Re: the pest in 1:53 I heard it's a Welsh Bed Snuggler. They're very cute which is their weapon, the biggest danger of having them is not getting any work done because of the boopmagnet and the fluffybutt. I don't have them in my place, but I have a positive invasion of Triangle Eared Shelf Climbers (I've seen four, but who knows, maybe there's more). you could probably get rid of yours but the alternatives are much worse, when there's no Snugglers or Climbers in the house it's easier to get the Glooms and the Pointless Boredom. So I think it's more about managing the current infestation! (Canelle

I have a trio of long eared chord/carpet munchers at home, they've gotten a bit lazy in their old age, but much like the Welsh Bed Snuggler their boopmagnets and fluffybutts are very good at distracting one work, as well as serving as a distraction from their crimes against chords and carpets. Enjoy your Welsh Bed Snuggler and Triangle Eared Shelf Climbers!

Hi Shannon, there’s a talented young woman in Nova Scotia with a furniture refinishing business called Transcend Furniture, who demonstrates her work on a KZbin channel of the same name. MY husband's a retired professional painter in LA and he says NEVER paint without a pole. The leverage makes it easier on one's hands and arms. And yes to the mop-- he likes a sponge mop and tsb. Nicely done Shannon! I feel your pain with the rug under the bed situation. We have a "hidden" storage bed that has zero clearance underneath it, and I did not want to pay $$$ for a full size rug that was going to be hidden (and make it difficult to access the stuff stored under the bed), so we got runner rugs and surrounded the bed with them. The look is the same, but the cost is a lot less.

FYI - DAP doesn’t have to be sanded. Once it’s dry you can just wipe over it with a damp cloth to smooth it down and then let it dry again before priming and painting. I only sand it when I need to get a crisp corner or knife edge on a piece of trim or something. Why deal with all that dust if you don’t have to! My continued best wishes to you (and Phil) as you continue this gargantuan project! ❤

I found an episode of Marketplace on KZbin that talks about air purifiers. Here's my tip: the most efficient way to clean your air is to make a DIY version using a box fan and a furnace filter. Tests showed the DIY version works better than a DYSON. I have made them for seniors who live in Hamilton (air quality issues). I have them in my home. I recommend for your place because of all the dust, dander, flakes of whatever, spores, etc. Once you see the furnace filter darken as the fan pulls crap out of the air, you will be sold. And SO much cheaper.

I think that is a bristle from a paint brush as I don't know anyone who paints with their dog 😂. I also think as you've gone to such trouble to make at least one room inhabitable, regardless of how long for, you may as well give the floor a lick of paint to complete the transformation.

@@sarahcartier3393 I appreciate the enthusiasm and investment you have in the room and the house! This week on our 100 year old Queenslander house Reno. We started knocking down walls in the living room. We bagged and boxed tonnes of rubbish under the house. Cleaned out a small room where we will turn into a study. Painted the walls in study and put brackets up for a desk and shelf above it. I committed defenestration by hoisting broken wall sheeting out the window. Found a rat or mouse house between the studs, and an ants nest. My right hand is swollen and I can’t even hold a mug of tea. #Reno such fun #tape measure, what’s that. I especially enjoyed watching the video this morning. You're doing such a great job explaining how a room can be transformed on a budget. Finding and blending like colors can give any room a cohesive look. I laughed when you said you'd be replacing the AC with a box fan. I'm a Hurricane Beryl victim and just got power back after 50 hours without AC in 95 degree temps with a heat index of 105. The difference between our neighbor to the north and Texas, cooler temps. I got up to the bed placement and lost power again. Got to call the power company to make sure they know it's off. It could be a cluster thing. See you later.

Your selection of green paint is lovely, quite soothing, and with the addition of the antiques, spot on! Back in 1992 I purchased a 1915 Craftsman Bungalow home in Central California and at the end of each workday, my renovation evenings (and weekends) were a joy to perform and created a lovely sympathetic restoration of the structure, architectural elements and a weather-wise shade garden. Good times for sure. Just like you, my antique home was my canvas. It will be a joy viewing how you handle each of your projects. p.s. don't mess with the bed loving vermin, she will come in handy as an emotional support animal when projects go south, hug her and whisper sweet nothings in her ears and her adorable face will shine and let you know that you can solve any problem that the house throws at you.

As someone who has dealt with a woobly old floorboard rugs, especially layered, can do a lot to help distribute weight and if it feels particularly unstable, a scrap of the thinnest luan, hardboard, or plywood you can find over the spot and under the rug can be barely noticeable and spreads the pressure substantially. I would guess that even non-corrugated heavy cardboard under would stabilize that weird joint enough to make it quieter and less springy.

Yes, thank you!! Not everyone commenting has the broader scale view in mind, regarding time constraints and budget limitations 🤣 Yes, it'd be great to fix the floors. Yes, they will be taken care of one day. No, I didn't have more money and several extra days to do anything proper about them in the moment 🤣

I really feel for you. My husband and I bought an 1869 house near Digby, Nova Scotia and I can relate to the cleaning. Our walls are covered with smoke from the wood/oil furnace. The rooms have been painted in dark colours which means priming before I paint over with a light colour. We have not had the challenges with wiring and plumbing that you have had, for which I am sooooo grateful.

I appreciate how real you are with every step of the way - the good, the bad, the bewildering (pizza 9 feet up? lol!), the human. Somehow losing the final reveal is super relatable. The whole process was wonderful to witness though and I love the way you integrated that pretty paint job into the final bit.

Could you get the "end of the roll" carpeting? We got a roughly 10 by 9 foot carpeting and used it as a rug for a play area for the kids. We got it for 35 or 40 dollars. It was cheaper than a room sized rug from a store. We didn't "lay" it, but just rolled it out and the kids played on it for years.😊 Just a thought...

This is my first time watching a video of yours and I'm quite happy I stumbled upon your channel!! We love a practical queen! I appreciate how you are aware of the ideal design choices for interior designers like for the rug and curtains - but in reality, it's not always gonna be the affordable and practicle choice. Bigger rugs and longer curtains can get expensive and thrifting as you do will have limited options. So there is no shame in compromising! It makes us, people who are always on a budget too but want to have a lovely home, relate strongly and feel better about our choices! Also, that tiny teacup you plugged in the socket, is it a light? It's absolutely adorable and I want one!

Never ending admiration for the courage here. My partner and I are in a long term project house ourselves, though ours is from the 1970s. It can feel so endless sometimes, can't it. As for podcasts... he's in the military so I'm used to spending long periods of time by myself. Lots of podcasts in my playlist. WhatsHerName discusses fascinating women history has largely either ignored or forgotten about, from all over the world. Uhm... Radiolab is always good. Every episode you learn a new thing. And I bet you'll like Check Your Thread. All about sewing in more sustainable ways. Hope you enjoy them!

Great improvement, the room is so cozy!! And as for podcasts, I would recommend Criminalia, which covers historical crimes. Each season has a theme, such as lady poisoners, art heists, or snake oil salesmen. Another interesting one is Cautionary Tales, which covers historical events with awful human error or fiascos. Sounds gloomy but its actually very interesting!

I listen to a lot of podcasts while sewing. I highly recommend the trio regularly put out by The Smithsonian - Sidedoor for general Smithsonian stories and artifacts, Portraits is the (US) National Portrait Gallery, and AirSpace is the Air & Space museum. When it comes to crafting, I've fallen in love with Haptic & Hue which is about the stories of textiles and textile industries by a weaver, Threads by Threads magazine, Dressed, and What You Missed in History Class.

Hi Shannon, we moved into an old house a few yrs. ago and the floors in the bedrooms were like yours and I could see some rotten places so I just painted them white and put throw rugs down and you know it was pretty and I liked it so much I'd like to have one again. I put lace curtains up and flowered bedspread. I would feel so clean and refreshed from that room. I see alot of similar things in your house. Cept we didn't have the mold. The house came free with the job so we couldn't do much but I got alot of compliments for the way it turned out. My daughter helped me and it was a neat time. Laurie from Idaho

I love your bedding goes so nicely. I know you are very busy but, that bed would be beautiful painted black or white. It's beautiful regardless. I think you did a great job. How nice for both of you to finally have a nice bedroom to relax. By the way, designers think it is very chic to layer with rugs. Your adorable doggie approved so it's all good. ❤❤❤😊

Shannon, the hole filler you are using is great for picture nail holes. May I suggest some hot mud? You purchase in a large bag dry and mix as much as you need (peanut butter consistency). The best thing is that it’s stronger and dries faster depending upon which hot mud you purchase (5 minute, 10 minute…). You sand wet or dry and it’s sturdy so can side knife it off as it hardens so you don’t have to sand so much. It was a game changer for me.

If you have purchased drapes that are not long enough , I have added an extra piece of extra fabric to go with drapes in a print or solid and it works great. Adds interest to the drapes. I release the side hems and bottom hem and then re hem to tie the drape all together.
