I was going to reply, but once again, too busy falling out of my wheelchair laughing to type. And uh, Emily...HOW could you not get Matthew's Game of Death reference? "It is like a finger pointing its way to the moon; don't concentrate on the finger, or you will miss all that heavenly glory." --Bruce Lee, Enter the Dragon. I would say watch all of the BL movies, with the EXCEPTION of GoD. The film that was made and released had little-to-nothing to do with Lee's vision of the film, and more than half of it was shot with stand-ins and cardboard cut outs. Instead find the extant raw footage, it by itself is tantalizing enough for one to mourn over what we lost with his untimely death.
@Thundarr100
@Thundarr100 3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelpogue2032 I totally agree that Matthew and Emily should react to Bruce Lee's films . . . except for your opinion on them skipping Game of Death. I agree that because they completed the film posthumously with stand ins, clips from other movies, etc, that it wasn't as good as his other movies. Nor was the story anywhere near what was originally written. BUT, you have to remember that this was done in 1974. A computer with the memory function of your phone would likely take up all the space in your freaking HOUSE. They did not have the technology to digitally bring someone back from the dead the way they did with Peter Cushing in Rogue One (for example). They used what was available to them (existing footage, lookalikes, stunt doubles, creative wardrobe choices and camera angles, etc) and rewrote the script so that the physical differences between Bruce and his lookalikes would make narrative sense (saying that he would look different due to reconstructive surgery after being shot in the face). Was it perfect? Heck no! Would I like to see the movie as Bruce Lee originally intended? You bet your ass I would! But given the limitations of the time, I have to say that Game of Death is about as good as anyone could ever hope to do with what they had to work with.

The Evil Team GK definetely took the Inspiration from Muller, Germany GK in Captain Tsubasa. The obvious thing when he challenged Iron Foot to make shots on goal was also inspired from the Tsubasa manga where Muller give free shot to each Japan players like Tsubasa, Hyuga and Misaki to show off his GK skill. Not mentioning the FIRE effect on Evil Team shots were inspired by the Schneider character, German's Captain in Tsubasa, there is also the part in manga where Schneider's shot make Wakabayashi's hand (Japan GK) bleed. Yeah This is basically Captain Tsubasa live action with Stephen Chow style.

I actually saw this in 2001. One of the teens who worked at the pizza shop I managed found an online bootleg of it and burned a copy for all his friends to watch. The copy didn't even have subtitles and wasn't dubbed. So watching it was even more wild with no story dialog to give it actually have it make sense. It was as amazing then as it is now. Maybe consider Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons ( highest grossing Chinese-language film ever) or The Mermaid (2016 film). All I will say is half man half octopus. Both have larger budgets.

Love this film, not a huge martial arts fan, and lets be honest, this film has very little to do with real football, but its just so much fun that you can't help but love it. One martial arts film I did see and would recommend is Chocolate (2008), a Thai martial arts film with a female martial artist lead, which I think was quite unusual at the time. If I recall correctly the Thai film industry wasnt big on CGI/special effects, not sure if it was budget issues or lack of decent VFX studios, but either way it meant that most if not all of the stunts are actually real, so if you see a guy fall off a building then a guy really fell off a building to get the shot. I believe that quite a few people ended up in hosptial. An earlier film by the same team 'Ong Bak' (2003) was made in the same way. 'No Wires, No CGI Or Tricks Of Any Kind' is what the trailer for Ong Bak claims. Very good films though. (I believe neither is on the list at the moment.) I would also recommend Equilibrium (2002) with Christian Bale, not specifically a martial arts movie but definitely helped spread the idea of Gun-Fu. I believe it is already on the list, but worth a bump just in case.

If I’m not wrong, they invited Stephen Chow as a consultant to produce DragonBall Evolutions but in the end he said none of his recommendations were used. So their loss. I loved all scenes at Shaolin Soccer. It’s all yes to me too! Loved the part where the crippled guy got dressed up as a Shaolin grandmaster as the young chap tried selling him the dream, how a game of soccer turned out to be as dangerous as a war zone. Also parts that you didn’t show, like the “fake” Soccer moves during their first soccer match, the part during the news interview after he said they are dead he asked for the bun lady and whether she had eaten or not. So many good scenes lol. Oh and lastly if you want a period piece with Kungfu and Stephen Chow, there’s Forbidden City Cop or Justice My Foot.

It is Ip not I.P. Ip is a Cantonese pronunciation of Surname 葉. Sometime use Yip instead of Ip in Romanized characters.

Hilarious!! How have I not seen this before? I have a kung fu movie suggestion. It took me a long time to track it down because I swear my copy was titled "East vs West", but I found the movie on IMDB listed as "Heroes of the East" 1978. Straight-up kung fu movie, but I've always liked it.

Watch Stephen Chow’s King of Comedy. Stephen Chow is known for parodying so many genres such as kung fu movies, Hollywood movies, and cartoons. In King of Comedy, he parodies himself. The title references himself. The two ladies in Shaolin Soccer who play opposing soccer players with mustaches 14:51 actually have big roles in King of Comedy. And yes, the yellow suit Uma Thurman wore in the movie Kill Bill was inspired by the yellow suit that Bruce Lee wore.

I can tell that this movie was world-changing as an 8 year old sitting the theatres for this and Kung-Fu Hustle! My favorite bit still has to be when Golden Leg throws the can at Steel Leg which Steel kicks into the stratosphere and Golden Leg isn't impressed in the slightest! I get the biggest kick out of that! For some classic Kung Fu movies, I highly recommend a lot of Jackie Chan's work. Gorgeous, if you can find it, is probably my favorite all around film of his Hong Kong films, but maybe for starters, you should probably start with his major series of films like Drunken Master, Armour of God, Project A, or Police Story films. Fantastic action and good comedy too.

15:25 was that a bruce lee reference? :D p.s the eagle sounds and all the crap looks like someone added additional sounds to the movie, thats not in the original take, even the 70s 'kungfu fighting' at the end is NOT the original song, they removed the original shaolin soccer theme and put random crap in it

King of Comedy is a must. Again, the fine balance where the nonsensical premise of the movie didn't diminish the emotional aspect of the story.

For another comedy/action/spy type I would suggest not only "Undercover Blues" an older one - but also "The Heat" & "Spy" I think the last one was called with J Statham in it . . .

That goalkeeper is considered the best actor to reenact Bruce Lee in China. He played as Bruce Lee in Donnie Yan's movie IP Man 4

The black and yellow clothe is not for kill bill , that's a ref to game of death with bruce lee and his culte fight with kareem abdul jabar ( this is a good movie to react on ) , stephen chow is a big fan of bruce lee , the scene when the goalkeeper go out of the team and put glasses on his eyes is a ref to thebruce lee funeral . Tarantino in kill bill is a ref to bruce lee too......
