love him to be the permanent member. Interesting to add that Gavin Harrison was also asked to sub for Toto but had a King Crimson tour booked.

A great musician! He gives a certain strong reference to Jeff Porcaro's playing style. Even his stick technique and facial expression are as almost the same as that of Jeff Porcaro's. You'd almost think it's beginning to be a trade mark of his!

Yeah, thats definitely Porcaro, from the way he plays to the sound of his drum set. He played with Toto a couple years ago when the band was introduced into the Musicians Hall of Fame. They even got David Hungate back and it sounded wonderfully, really, it was the classic Toto sound. I don't know why they now chose Keith Carlock, totally different sound (great drummer, no question and of course they know what they're doing). I would've prefered if they got Shannon Forrest into the band full time. It would be so perfect with Hungate back and Lukather and Paich finally having a really good time with Toto again and Joseph Williams sounding so great. It could be magically, a modern Seventh One, bit more prog, bit more hard rock like FiB or KoD, it would be awesome. I hope the best for Shannon Forrest, he has so much talent. He just deserves to get a lot of recognition.

I really think Shannon is more suited for Toto than Keith Carlock, who is more for bands like King Crimson. Toto actually needs simpler playing with great fills and feel.

There’s no doubt that Shannon is a great drummer, although I favour Simon Phillips in Toto over him. A while back I read an article in modern drummer featuring Shannon, and he gave all sorts of praise to Jeff Porcaro, rightly so, there’s only one Jeff! There was not one word about Simon Phillips and after that I lost a lot of respect for him.

This music is absolutely awesome. Shannon has that nice jazz comping techinque which adds beautifully to the alt/prog style, as well as the New Orleans style. It's keeps the music moving, and more interesting!

He’s a great drummer no doubt, but I easily favour Simon Phillips on Toto. I read an article in Modern Drummer about Shannon and he praised Jeff to no end (there’s only one Jeff) but not one breath about Simon. I lost respect for him after that.

Bernard purdie was the first, then john bonham came up with a variation and then jeff porcaro combined both of the previous shuffles to create his own. Jeff actually explains all this in a video, it's on youtube.

Jr Mcneely it looks like he is playing a mix of Paiste Dark Energy crashes, Paiste Twenty ride, and possibly the crash over the hi hat is a Giant Beat cymbal. Not sure about the hats ... beautiful cymbals!
