Jake Tai chi is a concept . Tai chi Ch'uan is an art encompassing that concept . Your entire life should be Tai Chi Ch'uan not just ten minutes of the day. If one practices many different things they only see the separations not the connections.

If you are talking about the one where he is stepping back and swimming (starting at 15:40) it is very similar to the movement "Step Back and Repulse the Monkey" from Yang style Tai Chi. I hope that helps. Stay safe and healthy.

what is the best style of TaiChi to practice? Is it Chen, Yang, Wu, Sun or another version like Cheng Man Ch'ing TaiChi form etc
@joosuakauppinen83658 жыл бұрын
yang
@Ancientneutrality5 жыл бұрын
Chen anyone who keeps up with tournament results and history knows that Chen is the most martial.
@AndrewPlitt4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on why you want to learn Tai Chi and which style will both help you achieve your goal and be a good match with your personal taste. Sun and Wu styles tend to have higher stances and are typically more focused on health promotion. It is not very common to find a teacher of those styles that will focus much attention of the martial applications, although they do exist. If you have trouble with flexibility, the higher stances of Sun and Wu styles can be a great fit, although both Yang and Chen can be practiced in higher stances with smaller frames. If you like lower stances and more martial arts focused training, Yang and Chen are good options. Chen style contains several points of rapid movements in the first long form and a second long form that is almost entirely rapid, power generating movements. The shorter forms of Chen style also contain these moments of "fajin" (explosive power) expression. Chen style is considered by many martial arts scholars to be the original style of Tai Chi. If you like experiencing the roots of an art, Chen style might be a great starting place for you, but it tends to be the most physically demanding of the major styles of Tai Chi. Yang style was created directly out of Chen style and if you learn the long forms of each it is fascinating to see the parallels and difference in the techniques contained in the forms. Yang is much more subtle in its power expression and typically does not show explosive movements in the forms, although there are some versions of the forms that do. If you want something that is more physically demanding and martial focused, Chen is probably the way to go. If you want martial focus that is typically a little less physically demanding, Yang is a good way to go. If you want less physical demand and more focus on relaxation and meditation, Wu or Sun styles would be a great way to go. Honestly though, the best style is the one you will stick with. So it is probably best to try several styles, or at least look up forms from each style, to see which one resonates with you then dive in. I hope that was helpful and I wish you all the best in your training.
