Shar is the ultimate big bad of the Forgotten Realms. Not even her own followers know just how dark her true goals are. She seeks the end of all things. She seduces people to follow her with promises of power but ultimately she leads them to their own destruction as a means to an end. A means to THE END.

As a reader of the novels, I feel like one of the few people who aren’t confused. The spellplague still happened, it was the common plot shared between all novels written from the Empyrean Odyssey to The Herald. And this time frame was filled with a series of Shar’s plot. Like her going Galactus on Toril. The novels are all interconnected, that’s why Forgotten Realms gets the highlight.

SpellPlague happened, Second Sundering is a semi-hard reset... ShadowWeave is still a thing, Shar in her “#@$% you, Mystra!”-plan merged the Plane of Shadow, the Ethereal Plane, and the Fugue Plane into the ShadowFell as a whole... conflicting opinions on who exactly has dominion over it... it’s either Shar, Raven Queen, Kelemvor, and sometimes Orcus or Vecna make a claim at it; but it’s really like each of them have a claim to a certain aspect of it... even though it’s all the same thing.... and the only undisputed contender is the Dark Powers of The Demi-Plane of Dread because nobody knows Jack-$#€+ about them (but, if you really think about it, all they got is a demi-plane, so...?).

13:17 it would be really cool if you did a video on the general lore of 4e. I was 2e and BECMI, and I never knew that 4e lore was so good. It would be interesting to hear why it's good and what the differences are from the earlier editions. ty guys great vids!

My current homebrew campaign (due to PC deity choice) is based around Dumathoin (who i'm combining with Erebos as a double-aspect God, and husband to Nyx), Vhaeraun, and Nyx (who I'm using as an Elder Primordial Goddess, effectively taking over Shar's Domain in my world), with Larloch and Rhaugilath involved (with Larloch's respect for Mystra replaced by Nyx), and way out in the future as a looming threat, Mauzkyl Jaezred (the gargantuan Shadow Dragon). There is a "lost" Pool of Radiance/Mythallar underneath the main city that Larloch and Mauzzkyl Jaezred will be racing to control (modified 'Defiance in Phlan/Dues for the Dead' adventure hooks).

AO ( the Alpha and Omega) Time of Troubles..... Caused when Bane, Myrkul and Bhaal stole the Tablets of Fate, which list all the Gods and their potfolios and duties. AO punished the Gods by sending them to Toril to remind them that their worshipers are what gives them their power. Happened approx 1 century ago in Realms time, iirc.

How the The time of Troubles started(at I believe the beginning of 2nd edition) is that The Dead Three(Bane, Myrkul, and Bhaal) stole the tablets of fate and then Io got annoyed at the gods and made them all mortal(except Bahumat, Tiamat, Asmodeus and Helm) and told them to bring back the Tablets of Fate, that eventually happened bring back the status quo (and thats when 3rd Mystra was made)

The Time of troubles was used as a plot device for the conversion from AD&D to second edition in 1987. It was clumsy and badly written, but it is what it is. Bane, Myrkul and Bhaal stole the tablets of fate, so Ao cast all the gods to Toril as powerful mortal beings. Mystra tried to tell on them so Helm killed her.

Shar might seek to create an umbral blot so large that it can annihilate all of reality. So if you want a high stake campaign to save the world, stopping that plot would be an epic quest.

I've been busy investigating a series of crimes that have been occurring within city walls. It is most perplexing I must admit. A series of homicides have been committed that city leadership refuses to acknowledge in the public eye, and the city guard has been ordered not to investigate. Something isn't right here. It is good I am not officially a member of the city guard, therefore I'm not breaking any laws by looking into the matter. My paladin senses are tingling, I sense a darkness... no, a corruption lurking within our city of knowledge and laughter.i wonder, could this indeed be the work of shar, or perhaps some other malevolent force? I have not been able to rest easy for a few nights now. I have to solve this mystery. I must find the perpetrators of these horrific murders. If they will not leave the dark on their own, then by my will I shall drag them into the light! I have vowed to safeguard these lands with my very life from any foe, no matter how powerful, or how daunting. Until next time milords, you ever vigilant soldier, paladin Dorian. Ah, I love a good deities and demi gods episode, always good. Vecna will always be the cooler secret keeping deity though. I was going to say at the end about the mystery beam, the way you were describing it really made it seem more like a chaos beam than a mystery beam. It sounded like the wabbajack from TES. This beholder is really turning out to be an absolute abomination. I really hope somebody makes art of this once its finished. Are we on our 4th mystra by now? I could have sworn we were only on the 3rd. I wish they had given the goddess of magic another name change instead of keeping her as mystra like they did with mystril to mystra once a new person became the goddess of magic. As I’ve been listening to more and more of your episodes, but still catching up, I hesitate to call this an “issue” I have, but I feel like some bias against 5e, or at least a need to separate 4e as some completely different universe than all the other versions before and after it from a Lore perspective. They are all connected, even if some details (big and small) change. 3e to 4e is the Spellplague, whereas 4e to 5e is the Second Sundering. They are both events that canonically happen that are more about a breaking and the restoration respectively.
