"Shards" tribute (Rise of the Triad)

I've always thought that this game has an awesome and totally underrated OST (written by Bob Prince and Lee Jackson, BTW), so I finally decided to make an orchestral metal tribute to one of the tracks: "Shards" (rott23.mid).
It's very conservative in terms of structure and instrumentation, but I added some solos, a proper ending, and stuff.
Hope you enjoy it!
PS: guitars are synthesized, sorry if they sound too crappy.

I sometimes prefer synthesized instruments over actual ones because of the perfectly clean notes with no blurring, unwanted extra notes, perfect timing etc... Anyway this is nicely done, a bit more loudness and it'd have fit on whatever promo videos they were doing for the new ROTT.

@ProfessorTomoe Thanks again, I really appreciate your words. I'll have in mind your advices on the drums for my next covers :) BTW, I'd LOVE to hear Havana Smooth played on real instruments. I mean, that track is AWESOME, it's not only a very good video game track, IMO it also works as a great "standalone" song.

amazing stuff! the original shards always reminded me of dracula's theme from super castlevania 4 for some reason.. it'd be interesting to hear ur take on that theme coz as far as ur covers go, TEN OUTTA TEN!

I think that they could use this version of "Shards" in the remake. It really retains the atmosphere and the epic feeling of the original, while making it fit the premise of Interceptor's revival of the game.

It's so hard to find Rise of the Triad remixes that feel like they do the original versions justice, but this one definitely does. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but I can't help but be reminded of a pair of tracks called "Savior of the Dreaming Dead" and "Black Hole/Green Sun" from Homestuck, which both happen to play in the same sequence.

Hey there, thanks for your comments, I'm glad that you liked this version :) It could be done better though, some of the synths are not of very good quality and there's a lot to be improved in the mixing. As for the tracks you're mentioning, I never heard of them, but I'll make sure to check them out.

@@Fernito they both fit into one 13 minute track called "cascade" which I highly recommend listening to anyway as for the comic itself, I wouldn't recommend it, but the soundtrack is unironically listenable in its own right

Wow, I had never heard the Dracula theme from SC4 before, very nice and eerie. Maybe I'll make a remake at some point :)

@Lee Jackson Dd you hear "Burying the Trend"'s remix of "Going Down the Fast Way", the one which he made for the new reboot of ROTT? Sounds pretty swesome in my opinion, it seems to translate pretty well to metal. LOL I think that from now on I'm going to nickname them "Burying the Trend in a Lunchbox" because they're remixing ROTT music.
