Not sure if you noticed yet, but one of those two shelves actually has a spot where you can mount a dowel through it and have a proper hanging rod to mimic a closet. No need for hooks!
@ladyflimflam

The second one with room for a dowel is a quilt rack.
@Lucinda_Jackson
@Lucinda_Jackson Ай бұрын
Yes, but it's not deep enough for hangers. But it could be cute and work with a wood closet rod inserted through and simple, screw on drapery finials on each end. Then she could use S-hooks to hang the clothes from it. F she can't find ones heavy and strong enough, she might be able to make some. Wooden hooks fashioned from a block of wood with a hole cut (using a hole saw and a drill) slightly larger than the curtain rod dowel so they slide on and then rounded on top and the bottom cut into a hook shape with a jigsaw. Out of an average board, several could be cut from the thickness. They would only need to be 1/2-3/4 inches wide. Lots of things could be hung this way. But the fastest, easiest way is to to simply ignore the hole on either side and add the board and pegs or hooks on that. I think that's the cutest anyway. And if the holes bother her, she can either cut a plug or just cover the holes in the inside and outside on both ends with small, flat decorative wood appliqués. They're inexpensive and she could find anything from a thin disk (or she cut these) to pretty ones that look like sunflower heads 🌻 or something similar. Earn hearts to stay with the theme. They're very thin.

It's deep enough for Simone Giertz's "coat hinger", or maybe even a little too deep. It's a foldable hanger she designed (and made a video on) because she didn't have the depth for a full hanger.

First, It looks like you could put a large dowel rod through the heart shelf that you could put hangers or some of those curtain rings that have clips on them. Then you could have as many ring clips as you want on there. Second, your dog footage is the best! I found myself giggly and laughing at your precious pup!

@@ShannonMakes You should put a call out for some professional masons to come and do a segment on your show --for free advertising--by putting in a new brick foundation around the house and rebuilding a new chimney (or 2?) for you. The foundation is a job for professionals with big toys. I saw on another channel, where they jacked the house up. Then they brought in their big boy "toys" in and totally cleaned out and rebuilt the foundation. Please tape it and interview the skilled craftsmen to educate us potential customers. I am enjoying this project. Very much. On the fireplaces, look at the stove inserts for fireplaces. Those stacks look dodgy.

Shannon & Phil, My Husband wants to thank you very, very much from the bottom of his heart! Watching you working away on the house has made me miss my DIY days... So I've decided to completely redesign our entire house AND learn carpentry to build all the shelving that we need, starting in the new year. My hubby is thrilled at the prospect (Obvious sarcasm is obvious right?! ) - I decided months back to redecorate & think I mentioned it in the comments here before, but after discovering Milanote (again, through Shannon Makes!) I've created boards for every space at home with a ton of inspiration, diagrams, colour swatches, shopping & to do lists et al. & shared access with my hubby. I'm planning on moving every room around, rethinking stoarage & even swapping the usage of a couple of rooms - Thankfully we only live in a terraced two up two down but for some reason my better half doesn't seem to share my unabashed enthusiasm! 😆

We had an old home built around 1897. We were not fortunate enough to have an attic, nor a basement. Just a cellar under half of the house. We found out that the cavity behind the plaster in the outside walls went straight up to the second floor. There was no insulation in the house, just some old newspapers on the walls. I love seeing all the surprising things you find while renovating. I am in NS too.

Oh I have a “country shelf” I bought in a big flea market in LA. I made my sister take it to her place (she drove & I flew) which I visited all the time. Even though it really isn’t the esthetic of my apt, I still love it and it’s handy!

I'm pretty sure those shelves go over window moldings. You can hang curtin rods through the holes and put knick knacks,books or anything else on the shelf. The are expensive if you have them made.

That's a cool genny! I live in a house with electric heating but I've got a wood fireplace and probably enough wood in the garage to keep the house from freezing for maybe a week, thankfully we've only had I think four power outages in the last 20 years... and as a bonus I could cook over the fire too, I've got an assortment of grill cages and skewers and a couple camp pots if it came to that (I can't have a bbq on my balcony due to fire code though I do keep a habachi and briquettes around just in case of emergency, I could go use those on my driveway). Congrats on getting the insulation complete, what a job that was!

@@ShannonMakes I was in an apartment with no way to cook food when the big summer blackout happened in the early 2000s, never again will I live somewhere I can't cook food with no electricity.

Congrats on the attic! Germany sounds like a wonderful place to spend Christmas. Our front hall closet is not a normal depth. We were able to get smaller hangers (not as wide) and hang a nice pole for them. So long ago I don't remember where we got the hangers, but shouldn't be too hard to find online.

We had our wood burning fireplace converted to natural gas because our furnace and hot water tank are natural gas. We have heated our home with that fireplace a few times and since it has a manual ignition no worry about the ignition not working because it has an electric ignition. If we had more power outages we would get a generator or solar generator.

Hey Shannon, just wanted to share something funny. I was laying on the bed watching your video while my husband was busy at our computer desk working on Affinity designer (a Christmas project for his dad), but the moment he heard you talking about the generator and the stats you were popping on screen...he literally jumped on the bed to see them😂. So, thank you for sharing...there is at least someone in the world who enjoyed it. Ps. He was very impressed with the generator. So happy your done with the roof! Good luck with your show🎉

Thank you for this comment!! I’m thrilled that at least one person enjoyed the statistics, and I really enjoyed the story! It does honestly seem to be a very useful and quality product from a reputable brand, and I am really happy to add it to my household!

The big shelf looks like you can put a rod under it and hang a nice quilt under it. Or a throw blanket.
you won't believe what we found behind this wall 👀
