Shara, Happy New Year to you and what a wonderful project to kick it off. I built two night stands which we are still using but I have to tell you they took way longer to complete than yours probably did. Maybe I needed a Bubby for technical support. Barring that, I'd sure be buying your plans for a project like this because I've learned they really take a builder a long ways. It's been down to zero here making my unheated shop not so nice, but like you we expect some warmer temperatures. I understand you need a pause now and then to recharge and keep those creative juices flowing and it looks from that you're in full gear now. Hugs to Lucie and Bubby. Thanks for Sharing!

I just watched this probably a hour ago. And I've just been thinking about it since then. I sleep with a cpap machine which is cumbersome and has tubing. For years I've wondered what could I get that was a nightstand, with shelves but had possibly a door? That way the cpap machine isn't always visible. Then I saw this. I think this would be a great option. It's possible that this could be made and I can add a little door on the front. And the cables can still come out of the back. I don't know why but no one hasn't ever addressed furniture options to store/hide things like cpap machines that are plugged in. But to me that's a whole untapped market. Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate it. Btw, I liked the bubs notification. What a cute and chill little kitty.

Well, I know I raved about the design of the storage bed, but these nightstands just knock it out of the park. I am not kidding when I say that, once you publish the dresser (looking forward to that!) you should seriously consider submitting this suite to some design competition or magazine or something... this whole set is a perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality. "Elegantly simple." Things I love about the video itself: 1. the snazzy new animated logo intro, 2. the cool new subtitles with extra tidbits, 3. the unobtrusive way you integrated the sponsor bit, 4. some interesting new camera angles, 5. etc. etc. etc.... Shara: Another great build!! Always enjoy your projects. I've bought several of your plans and am in the middle of building your 2 drawer filing cabinet. I did notice that, for this project, rather than using pre-cut 2/2's you ripped a 2x4 (I assume at premium 2x4). As a 'newbie" woodworker I'm struggling with the curves and twists I'm finding in 2x2's How have you dealt with that? Would you now recommend the method you used in this project. Rip a premium 2x4 to get a straighter 2x2 board. Thanks!

Those look great. Did you consider doing oak panels vs plywood? I know pricing in plywood has been coming down, but wonder if solid wood be comparable?
@WoodshopDiaries11 ай бұрын
I didn’t consider it. One reason: wood movement considerations. Second reason: glue up time to make the panels. Third reason: it’s SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper (at least where I live) for hardwood plywood than solid hardwood. A 3/4” sheet of red oak is about $88 and the equivalent amount of lumber (4’x8’) in, for example, 1x6s would be roughly $575.

I heard that MDF is not strong, what does that really mean? It seems a lot stronger than card board.
@WoodshopDiaries11 ай бұрын
“Not strong” isn’t a measurement. That’s subjective. MDF may work fine for some applications and not work great for others. It really depends on what you’re using it for whether it’s a good choice of material. Personally I don’t like MDF so I don’t use it in much of anything. My experience with it is very limited.
