@anthonywomack87406 жыл бұрын
mikel runnels where at in Kansas are you from? I’m lucky, in my area we are almost 100% covered by hydrants. Only when we leave the city do we have to work off tenders

Raise property taxes and with the money have a water pumping station and associated water mains installed and also establish a professional Fire Department, it's known as preventive measures for future unforeseen times of need.

... also for "RED FLAG" days in the area, deluge sprinkler heads can be installed (with sensors) on the roof and around the exterior of the structure. Swimming pools are there, ... use the water smartly already!
@firered300139 жыл бұрын
With a house that size and no water system and fire hydrants; a home sprinkler system would be a good idea. The insurance premium reduction would probably pay for it in a few years. I bet there was a lawn sprinkler system.
@JohnSmith-sd4yu8 жыл бұрын
+Piper Red My sentiments exactly!!
@CyanoticFuture8 жыл бұрын
I bet home sprinklers would not have helped prvent this fire. The intro states that the origin was from outside the structure, caused by burning leaves.so you have an exterior fire spreading rapidly from outside in, rendering the interior sprinkler system overwhelemed, damaged, and useless. Nonetheless, a sprinkler for a home this size in an area with no hydrants is still an intelligent idea.
@brucekulickfan42067 жыл бұрын
CyanoticFuture the intelligent idea is insurance companies denying coverage unless there's active hydrants in the area. No matter how far you live in the sticks. I'm sure the homeowners association for this neighborhood and it's residents could chip in and have a water line and hydrants installed. What a waist.

Did they have insurance? 2 1/2 years later, the house is still in ruins.

Piper Red A house sprinkling system would not have worked in this case because he was raking and burning leaves outside when it was windy what he should not have been doing.
@dougw34367 жыл бұрын
All, ... look closely at the rear of the structure. ... there is a swimming pool full of H2O. The homeowner could have piped the pool water to fire sprinklers that WILL hold fire to the point of origin, until a COMPETENT department shows up (with some balls) and GOES IN AND CONFRONTS IT! (anyone can surround and drown and burn it to the ground) Real departments like Chicago, New York etc., actually go in and fight for the structure and owner!

This isnt the first fire like this in the area. Why are they not putting in hydrants? Those are some pretty high end homes to not have better fire protection
@littleblitz82399 жыл бұрын
Jason Van Order I agree, they have water in the homes so why not put hydrants in the area? Makes no sense to me either.

Because they have well water im sure...Putting in hydrants is not cheap to remote areas.

rtazz17 I can't believe Barrington road doesn't have any water mains running along it. I certainly wouldn't live in a subdivision with no hydrants.
@tosh3698 жыл бұрын
+Patrick B To put in hydrants implies that there is city water service for supply. Most of these homes have their own well for water and a septic field for wastewater. No city services, no hydrants. Some other areas actually have permanent ponds from which hydrants are connected to provide water in case of fire. This is why with homes with acreage such as this you usually find a pool or pond.
@littleblitz82398 жыл бұрын
Tosh_369 I understand that but their should be some type of water main on the main highway. I know this area as I grew up around here. If there are ponds in the area, put in a dry hydrant. All said YOU are correct sir.

I'm not buying the wind driven burning leaves story. 1 it doesn't look that windy in this video and 2 the fire looks like it's all on the top floor and it's burning from the inside out.

Most of South Barrington has no hydrant service whatsoever...They usually have to bring water trucks as seen at the beginning of the clip...When fire gets a foothold in one of these structures, the damage is usually extensive...

So much equipment, so many fire apparatus, so many volunteers, so much transported water, so many Chief Officers, so many handlines, so much water discharged from the water tower and still the once beautiful mansion became a total loss. Does no one living and/or owning property within the jurisdiction ask both themselves and the county government the question, "WHY"

Thats just ignorant,The insurance company is aware that there are no hydrants when the house is insured.This isnt uncommon..most areas with well water dont have city hydrants.If they have hydrants they are dry and used for drafting from.

Hey all, I am a expert in the Fire Service, If rapid rise heat sincers, along with smoke detectors on a modern day alarm system that also has video cameras monitoring the home. Rapid rise Detective go off almost immediately when the temperature changes, the alarm company and monitor the cameras and look for changes in side the home. Alert the fire department that they obviously have smoke inside. My department would have a pre-fire plan for homes such as that with available water sources where you position aerial apparatus, and would Mutual Aid departments would you call for each alarm. With that in mind several alarms should have been struck as you were in route to the scene. Highly-skilled paid professional firefighters would go in that front door and find the seat of the fire from the inside and put the fire out to the best of their ability. This video appears to show that that was not done sufficiently, therefore it was made a defensive mood fire which basically means surround and drown. One thing you have to know about a swimming pool, if you drain all the water really fast the swimming pool will pop out the ground and become useless for all. The truth be known whoever owns a home of such quality has no problem paying the insurance premiums and he will be made whole by the insurance company. I want to come in everyone involved in trying to put a stop could this conflagration. Never stop training, this is the most essential part of a professional firefighters job . Stay trained, stay fit, be safe and watch out for your brother.

that far out - if i had owned that home, i would have installed a water tower containment tank. i live in the desert and there are many here around where i live cause there are no hydrants.
@ctitown44886 жыл бұрын
Being in this type of area without hydrants is bad, why when a call comes in for houses offices in this area aren't the water takers dispatched and the water containers set in place at the beginning. It should be mandatory. Not have the water takers show up 30-45 mins later. Shame.

How do they get away with building these estates without hydrants?? Can imagine planning consent being given here without this basic necessity.
@PoppaBlue599 жыл бұрын
pauld201 I'll go you one better...the municipality I am getting ready to retire from allowed(against our best arguments) a huge subdivision of $300,000+ two and a half story houses to be built on streets that we can't get an engine down if one car is parked on the road. We can't get either of our ladders down there at all, and the houses are on zero-lot-lines. I hope I am looong gone we that little fire storm breaks loose on one of our 105 degree, windy Texas summer days. It will be one big party!
@JasmineLindros9 жыл бұрын
+pauld201 Hydrants are useless without a big-ass water tank to supply them, and pumps to maintain adequate pressure in relatively flat areas, and power stations to supply the pumps with electricity, and a huge outside source of water to fill the tank in the first place and KEEP it filled. The expense of supplying hydrants with water is not limited to just the expense of installing hydrants and their supply lines.
