Cheating seems to be endemic in the NBA, whereas a lot of NFL guys seem to be happily married to their high school or college sweethearts. Shaq didn't "lose" his family. He has six grown kids. What he DID do was throw away his marriage by constantly cheating on his wife. He's even said that he didn't think he cheated "disrespectfully" (?) and that he doesn't believe in being honest/confiding in women because "they hold it against you". Meaning that his wife didn't appreciate the infidelity and it upset her. Some NBA players seem to have healthy relationships with women (LeBron, Kobe (RIP)), but they seem to be in the minority.

It's interesting that they talk about flat lining and Shaq likes Dj'ing. There's an interesting connection. I used to DJ back in the day, and I followed a style influenced by the great Frankie Crocker. Crocker stated to make a party great, you don't want the excitement level to flatline, regardless of whether it's high or low. It becomes boring. For instance, you get the party started with a good record, then you hit them with a smash. The people will rush the dance floor, and that rush makes a party great. He said, you may put on two or three more bangers then you either put on something new or a slow song. This drops the excitement level, allows people a chance to talk, rest, eat. whatever. Then you hit em again with a smash resulting in a another rush to the dance floor. This not only makes the party memorable, but you aren't "shooting your wad" by playing all your good stuff early and left with running out of songs or repeating songs too many times. This method made me a very successful DJ without having to use the mike at all, and it paid my way through college.

When sports is your entire life for 15-20 years, it's ALL about the sport. Then one day, it just goes away. I would love to see the depression rates of athletes upon retirement because it's almost like they lose their identity and have to find a new "normal". Now Shaq....you got all that land and aren't doing nothing with it? There are some food deserts down on the Southside that could really benefit from agricultural growth.
