Not sure if you noticed yet, but one of those two shelves actually has a spot where you can mount a dowel through it and have a proper hanging rod to mimic a closet. No need for hooks!
@ladyflimflamАй бұрын
The second one with room for a dowel is a quilt rack.
@Lucinda_JacksonАй бұрын
Yes, but it's not deep enough for hangers. But it could be cute and work with a wood closet rod inserted through and simple, screw on drapery finials on each end. Then she could use S-hooks to hang the clothes from it. F she can't find ones heavy and strong enough, she might be able to make some. Wooden hooks fashioned from a block of wood with a hole cut (using a hole saw and a drill) slightly larger than the curtain rod dowel so they slide on and then rounded on top and the bottom cut into a hook shape with a jigsaw. Out of an average board, several could be cut from the thickness. They would only need to be 1/2-3/4 inches wide. Lots of things could be hung this way. But the fastest, easiest way is to to simply ignore the hole on either side and add the board and pegs or hooks on that. I think that's the cutest anyway. And if the holes bother her, she can either cut a plug or just cover the holes in the inside and outside on both ends with small, flat decorative wood appliqués. They're inexpensive and she could find anything from a thin disk (or she cut these) to pretty ones that look like sunflower heads 🌻 or something similar. Earn hearts to stay with the theme. They're very thin.

Wasn't she holding the small one upside down?
@Lucinda_JacksonАй бұрын
@@poodlegirl55 No. The longer brackets are at the bottom to counterbalance the weight put into the shelf and to give stability by transferring the pressure from the weight onto the wall.
@NouriaDialloАй бұрын
It's deep enough for Simone Giertz's "coat hinger", or maybe even a little too deep. It's a foldable hanger she designed (and made a video on) because she didn't have the depth for a full hanger.

Shannon & Phil, My Husband wants to thank you very, very much from the bottom of his heart! Watching you working away on the house has made me miss my DIY days... So I've decided to completely redesign our entire house AND learn carpentry to build all the shelving that we need, starting in the new year. My hubby is thrilled at the prospect (Obvious sarcasm is obvious right?! ) - I decided months back to redecorate & think I mentioned it in the comments here before, but after discovering Milanote (again, through Shannon Makes!) I've created boards for every space at home with a ton of inspiration, diagrams, colour swatches, shopping & to do lists et al. & shared access with my hubby. I'm planning on moving every room around, rethinking stoarage & even swapping the usage of a couple of rooms - Thankfully we only live in a terraced two up two down but for some reason my better half doesn't seem to share my unabashed enthusiasm! 😆

We had an old home built around 1897. We were not fortunate enough to have an attic, nor a basement. Just a cellar under half of the house. We found out that the cavity behind the plaster in the outside walls went straight up to the second floor. There was no insulation in the house, just some old newspapers on the walls. I love seeing all the surprising things you find while renovating. I am in NS too.

We had our wood burning fireplace converted to natural gas because our furnace and hot water tank are natural gas. We have heated our home with that fireplace a few times and since it has a manual ignition no worry about the ignition not working because it has an electric ignition. If we had more power outages we would get a generator or solar generator.
