Its true that Shi Deyang collected a lot of routines from the local folk masters and he performs with good stances and clear movements, but his applications shows a poor understanding of actual fighting.
@b.d.shaolin Жыл бұрын
Never heard of that 🤔. But I trained under Shi Deru, who was close with Shi Deyang and the late Abbot Shi Suxi. According to my master, no one in his generation or lower at the temple knew how to fight. Whether it be real-world fighting or the romanticized Shaolin martial arts fighting. And that HE (Shi Deru) was the only one who knew anything about fighting because he was involved in street fights as a kid, and the only one to also branch out to Sanda. Best truth I got to this is he was the head coach for the USAWKF National Sanda Team from the 90s-2000s, and Cung Le’s & Pat Barry’s Sanda coach.

how do you respond to the chinese MMA fighter "Mad Dog" defeating many traditional martial arts masters? i was a pro MMA fighter who found kung fu and fell in love with it, but i don't really think it delivers on the promise of being the most formidable martial art anymore. has sport fighting now transcended the traditional martial arts? even the shaolin monk who started taking pro fights has been beaten quite badly (though he did display some incredible iron shirt techniques). i no longer think kung fu is nearly as effective as claimed. when you're trying to catch fists with your hands, and those fists shatter your extended defense and still land on target, how do you win? why does kung fu not have takedown defense? (sprawling techniques are never discussed) the strength and chi training of kung fu are surely incredible training methods, which i still use to this day, but memorizing obscure defensive postures that only really work in corner cases seems less advantageous.

mad dog! i'm a fan of his job! he's doing great in exposing fake so-called masters. i'm intending to upload some materials about his job. really though, most, if not all the techniques, tactics and bodybulding methods in other martial arts and MMA come form the major styles of kung fu, the hits, the kicks, the locks, the takedowns, and the blocks, dodges, parryings, .... but kung fu training has declined in the folks and people have no actual skills. like, say Yi Long, he has practiced some hardening bodybulding, good so far, but no power, no speed, etc. also on the technical side, he knows nothing of defensive guarding, he doesn't defend, his attacks are also the usual typical moves at best. he just has a fake claim, he hasn't been trained in real kung fu either, just like most other claimants, say like those fake masters who fight Xu Xiaodong.

@@ShaolinKungFuInstructional why thank you for such an in depth response, sifu. i'm glad to hear that you have such respect for other accomplished martial artists that don't share your love for kung fu. i recognize shaolin kung fu as the origin of all modern martial arts, i just wonder if the western method has now transcended the traditional method in terms of effectiveness. surely the knowledge of chi/strengthening technique/hard and soft body skills are important to maintain (as well as the meditation practice), but in terms of hand to hand combat only, have the western artists developed past the practitioners of the ancient ways? what sort of hybrid must i become in order to achieve a true marriage of both systems? i wish to have the body of kung fu master combined with the brutal effectiveness of the westernized method.
@ShaolinKungFuInstructional4 жыл бұрын
@@BobbyxZx i'm not an authority and i only know Shaolin kung fu. i don't have the jurisdiction to compare, but i think, on the fighting side, modern MMA is just stuck in single techniques, they don't know any tactics (just read this video's description below it to see what a strategy and its tactics do in a combat), and on the bodybulding side they don't have anything, they just rely on natural body, the bigger the better. you can't say a body trained in iron shirt is not super, or a hand capable of breaking a stone is not a true danger. all in all, it can't really be called Mixed Martial Arts, the better name for it would be Mixed Martial Techniques, like more modern evolution of western boxing. i believe. this name is much better descriptive of it, if you agree. Amituofo! _/\_
@ShaolinKungFuInstructional4 жыл бұрын
@@BobbyxZx of course, a bold difference is most, if not all, styles of kung fu, contain lots of useless materials. in this channel i've tried to right these wrong points; that's a big win for MMA. even Bruce Lee, a founder of MMA, was not immune to this kung fu disease!
@BobbyxZx4 жыл бұрын
@@ShaolinKungFuInstructional i wholeheartedly agree with most of your points, lol. we see it from a similar perspective. when i learned the difference between western strength training and it's effects compared to kung fu training, i immediately noticed kung fu makes you much, much stronger (i now have hidden strength :) i would like for the Mixed Martial Techniques crowd to truly learn of the internal techniques that make kung fu so great. i cannot go relive my childhood, so i will never know how far i could have gone with kung fu, but if i could marry my lifelong wrestling/bjj background with kung fu, internally, then i could view this life as a true success. thank you again for your time and discussion, i'm very glad to have found your channel. /|

Shaolin Kung Fu question is Shaolin Kung Fu good for self-defense and fighting just like Wing Chun is Because I've seen and then my research. Shaolin Kung Fu has been called King of fighting Arts grandfather of all martial arts granddaddy of hand-to-hand fighting
@ShaolinKungFuInstructional4 жыл бұрын
sure, but you rarely see people who practice it properly: bodybulding & fighting. of bodybulding, most only practice flexibility, and of fighting they only mimic forms whithout even knowing what it teahes. this is lame as martial art practice. bodybulding includes the 72 arts to improve power, speed, hardness, flexibility, etc., and for fighting you should techniques, the forms and their tactics, and spar in actual arenas. that's it, the correct, say REAL, kung fu. Amituofo! _/\_

@@ShaolinKungFuInstructional so the answer is yes Shaolin Kung Fu is good and effective for self-defense and fighting like Wing Chun is and you can learn it at any age and it's nighter easy or hard to learn
@ShaolinKungFuInstructional4 жыл бұрын
@@gerardocovarrubias1127 some things are easy, like the joint locks, they're easy to learn and much easier to apply in actual combat if you've learned properly. but takedowns are hard to learn and even harder to apply in actual combat. it depends. about Wing Chun, it's a small relatively modern made-up style which got it's name because of Bruce Lee. however, Lee and many others rightfully debunk it and many other such peasant styles of kung fu as being worth as self-defense. there are many such badly made up styles in kung fu made by people who never saw a fight in their lives. this is even worse in karate! these give traditional martial arts a bad name!

i somehow agree with you. the actual techniques actually work, but i'm puzzled why these people teach them so badly! there's a video on the joint locks in the Channel, instead of simply saying if they grabbed you you do this, he complicates it by saying you punch, he grabs your fist, then you do this! grappling is quite usual in combat, but why say it this way as who can grab a fast punching hand? he teaches the techniques, but teaches in a useless way. this monk is also another master of teaching the actual techniques in the most convoluted useless ways.

@@ShaolinKungFuInstructional Thanks for the upload. Always a pleasure to watch DeYang. This video also struck me as a bit odd. Some of these "applications" are hilarious. I wonder whether this was filmed under duress, DeYang doesn't seem his usual cheerful-but-serious self. He clearly understands this style and the martial applications contained within it, this comes across in his longer teaching videos. Maybe this was a rush job? An after thought? Maybe he's being directed by someone with an agenda? Who knows. Fun to speculate. Glad I'm not the only one left a bit puzzled by this one.
