I have binders I keep staples in. Mostly lands (Dual, Shock, Fetch, Pain, Check, Pathway, Cradle, Tomb, etc.). The difference is that I use printed proxies (unless I’m testing).

I actually really like this approach and hadn't really considered it. Formerly I did something similar with a small paper list to know which decks needed which cards, but I like this idea.

Nice idea with the separate expensive card box that can interchange decks! I especially like using the art cards, could maybe even print out some labels instead of using just basic lands. Needless to say I will be using this method, thank you!

I actually have started switching to art cards for any that I can. I might print small labels for the Name and cost, but otherwise, it's a perfect use for art cards!

Yeah, this system is known as the "Staple binder system" but you are using a box instead of a binder. It works! I do things quite different but with the same objective. I own 6 EDH decks right now, they all share cards with each other. They are sleeved with the same brand and color, and I keep 2 decks built at a time. I found out that 2 decks are enough for my weekly visit to my LGS. I get to play 5 to 7 games whenever I go, so I just play 2 to 3 games with each deck and call it a night. Next week I bring 2 different decks, or maybe the same ones if I am feeling like it. It takes about 10 minutes to desconstruct a pair of decks and build new pair at home, since I don't need to change the sleeves. No time at all really. As long as the 2 decks don't share a color or share at most 1 color but the strategies are different enough that they want different cards, I can have them both fully built. This also means that, when I want I new deck, I just need to buy the cards I don't already own. It works for me.

Appreciate your input on this! Never seen another person do this at the shops I visit, but I figured someone else knew how to build decks being frugal! Thanks for the details!

I am getting a binder to do this. I personally like having a list of floaters printed with each deck and I’ll sleeve up from the binder before playing. And then I reload the binder following that list when I’m packing up.

Yea I also really like the binder approach. This way it's easy to tell what cards I have without digging through my decks. Especially handy when trading so I don't trade for double or triple of an expensive card I already have somewhere.

I've made a friend who came from another's playgroup and their rule was "I if you own the card, you can do as many placeholders you'd like" Brother had, like, 30 decks or so!!

Hey why not! I don't know if I'm going to build 30, but glad others are using placeholders to save some money.

Proxy the card - if someone is like hey what is that you can show them the hard case sleeved card. Or just rule zero and ask the group if they are ok with using a proxy for these card. Honestly never had anyone have an issue with it.

Do what works for your play-style and group I say :)

I really don't get why sorceries and instants would be different than permanents for this, you can just leave the sleeved up 1-of in the graveyard until the game ends or you have to reshuffle it into the deck somehow. Sure you get less time looking at the card and with the card but still, the method works just fine

It doesn't have to be different, just less time looking at the beautiful artwork I guess :)
