Her indifference hits harder when he just confessed again but still Niao Niao doesn't even look into his face and he is just there looking at her, feeling lost and so distant from her, he doesnt even know how talk to her or what to say to her... Heartbroken if you ask me. I loved that during the critical moment he talked to her freely without honorifics but when they were save he changed to the formal speech.

For me the meaning that hurt her was he said that he has been treating her as her wife after the oath with bite marks, cuz he abandoned her 2 days prior their marriage leading her to think (as I do) he broke that oath. And also he telling her that if she dies, he'll die, didn't Niao Niao say the same to him but he decided to die alone? Still her decisions are less important than him and hi's controlling that so.. And one last thing this is their first conversation after 5 years separation so the feelings are overwhelming.

She is so incredibly stubborn to the point she had to nearly lose him to realize how much she loves and needs him in her life. I get that she has abandonment issues and he played on that rather than simply talk to him when he chose to kill his uncle Ling. He spent his five years fighting to die and living with the regrets he had from his choice and tells her that when they are all trapped in a burning bunker. She on the other hand spent 5 years stewing in her resentment and hate for his abandonment. Along with willfully ignoring anyone who points out her behavior isn’t healthy. It irate me that she never answers him in that moment and I think it’s more because it’s such a huge moment for them

I will do the same thing if I was her like he left her for 5 years and there is no guarantee that he will never left her again if she accept him. I will protect my heart at all cost even if that mean I'm being stubborn cause I might go crazy or don't know what will happen to myself if he do left me after I gave him another chance.

I watched the whole drama and I still don’t get it why she was so angry and mad about him that she would not forgive him 😢. He did it for good reason. Took her 5 years and he saving her many times to realise he did not betray her on purpose, it’s complicated . She was punishing both of them ❤

I could understand her anger. She truly wanted to be his comrade-in-arms, and not be abandoned - even for good reason. He abandoned her twice: the first time, when he went alone to kill his "father", the second time, when he jumped over the cliff. The oath they made was: you die, I die. She was prepared to die with him - that was their pact. But he reneged on both.

They both were hurt deeply from each others actions. Ling was able to heal i believe after he got revenge. Niao naio wasnt able to. She was dealt with the “betrayal” of her lover not telling her anything. Ling was angry when she didnt tell him about the snake incident. He expected communication and to be open to each other but he didnt practice the same for himself during the time he wanted revenge. He left her hanging and not knowing anything that was happening Plus keep in mind the age difference was big between them and the situations they had both encountered at that time was limited. They both experienced different struggles. niao niao was 16 and buyi was 21. Buyi was a general so he had already seen a lot and was very much aware of things plus he grew up in the palace and etc. Niao niao was still very young and hadn’t experienced a lot. Now that i think about i dont think either of them knew that there was consequences after doing certain actions.Theres always a cause and effect for things. Once niao niao actually opened up to him and trusted him was when it got serious and it just happened that it happened while he was trying to get revenge. They both were hurting after the whole “break up”. They both had to deal with it by themselves. Naio naios mother was trash she only had the empress who treated her well. Ling was stationed somewhere as well with nobody but military. Plus niao niao is still in her feelings the empress died and that was her only motherly figure she had in her life. She was upset for a whole. It took weeks for her to recover and process everything. Probably didnt help she also had to process the emotions of ling coming back after 5 years

(Edited as i wrote this, as I accidentally sent it before it was done.) I think there were a number of reasons she couldn't forgive him. She gave him a good list of their issues in the scene just before she asked to break their engagement. He wanted her to tell him her secrets, but he wasn't willing to share his own. He wanted her to trust him, but he wasn't willing to trust her. Etc. The things he wanted from her, he was not willing to reciprocate. But I think her bottom line was... do not abandon me. She had been abandoned several times and in several ways by her family, and that was the one thing she just couldn't take again. She was willing to support him in anything, even in actions resulting in her own death, so long as they were in it together. But he went to die without her, TWICE. (These were DELIBERATE decisions on his part, deliberate betrayals. Done for a 'good' reason, but still betrayals.) He broke her trust. It doesn't matter how trust is broken; by cheating, gambling, or abandonment... lying is lying. Once you lose trust in someone, it's very very difficult to get it back. Once you can't trust them, the relationship is effectively over. It doesn't matter if you still love them; at that point, most people are no longer willing to risk being hurt by the other individual. You don't / can't trust them to not stomp on your heart.

I think Zhao Lu Si did a good job acting in the scene. I think the character fully expected to die during the fight for the knife in a moving carriage which safety wise would limit what they could do with the knife. I don’t think that she expected General Ling to come save her especially since she still doesn’t trust him and everything the woman was saying didn’t help her along with the fact that she hates him as much as she loves him. It’s not one of my favorite scenes in the show.
