I replaced my refrigerator and am using the glass crisper tray and just have a large white nonslip pad under it. Amazon has tempered glass crisper shelves. For example, a tempered one is $28.39 and measures 23.7 x 15.5 x 1/8". There are other sizes. To have a grid underneath, Walmart online has 5 piece sheets of heavy-duty 22 x 28" poster board for $6.97 or for a lighter duty one the same size online for $4.88. The grids are a light color which could be an issue for some.

Ha, I have actually come up with the ink dauber storage option myself: use stackable bead storage jars and actually at one point had them stacked up about a foot long😂. I have a dauber top for each of my Oxide colours , label the jar and they work a treat! Keep the dauber wet, too - so many times I can ink blend something on the quick without having to get my ink pads out. Brilliant!

I really enjoyed this video and learned so much! Sadly about three months ago I bought a black glass mat proclaimed to be outstanding by one of the top card-making influencers. The black color makes it difficult to see any ink put on the mat for blending, making notes, not a good choice. Now I see it has a scratch! It was a very expensive purchase, and disappointing as well. Thank you for offering a more cost-effective option for others wanting a glass mat.

If you want a good gilding polish/wax, try Finnabair by Prima Marketing. A little tiny bit goes a long way so it's one of those products that the price is kind of cringy, but you've barely made a dent in it 6 mos. later even though you've been using it a lot. It comes in matte, metallic, and pearl. It goes on really smooth and you can apply it thick or thin. Bonus: It smells reeeaaally good! It's made with beeswax, so you can't put anything over it. Pro Tip: Squeeze the tube into a small container. Cover it with Press n Seal. Put the lid on. If it separates or looks dry, give it a good stir with a toothpick. Some of the colors can look kinda moldy at times. It's just the darker pigments have separated out, especially the green. Give it the sniff test. A few years ago, there was a problem with the manufacturing. Prima replaced all the moldy tins for free, to their credit. That's when those KZbin videos come from. I got 2 of the bad tins. I got replacements right away. It was a one time problem that got fixed as soon as Prima found out about it. There's been no problems since. When they changed manufacturers, they had to switch to paint tubes. You waste a lot of wax by having to squeeze it out onto a palette. If you put it in a container, a little dab will do ya'. It shows up not only on black but is vibrant on white as well. Prima's products are no longer in my budget, because they're kinda pricey, but I still pay for the waxes. They're worth every penny and if you use a light touch with your finger tool, they end up being the same price as the other brands if not a little bit cheaper. If you want to spatch metallics through a stencil, don't use gilding. Use pastes. It's a lot cheaper. You can always add highlights after the paste dries. Thanks for all the revues. They're really helpful! Here's a small payback. I hope you find it useful. I recommend trying Peacock & Antique Gold for starters.

The stackable foam blender containers I’ve had from Ali for a couple of years and I love them and have a little tip to share that worked well for me. I went through all my oxides and figured approx how many ink colors one blender could do such as light to med to dark of the same color family or tone. Then I took sticker type address labels from Avery that were not the tiny return address size but the little bit bigger and I ink blended each oxide color on them. Let them dry overnight. If you want to write the name on you want to do this next before you distress glaze them. But keep in mind the cool part is you cut these into 3 narrow strips. 1 goes on the stacking containers, and the other 2 you can put on your ink pads. But please use distress glaze on them so if you grab the ink pad or container with wet hands you don’t change the ink color and have to start over. This process was very fast and very easy. I’m planning on doing my CP inks too eventually. I hope this tip helps.

I have the original magnetic glass mat & I was actually disappointed in the magnetic features with re: stenciling. I didn't feel that it held my stencils in place w/o having to use several magnets & then they were in the way of inking the stencils. I now mainly use it for multi-media and have gone back to using the silicone mats/WF grip mat or heck even my gel plate to hold the stencil/paper in place.Thanks for the video!

Also, Tim’s new scissors don’t have the micro serrated blades like the old ones. The only time it annoys me is with fussy cutting, which I don’t do very often. I’ve heard other people really dislike it though so the new ones should be better for them.

I love this kind of video. So many products out there. The more info I can get before buying, the more prepared I feel to make good decisions. Thanks, Mary! BTW, I’ve tried the Duo, and haven’t had great results. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.

Thanks so much for this; I agree, there are a lot of things I would want to see in person before buying. Hmmm...it's possible your sandwich combination is not correct. If you think about it, shoot me an email about the problems you're having, maybe I have some ideas. mary@marypolancodesigns.com

Nice video! Thank you Mary 😊 Now that I have tried Simon Hurley's Solar Pastes, I doubt trying the metallic paste. While they certainly pop on dark cardstock, using them on white card stock has its own magic. Yes the colors are subtle but it packs a lot of shimmer that is simply elegant for Wedding or Birthday cards. Using several colors on white gives hints of the color that shimmers beautifully. You might try that metallic paste again using a brayer on an embossed image? Just a thought LOL. Blessings Mary ❤

@Mary Polanco, I wonder how the pearl watercolors would look if a second coat was put over the white and black cardstock after the first coat was dried?

Thanks for testing all these for us (& for you, too, I assume). :) I would be curious on the gilding polish if it would work on any dark color - not just black - or even an ink blended/smooshed background that you embossed afterwards. Obviously not white, but I kinda wonder how light you could go with the background color before it wouldn't show up. Hmmmmm.... Also, I would emphasize that (unless I'm mistaken) the transfer gel works only with toner-reactive foil, not the hot foil system foil. I've never used the hot foil for anything, though, so I have zero experience or evidence to back up my claim. LOL As far as that magnetic mat, I wonder if the magnets don't hold as well because it's meant as more of a marker board/magnet board. At least, I assume that's how it's marketed, since you mentioned you can hang it up. If so, I would think it just wouldn't be designed with something "vigorous" in mind like ink blending, that would need a stronger hold. Just my thoughts on that. So I would say if a stronger magnetic "connection" is important, you just might have to pay more. Anyway, thank you again for sharing. Take care, & have a fantastic day! :)

I'll have to try the gilding polish over a smooshed background and love the embossing idea as well. I think it would be awesome. Great point on the magnets, I agree. I think I was unfair in my expectations but do love it for its other purposes and the price!

Hello! I love your videos. They are so helpful. Have you tried or do you own the spellbinder detail scissors/snips? I was wondering between those and the new Tim Holtz ones that you showed here. Does the spring action on the Tim Holtz snips help with fusing cutting like making it easier and faster with the spring besides them being good ergonomically? Also I have those containers for my ink daubers and it is such a space saver. I love them. 😊
@marypolancodesigns7 ай бұрын
I have not tried the spellbinders detail scissors. My favorite up until these are the Cutter Bee Scissors; SO GREAT! I don't think I would say the spring helps me fussy cut; it doesn't get in the way though either. There may be a bit of a learning curve but I do not the spring make it a bit easier on my hand muscle.
