For Beauty Blender it was even worse bc the brand responded to the backlash by saying that “Of our 32 blends, half the shades are formulated for a range of light olive to dark skin tones and include subtle nuances that make a world of difference on the skin. We truly want everyone to find their perfect match - so while the range goes very light, as well as very dark, we have THE MOST shades in, what we call, our 'medium-plus' range and this was made for Latinas and people of multicultural backgrounds because they have the hardest time finding the right shade to match their undertone”. So when people rightfully called out how this ignored Afro-Latines and varying undertones for deeper complexions too Beauty Blender took another step back.

30:45 yes this - I remember when NARS came out with their blushes everyone LOVED how pigmented they are, so it's interesting to see a shift where people are throwing a tantrum about that quality of being highly pigmented now because they're no longer the center of attention.

omg i COMPLETELY forgot about the vault palettes. that drama is what got me involved with the online beauty community 😂😂 also i had the subculture palette and i remember really loving the shimmers and there was like a mustard shade and a blue-ish shade that i really liked. after that they came out with the prism palette i think? i also really liked that one. but i’ve since decluttered a lot of my makeup (post-overconsumption clarity) so i can’t say if i’d still like them today.

Calling Rihanna dark skin is crazy. I feel like lately people from outside of the community have been redefining what "light skin", "dark skin" and "brown skin" means.

I bought a Jaclyn Hill lipstick, 1 only. And the news started coming out about the lipstick drama while mine wasn't arrived yet. After it arrived, I inspected it and put it aside for 3 days. When I inspected it again, it had 2 tiny filaments coming out of the lipstick tip. I took pictures, shared them and then returned the lipstick and got a refund, before the mass refunds. Never purchased anything from her again

I remember the Tarte debacle as if it were only yesterday. An influencer dropped shape tape and the brand itself in the bin, and I quote one, “ for the foreseeable future.” It was a big mess. Ergo, I’ve never bought a Tarte product and never will. The same goes for any brand with such an intentional lack of inclusivity.

30:54 interesting you said that. I saw another creator talked about those blushes saying they didn't like them because it was too pigmented. They didn't make a theatrics over it but when asked what popular sephota brand products they find overrated they mention rare beauty liquid blushes. 😂 but they also said it was better suited for more melanated people so..

I purchased one of the Jaclyn Hill pallets, the set of four, I think it was bling blitz. Had issues the formula, it was trash. Took it back to Ulta for them to try to tell me I was using it right that i needed to wet my brush and then later hearing that they were reformulating it and putting it back out. The was my last time purchasing anything Morphe x Jaclyn Hill
@aurellezanou506221 күн бұрын
For Jaclyn, it came out that Jaclyn hill cosmetics was owned by morphe so when for a declared bankruptcy, so did JH cosmetics which is why she told her audience aged was shutting it down. The company also was in debt to Jaclyn herself

I was just getting into make at the end of the Jaqueline, Becca, Marc Jacob’s, Kylie, KKW era. I did take advantage of all the close out sales they had with the exception of Kylie. They all had good products although I didn’t try everything .Jacqueline Hill had some good lip oils. Top tier. I really enjoy the couple of brushes I purchased from Marc Jacob’s. His mascara is top tier one of my favorites to this day. Luckily I bought like 5. I enjoyed Excalibur highlighter and blush formula. I also really enjoyed a foundation or two. I never tried anything from Kylie but I did pick my daughter up some lip oils, a candle and body care products. I really enjoyed some of KKW products. The lip liners and loose powder I still use to this day. Well the lip liners are used up unfortunately. I was a huge fan of her lip gloss or lip stick. Her eye shadow wasn’t bad. I decluttered what I had. I prefer her new brand eyeshadow though. I’m excited about a potential run of Marc Jacob’s beauty. There better be a bronzer for me. Lol. Tarte was my first high end make purchase before I j ew what ashy makeup was lol. They have really nice brushes though. I still have and use to this day.

So, I bought the big Morphe/Hill palette, but since I was new to the Beauty Community, I bought it years later, and I couldn’t understand why the old tutorials hyped it up so much! Like it was okay, but people spoke on it like Jesus shook His shoe at it. Just to find out that Morphe switched the formula so it wasn’t as good as it use to be, and they just never said anything about it

The crazy thing about that "no pigment foundation" is that Becca wasn't known for having bad shade ranges. Like the worst I can think of is that color correcting concealer, but other than that most of her products worked on darker skin, so to have a temper tantrum like that was really weird. As for why suddenly lighter people were joining in on the lashing of Tarte's shade range, it's because Fenty had just came out like 6 months prior making the very common problem black women have had for decades more prominent in the wider beauty community zeitgeist. So to be in a time where watching people finally being able to find a shade in store that's not at a Mac counter, to Tarte Shape Tape was quite a step back. It didn't help that is was a foundation range at that because this was well before other product ranges were brought into question like bronzer, contour, and concealer. Foundation had just made it's way into the conversation because before miss Robyn Fenty, a light skinned black woman at that, brought it up and campaigned her products on it, no one cared about shade range or gradients. They just went about their business because it wasn't their problem.

It’s like brands know who their target audience is but still drop the ball. It’s like brands purposely choose not include a certain demographic but wants them to buy their products😂. Didn’t Kylie cosmetics not cater to black people as well but as soon as FENTY came out, Kylie started to include deeper complexion or I am thinking of someone else?
@crystalnea1720 күн бұрын
Jaclyn Hill was never a brand owner, it came out that she was allowing Morphe to use her name on their products and just pretending she was an independent brand owner. Because she was deceiving the public, every time something went wrong with production she had to eat it. In reality, she probably had very little control of the what factories were even used to produce the product. Getting in bed with Morphe to that level definitely killed her credibility in the long run.

I kinda miss the Jaclyn hill drama days. That was a fun time in makeup. But one thing I noticed about that girl is that she has nine lives 😂 no matter how bad the last launch was when she made another launch they would still buy it. I wonder with the foundation shades, where they rage baiting us because they knew they would get publicity from their whack ranges? The black pigment from youthforia was just blasphemy. I’ve also noticed the tik tok rage is different, they just get mad about anything for views.

Talking about tirtir, i am usually the next neutral shade after whatever shade you use and i thought oh that will be perfecr for me then (cause to be honest i thought you coulda worked it 🫣). Then i got it, tried it. Too dark 😪. And it just wasn't right for me as i sweat a lot and i mean a lot and this would jist run down my face. I saw they have a matte one, nay try it in the extended shades cause ja, 51N Fudge was just too dark for me. I thinm we think as you're a beauty guru and your thing was always foundations, that it would be easy for you to fenesse and then i could copy your methods to finesse it for me 😅
