You are right- those of us that knew what the smocking pleater was, were VERY excited when you held it up. They are not just good for smocking- they are great when you want to do large-scale gathering, particularly when you need very small gathers! I (and others I know in the SCA) use then for gathered skirts and making neck ruffs. They are particularly good when you need the gathers or pleats really small or really accurate!

Shannon, you are such an inspiration! Years ago my Dad built me a folding screen with chicken wire in the open space so that I could hang items on it for holiday fairs. Forward many years, over 40!, and I have kept it because, well, my Dad made it just for me! Im now learning to weave and am also a seamstress doing alterations...always save what I cut off from hems and use them for mending etc. however I have quite a pile of 'fancy' hems cut offs from prom and wedding clothes...SO it dawned on me watching you that I could use them to weave a wonderful insert for the screen! The 'tip run' was always the best part of a big clean up, you never knew what you'd find to sneak out with. One time we found a WWII anti-aircraft spotlight cover, it was massively heavy and mum turned it into plant pot, after she mounted it onto an old rought iron wheelbarrow frame and painted the whole thing white. It became home to the most magnificent old fashioned Tea Rose and was placed in the centre of the front lawn as a garden ornament... one of mum's pride and joy pieces. She had such a green thumb, she could grow anything and everything. Me, I can kill asparagus fern and wild mint, but I was excellent at all the heavy stuff - digging, hauling, building green houses and lean-tos for all the stuff she grew... I was the labour, she was the pretty ☺️ 🙃🐨🇦🇺

Corgi! The two Corgis won third and fourth place in the Herding Dogs category at the National Dog Show (comes on after the Macy's Day Parade). It was awesome because there were a TON of dogs in that category and only two Corgis and both of them made it to the podium. I was bummed that they didn't actually show them coming up for their prizes.😒 I don't know why, but seeing Cannelle in the hardware store just makes me happy! (The one where she was riding on the wood trolly was my favorite.) Especially when you guys were lying on the floor. That was cute. It was so sweet that she got some treats at the dump AND the hardware store. I can't believe it's been a whole year, but then again, I've forgotten some things about the house already because you had so many things to do in the beginning. Getting the attic solidified will be interesting. I wonder how cold it will be up there in the winter - could you set up a portion of it to do different furniture renovation projects when it's too cold outside? I have no idea, as the house I grew up in didn't have an attic per se, they turned it into a 2nd floor with two bedrooms and a full bath with very slanty ceilings back in the 60s. Can't wait to see what you do next, not only with the house but if you'll be out and about performing for the Christmas season. Love seeing the glimpses of the shows. 😊

They are super strict at our dump (actually now a transfer station, where they crush everything and load it into huge trucks, to take to a distant dump site). Christa, quilt as you go. In this case it is the larger diamond template that fussy cuts the flower design. A shaped piece of batting in the middle, a backing piece that folds around onto the front. I ordered it from Missouri Star Quilt Company, they also have a tutorial. I have done squares the same way without a template. I started cutting batting for a hexagon quilt, but may set aside and work on the diamond. Although I have tried a couple qayg methods, this is my favorite. Hope it helps. The templates are for English Paper Piecing.

I can tell you, the relief you get when having a car hanging around your neck suddenly being picked up was the best feeling ever, I had to get new wing mirrors for my Toyota 2 years ago went to the local scrap yard to see if they had some 2nd ones first, while I was there I was telling the yard owner about the ford falcon wagon that was in running condition but I could not get in or out of due to my disability, she asked how much did I want for it, I knew it was worth $1000 but because I did not have it registered that was the stumbling block so I said $500 she said sold and I will throwing the new wing mirrors for free for the Toyota🙈🙀yep I took the deal as that took me to $1000 it was worth. They dropped off the new wings when picking up the falcon, I even gave them the matching body repair paint so when they went to sell it as either whole or in bits they could finish painting the one wing that had a strange acid burn. To wake-up the next day and look out into the yard and NOT see the car was such a relief more than I had even realised at the time.

Smocking pleater! Love mine and yes, you can get the needles online. Make sure you have the right model a manufacturer to order them.
@Paul-StudioKАй бұрын
25:36 -- The stud bays above the bedroom windows have smaller cavities than the typical "solid" wall bays without windows or doors. In the typical wall bays, there might be some insulation which has settled down to the second floor (if your house has platform framing) or perhaps all the way to the first floor (if your house is balloon framed without fire blocking between the studs). If there's any diagonal bracing let in to the studs, it could be holding up some insulation (temporarily) and keeping it from settling/falling down, as could pipes, conduits, wires, nails, and plaster keys. But plaster keys can break off and fall, pushing fluffy insulation down in the process. Water can cause insulation to settle and compact, too. After you "fill" all the stud bays you can from your attic, it will be interesting to see what your heat camera reveals. I'm fascinated by all of your house videos, but especially any with basement or attic scenes!
@TheEconWomanАй бұрын
Great smocking machine. Couldn’t find anyone saying this but it is super important that you use needles that are for your machine. AND try really hard to find original needles. Some machines are no longer made but some are still in business. These are more expensive but vital. Ask me how I know…..bad needles will cause skipped pleats. Great find and you are going to enjoy it!

I've never understood why public dumps do not permit scavenging. It's so good for the environment if things are repurposed and reused. Less in landfill and people can find things they need or can use for nothing. It's a win win situation in my book.

They're afraid of getting sued if you injure yourself (broken glass, etc), or get an infection from the bacteria/mold/etc at a dump. Not TOO far from us, there's a place called Last Chance Mercantile, where you can drop off stuff you think someone might be able to use, and where the dump workers can send items they see that are just too good to crush and dump. Also things like a half full can of paint.
