When they were announcing their commander choices I audibly laughed when higher said he was playing Kinnan. Clearly they saw how that ends up.
@lurker3987 ай бұрын
Honestly what a miss, top tier commander vs Winota which is B tier vs Slicer which is fringe but viable vs Teferi which is super fringe. Higher has the strongest commander backed up by metagame knowledge. Everyone complaining about the other 3's threat assessment but Higher employing the "coy cedh" persona against complete noobs doesn't help. I'm sure Josh and Jimmy wanted to figure out their own deck but there should have been a Blue Farm value pile.
@benbarclay42397 ай бұрын
@@lurker398 having seen Higher in a bunch of different cEDH content, what you may assume is him being coy is just him genuinely trying to teach and explain things thoroughly. Dude seems incredibly nice. Agreed tho the deck selection is weird, with Kinnan being the only meta deck at the table and not a lot of the core of cEDH being represented.
@lurker3987 ай бұрын
@@benbarclay4239 No hate to Higher! His actions are appropriate for cedh. It just clashed with the "show" given that (1) the other 3 have zero understanding so his "redirections" seem contrived (2) notice how Jimmy helps out DJ with his Phyrexian Revoker. The optimal action is for Jimmy to be quiet and let DJ misplay but Jimmy wanted to be helpful since both of them are unfamiliar.
@salem3267 ай бұрын
@@lurker398 Yeah, overall similar thoughts and feelings here, more so in regards to Josh & Jimmy's decks, both of which were lower class cEDH decks, Winota at least sees more play than those two. Most surprised we didn't see any UBx decks, or Foodchain decks, while Kinnan is deservedly a menace, there are decks that can hang with him, which just weren't chosen to be played. Strange decision! anyways, love the game overall regardless.

They definitely panicked that second game after he won so smoothly that first game
@ethanr12477 ай бұрын
They attacked the player who had the most experience, proved they could combo off out of nowhere (Kinnan was on board for most of the game), and also, most importantly, had already lied/broken a deal the previous game. If someone is willing to lie and immediately break a deal, that shows they can't be trusted. Josh and Jimmy targeted Higher the second game, despite his protestations, because, as they even said in the show, they couldn't trust what Higher was saying. And for good reason considering Higher wasn't being entirely truthful about what he said the second game, either. It's not bad threat assessment to assess the threat of a player's skill and trustworthiness over the board state. DJ was more threatening on board, but Higher's behavior and plays showed he was more threatening in every other regard. Moral of the story: don't lie and break deals. Even in cEDH, that's shitty and only earns you distrust for all future games.
@drake110117 ай бұрын

@MFobes7 ай бұрын
Seconded 100 dollars means you’re playing in the spirit of cedh but not truly the format. Proxies are fine I want to play against a deck not a wallet. But if I bring my 5k kinnan I will feel a bit bad blowing a 100 dollar slicer out of the water.
@mikotagayuna84947 ай бұрын
@@nikhilchhagan7371 As much as the cEDH community is proxy friendly, there are also people who prefer playing without them. cEDH is a mindset, not a format and a $100 limit helps in variety and more satisfying game duration. There may be broken cards but they can be kept in check by lacking card quality in other areas. Besides, the fast games would not suit the length and style of videos that the Command Zone prefers to make.
@mikotagayuna84947 ай бұрын
@@MFobes cEDH is not a format. It is just Commander with a different mindset. The $100 limit is meant to instill creativity and variety as well as a control over broken cards by forcing players to consider the pros and cons of running them when they still need to worry about the quality of the rest of their cards.
@nikhilchhagan73717 ай бұрын
@@mikotagayuna8494 that’s the thing though, cedh isn’t about creativity or expression. It’s about playing the absolute most optimal deck possible. You have to understand that playing a budget deck in a competitive format is inherently losing some competitive edge, which is not in the spirit of the format. Even if you did want to try to do budget for fun while still maintaining the CEDH philosophy, $100 is way too low considering most CEDH decks are 30-50 times that

This was a great episode. When I first got into commander I hated cEDH and wanted nothing to do with it. But after giving it a try I realized it can be very fun. I will always remember my first cEDH commander Ruric Thar who has a special place in my heart. It was great seeing Jimmy pilot Slicer. It is just so cool that a mono red voltron commander is viable in cEDH. Also for those who think cEDH is only for the rich it is not. Yes optimally the fast mana pieces like mana crypt and the moxes are expensive but you can make cEDH budget decks believe it or not. I made a $100 Malcolm keen eyed navigator/Kediss emberclaw familiar deck and came in 2nd place at my local LGS cEDH tournament. And who knows, you may make a deck you truly love and want to build up with those more expensive pieces over time. But don't think you have to shell out hundreds of dollars at once to enjoy cEDH.
