I had cataract surgery 2 days ago. There was no pain involved but my surgeon never spoke a word. I had so much fear which I believe would have been relieved if he would have spoken to me as you spoke to your patient. My next eye surgery in 2 weeks will be so much easier because I have seen this surgery and understand more and know what all of those sounds are. Thank you so much for making this video!

my cataract surgery was two days ago,my surgeon told me everything he was doing breaking up the lens, fluid now ,move eye to centre etc,.just felt pressure .i can now see and I am amazed what the surgery has done for me.. I can't even use my prescription glasses now as far to blurry, such a good video.I wish I had watched this before my surgery.

The doctor I saw before the surgeon explained the process using a plastic eye. When I met the surgeon, he started explaining, I said, "No offense; but, I can't hear that again!" He laughed and asked a few questions. His tech had handled everything else. At the 1st surgery, other than requests to his nurse, the only thing I heard him say was, "I'm finished, that was a bad one." Scared me to pieces. After the four hours, I removed the eye patch and everything was SCARY fine. ---- Four weeks later, after the second surgery, He says, "I'm finished, that was perfect." When I removed the eye patch everything was blurry. It cleared, though. Thank God.

I just wanted to say thank you for making this video. I'm a caregiver for developmentally disabled adults in Albany Oregon . I love my client's. One of my #5 clients is having a cataract surgery in a month and he's absolutely scared shitless!! To comfort him and show him the whole process of the procedure you made really was extremely helpful and put his mind at ease. He was absolutely mortified!!! After I showed him this surgery you recorded he is not INTIMIDATED anymore. None of my attempts to get him to relax was working until I showed him your video, now he's READY TO ROLL!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING, GOD BLESS YOU!!

@@kashmyrfayemangiliman6920 I had cataract surgery in Dec 2020. No it does not hurt. You will be sedated. I was terrified. I didn't need to be although if I'd watched this video first I would have been even more scared. You will not know what is happening during the procedure. I also have astigmatism and will still need to wear glasses once my eyes are healed. Not a big deal. I've worn glasses since I was in second grade. There are implant lenses that correct astigmatism, but my insurance would only cover the standard lens. They said the others are "cosmetic." Don't know what is cosmetic about being able to see well, but you can't fight insurance companies. I do strongly suggest you investigate the surgeon that is going to do the procedure. Make sure they don't have any black marks on their medical license. Anyway, good luck with your surgery from Omaha, NE.

@@12345678962499 not as such. I could see lights flashing, like when you press your eye and I had a slight sense of pressure as the doctor cut, removed the old lens and inserted the replacement. There was no pain, they put numbing drops into the eye several times before the operation. A very strange side effect of the operation is that when I blink between my left eye(with the new lens) and my right eye that has a cataract but isn't bad enough to be done, my left eyes sight is lovely clean, white and crisp and my right eyes sight is dull, cloudy and yellow. I so appreciate this video and thank you for doing it and sharing it on the internet. I am suppose to have surgery on both eyes in Feb and I am frightened about so many things that could happen. Your video gave me an "eye" opener into what to expect. I think my biggest fear now is not so much the surgery as the IOL moving out of place and or being misaligned during or after the procedure. In addition, I fear feeling the lens material in my eye afterward. I also have astigmatism so choosing lenses has me quite conflicted as each one is different from the other and huge cost differences. I know the Dr. will help with this but I am still nervous about it all. Your video was pretty much what I expected having assisted in surgery myself. Great job and thank you again! ( : P.S. I’ve never had surgery except for dental work. This cataract surgery scares me to death. Anyway I look at it or hear from others who have had it done I am fearful and reluctant, ambivalent with opposing feelings at same time. To do yet afraid like a cat, skittish and nervous. I don’t want to go blind. I was wondering if Dr Shannon Wong or other eye surgeons view these reviews and comment or even other people… from Suzanne H in Alameda California

Thank you Dr.! I’m a 54-year-old man I went to get eyeglasses updated I use them just on the computer. And they told me they could see just the beginnings of a cataract in one eye. Today my right eye has been feeling almost like there’s something in it not a speck not aggravating like that but more of a fullness feeling and if I cover my left die things are very cloudy and I can’t see well out of my right eye. This brought me to your video. I think I’m gonna have to go back to the eye doctor soon if I still feel the way I’m feeling now in the next few days. Thank you for doing this video. If you were in Phoenix I would come to you. My one worry is getting anything near my eyes I’m extremely reactive I try to put contacts in one time just sample ones and I tried for two hours and couldn’t get them and not even close. So I don’t know how in the world I could handle any surgery on my eye. I think I would have to be put to sleep. IV sedation

Great presentation. The machine sounds seem to be unnecessary electronic noise to likely cover up other noise from the process. Maybe for some patients but I'd think most folks would rather not hear it or at that loudness if required. Good job. I had one done by a local Dr. using a Toric lens and I'm very amazed with the outcome. Going in for round two in a month or so. Thanks for sharing the process during surgery.

The noise is feedback for the surgeon so he knows the position of the switch he is operating with his foot and the current mode of the machine. The volume can be adjusted.

Thank you so much for thoroughly explaining the process of cataract surgery. I do have small cataracts, so I expect to undergo the same thing but now with a little more understanding of the surgical process. 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽

Thank you for making and sharing this video. I know I have this coming in my future. I am terrified at the idea of something going wrong and I have anticipatory anxiety beyond the norm........horribly so. This has really helped to understand the whole procedure and makes it not quite so frightening. My husband had his eyes done back in 2001 and it was a hospital procedure and took a week with all types of drops and keeping the eye bandaged and so on. I am glad to see it looks so much more well handled no. I pray they have as good of Drs here as what I have seen you do with your expertise. Blessings

Thank you for this patient/doctor point of view video. Having cataract surgery myself this year, I am very nervous so trying to watch and learn on YT so I will not be so scared. Question: the little side holders of the new lens were still visible at the end of surgery, aren't they suppose to sit under the iris? Also, being a nurse and working the Cath lab for many years, I would have liked to see a better scrub without the watch. I do enjoy your informative videos. Thank you again.

Very good video showing the process and actual patient. Although I do not need surgery now, my parents have had it done and it looks like something one does not need to fear as the operation seems painless and helpful.

I'd like more clarification of the anatomy? What is what that he punctures into and peels away and vacuums away? What exactly is a cataract? And what causes them? Thank you! (Specialty surgeons are amazing! And modern heroes in my book!) 🙏
