Humans are trainable. I co-slept with my doberman when I was young. This had to end, as she became an unmovable bed hog. It's amazing how rigid the legs become when they don't want to move. I would often end up on a tiny sliver of the mattress, while she had almost the entire bed. She, and now every one of my dogs since has had their own - separate - bed.

I co sleep with my dogs. It helps my anxiety issues and ptsd nightmares. My belgian malinois helps make sure I go to bed, too. She will nag me, guilt me, follow me around, make me feel bad until I finally cave and at least lay down to rest. So even if I can't sleep, I'm still able to allow myself to give my body rest. And it varies. Occasionally, they sleep under the blankets or on top. They all have their own pillow now so no more fighting over pillows or me having to hide my pillow. I just got a cali king-size bed. They are bed hogs/cuddle whores. I have a pit/rot/lab mix, a belgian malinois, and I can't wait until I have another European Doberman again. I miss mine and my sons dog Hel. She was amazing.

Our dobie was polite enough to make himself scarce when the old lady and I were engaged in some 'jiggery-pokery' - so to speak. The biggest downside - of which there seemed few - was when he dropped his guts now and then. Sometimes we'd get a warning when his 'bunghole' expanded momentarily - then the burning eyes, the choking and the laughter. Mostly very cosy, sometimes like a chemical attack.

I tried to listen to you, way back when you got Arlo and I got Jed in 2020. Ohh, I made the crate, bought a bed, etc.. Then when I picked him up, (pick of the 11 pup litter) from Unique Dobermans in Oregon, that first nite he slept in the crate. He didn't much like it. The second nite I thought it wouldn't hurt to snug him in my bed for just a few minutes. Which turned in to all nite, and he's never slept anywhere else since. Though he only snugs under the covers about an hour in the mornings, but the rest of the nite he sleeps in the crook behind my knees or actually on top of my legs on the bed. We like it.

I have had different experiences with different dogs. One Doberman slept very peacefully on the bed. My next doberman refused to get on the bed at all. She was a very shy rescue dog. My current dog, also a rescue, started out sleeping with me on the bed. She is a very needy and anxious dog and kept jumping on and off the bed grabbing different toys etc. all night long. I wasn't getting any sleep, so I finally had to stop allowing her to sleep with me on the bed. She now sleeps in the same room with me in her crate (open door, extra cosy) , and that seems to be working well for both of us. Just like people, every dog is unique!

I’m now even considering getting her certified as an ADA support dog. I have loved every dog I’ve ever owned but she is truly so special I can’t imagine my world without her ❤ She also sleeps better, longer & through the night in bed with me compared to when she was in the crate. In late 1990, my now husband and I travelled from our home in southeastern VA to eastern TN to pick up the 2nd doberman that was joining our family from the breeder we were buying her from. It was a quick turn and burn trip, and we spent the night with my parents who fortuitously lived not far from where the breeders facility located. Since we didn't have the normal puppy accoutrements (ie a crate) with us, we slept that night with the 4 month old puppy between us in the bed. Since that night, there has not been a night that our bed has not been shared by at least one and at times as many as 4 dobermans. I have a precious collection of photos my husband has taken of my pillow being shared by a happily sleeping dobiedog. We wouldn't have it any other way. Now at age 70 two dobies share our bed and my female boxer/husky/lab mix sleeps on her dog bed next to my side of the bed or on her auxiliary bed at the foot of the bed (she doesn't like to sleep on the bed except during thunderstorms). Except for an hour or so most nights that our female Dobie commandeers the auxiliary bed, that has a plush throw blankie on it, for a little suckie-time. I tried putting the blankie up on our bed for her, but no when she wants to do suckie she wants to do it on Maggie's bed.

Mine had been kennel trained by the 2 week training. However, I had a lab mix that was co-sleeping already and I felt like the puppy wouldn't feel like pack. Athena has her own pillow with a waterproof blanket that is 60" long. She knows when we're getting ready for bed that "I have to fix the blankie." She'll wait until I pat the blanket and then hops up. The down side is: 1. I have up to 13 stuffed animal "pacis" on the floor and bed. She's like a toddler. 2. I end up with tiny bruises on my arms, legs, belly, etc. when she tries to wake me up. 3. I have the entire Pensacola Beach in my bed. She and her sister have "Pavlov paths" where the grass is gone. Also, there are multiple areas under trees where there is no grass, but it's cool under there. She sleeps on her blanket, but it inevitably slips down, and she ends up where the quilt has not covered the sheets. Sigh 4. I quilt, and nearly every quilt background is white. But it's not all her fault, because she has an 80 lb. Black Lab sister, and two black cats that roam freely between my son and my bed. My husband works away. Would I change anything? Nope. I love my bed buddies, especially my velcro marshmallow.

Ollie is an amazing company. My doberman got put on beef free diet dye to kidney issues. I just received my monthly subscription when I got the news. I called Ollie up to get his next box switched up. They actually credited my account and had me donate to the shelter. They rushed over the box. Titus will skip a meal if he doesn't have his Ollie added to his kible. As for the sleeping, his potty training days he was in his kennel, after that became successful he was allowed to sleep on floor, his bed or his blanket. He worked himself into the bad after I fell asleep several times. Now I let him sleep where he wants. Typically he starts out on the bed. Then depending on how I'm sleeping he will go into his kennel or his bed most nights. Letting him sleep where he is comfortable has helped with our bond and has not had any behavior issues. That is just our experience. I know other owners that have had issues with guarding their owners excessively. May be other factors I'm unaware of there.

Damian didnt start off in my bed. He transitioned to my bed when he was about two years old. He sleeps on the covers. He sheds so much lol so seeping under the covers with me I can’t bare it lol. My only issue with having him sleep in my bed is he eats the sheets or comforter. I wake up and see wholes in my bedding. So now if I hear him licking I immediately wake up and yell leave it. So yes my sleep is being affected. So the hair shedding and eating my bedding are my only cons. Pros is I love the safety, comfort and cuddles 🥰. Oh and I put him on Ollie!! per your videos when he was 2 he is now 3 years old. Do eating it for a year now and eating Ollie is great! He will not go back to Hills Science diet kibble. At the start of this year Freya decided she too should be a bed dog. (The Vizsla has been the bed dog since I got Freya from a rescue in July 2020.) Up to now she has periodic slept on the bed-usually when dealing with her storm anxiety. She is fine in her crate and will even appear to be asleep but clearly she is listening for my head to hit the pillow after which she rattles the crate door. I was used to having 2 large dogs in the bed prior to getting her so it isn’t a big deal. In fact, there were times in the past with my storm phobic Lab mix that I have 3 dogs on the bed during a thunderstorm. Freya sleeps on top of the covers. The Vizsla sleeps under them. On the plus side Freya will not permit me to hit the snooze alarm too many times. If I try she will come to the side of the bed and use that Doberman nose to remind me that the clock is ticking on time to leave for work but more importantly time for her breakfast. 😂

I sometimes let Sammy sleep with me. Usually he sleeps on the living room couch. It's funny how he lays down slowly on the couch or the floor, but when he gets on the bed, he just comes crashing down. Dropping his full weight right up against me. I have a queen sized bed and it's not big enough for the two of us because he curls up and that takes up too much space. I try to get more towards the center of the bed before he gets in but I always end up getting pushed right to the edge of the mattress. So if I don't really need a good night's sleep, I'll let him sleep on the bed as a treat.

Joe, it must be something in the name! My Sammy does the "Electric Elbow Drop from the 3rd turnbuckle" every night when we go to bed. It's how I can tell if he's annoyed with me about something. If I have been behaving properly, he just grazes my torso when flopping down. If I have been a bad dad, I get all 105 pounds on the center of my chest and a snoot in the face. It's a race to see who can claim the center of the bed...and at the end of the day, my knees are usually hanging over the edge...

Sometimes her legs are straight up and she moves to the foot end. (Off duty mode). There's great pictures of WWII Doberman's keeping watch over sleeping GI's. My hunting Beagle behaved a similar way. Big stretches and moans of appreciation when off duty. Beware you can/will get a head but or kick due to a dream.

Mine is a service dog background and ipo positive. My Doberman sleeps on my bed or in the computer room with the pitbull in their own beds. I have 3 chihuahuas and a 30lb service dog german pincher that sleeps RIGHT UP ON ME UNDER THE BLANKETS! The Doberman doesnt want in the blankets, but wants another blanket on top of him. He ends up wrapped around me with his head on my head all night long! And on top of my german pincher that lets out a tiny annoyed growl when he is first getting on her! I tell him to "get in your spot!" And he will back up and keep his kneck WAY BACK with his head up slightly at an angle. He waits for me to lay bk down and he sneaks RIGHT BK OVER TO CURL UP ON ME! All i have to do to get him off the bed is ask if he wants to go potty! He jumps off all by himself happily! He stays on my bed during the day/night almost everyday. When he is hungry he will stare right at me and get closer and closer to my face while im sitting watching tv. He gets close until he has his nose TOUCHING MY FACE AND STAYS THERE FOR AN HR SOMETIMES! Then he gives me 3 tiny licks with the tip of his tongue! If he has to go out, he wines high pitched very quietly while staring at the hallway!

Our last Dobe (R.I.P) and our current Dobe sleeps with us. They are so snuggly. They do DEMAND covers though. My husband and I are on dog #5 in 30 years (we usually have 2 at a time) all large breeds, all rescued when they were 1 to 6 years old. All our dogs slept with us. ❤

I started with my first Dobe in 1981. Five Dobe's later, the last one passed in 2021. I miss all of them to this day. They all slept with me. Were excellent bed buddies. I now have a female Belgian Malinois due to where I was in 2019. I did not want another Doberman due to the tremendous health problems that they are now displaying at younger and younger ages. All of my female Dobes were incontinent and the last 2 had Wobblers Syndrome. My last one a male died in a few minutes of a major heart attack at 8 yrs in 2021. They are such heart breakers. I miss their intelligence and beauty. The Malinois, very different, but much easier to train and does not have her own agenda as all of my Dobes did.

I love sleeping with my Doberman, unfortunately now I am in a very small house with a single bed and I wake up in pain so she has a mattress by my bed. But I miss her very much

My 100lb mastiff lab mix slept next to me on top of the cover for 9.5 years. It strengthened our bond more than anything. We had rules and a routine around being on the bed and he had his own dog bed next to the bed if either one of us needed space

Having my Doberman sleep on the ground in his own bed does not make me love him less, and he's trained to stay off all furniture too. This however does not stop me from sliding off the sofa and sitting next to him while watching TV; if we pass out, we pass out😊

Mine is a trained PTSD dog, so if I have a nightmare he climbs up on the bed to comfort me.

I love my dobie, but he only wants to wrestle, mouth and rough house. He also has wicked gas and I personally don't want to sleep in dog hair or dog musk. He's got a crate in my room. That's the closest we'll get to co-sleeping

I feel the same exact way! My OCD can never 😅 I would totally get a levelled bed for my dobie though

Cool video; could you give your take on getting 2 pups at the same time. Like from the same litter. Wondering if how that would develop.
@torysetliff6 ай бұрын
There are some major problems with this. They call it litter mate syndrome. You’ll just have to look into the common issues and decide whether or not you’re prepared to deal with them…

for the first time in 31 years I am letting a dog sleep with us. Yes....let that dobe sleep with you! He sleeps on top of bed. The only problem from it is if I get up during the night he takes my space away. He has finally learned that when I snap my fingers and point he is to go to that area so I don't have to wake up my husband. Sorta hot in the summer time but in the winter its a nice.

We co-sleep with our Doberman. We also put a bed on the floor so sometimes in the middle of the night he will go on his bed on the floor. His behavior hasn’t changed from sleeping in our bedroom. Sometimes if my husband isn’t in the bed right away my Doberman will get on my husband’s side of the bed. He never does that to my side of the bed. My dobie seems to listen to me more so when I tell him to move over he will for me. I have to be firm though. I’ve always been the main trainer with everything that he learns so that’s probably why. He walks better with me, learns tricks better with me so Iit kind of makes sense that he would listen to me. I’m not boasting it’s just the way it is. He minds me better.

Dobermans are super smart, so he has likely picked up on the fact that you're his primary trainer and listens to you better because of that.

Both Kiba (2.5 years old) and his son Kenji (4 months) sleep on my bed. When hubby is home, they don’t, he doesn’t like it and there’s not enough room anyway. They adjust when he’s home.

I work a swing shift and my Doberman, Brady, sleeps by my bed no matter if I’m on days or on nights. On my last night, I’ll grab my pillows and lay down on the couch - Brady goes crazy jumping up on the ottoman by the couch to snuggle with me. In the winter I cover him up with me. 🤗

I’ve slept with my Dobermans since the first day I got them as puppies. They sleep on top of the covers as I was afraid they would suffocate under the covers when they were so small. One is 3 years old and one is 15 months old. They both sleep right against me one on rash side.

I have two females, and they both sleep at the foot of the bed on the floor in their own beds. I definitely think it helps with separation anxiety. We don't have any added issues with obedience either.

had one as a youngster,Toby slept where ever he wanted, and when.N O, I mean ZERO behavior problems. And NOBODY was going to get thru my bedroom door,no outsiders just my mom dad cousins, could have slept on a pile of 100 dollar bills, totally safe.

I loved this video of yours. My girl is only half Dobie. The other half is Mal/GS. She totally acts like a full Dobie. 3 years ago I broke my femur and was away for a month recovering. The first nite I came home and went to bed, I felt the other side of my king size bed move downward. I thought it was my SO checking on me. I looked over and it was my girl Sam, standing on her hind feet with her "hands" on the bed checking on me. She has slept with me ever since. She has her side of the bed and I have mine. I keep a blanket on top of the bed clothes and she sleeps on top. She has her own pillow. and moves around during the nite from the pillow to the foot to the middle. Hey-whatever is comfy!

Ive got a Kingsize bed, and i sleep with a Jack Chi and a Pomeranian. When i wake up in the morning, I'm clinging to the edge of the bed so i dont fall out. They take up more room than my female GSD used to, the male GSD liked to sleep by the front door.

Our girl sleeps under the covers with us every night. She is a well-behaved girl, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! She does at times affect our sleep quality-but usually that’s only a major issues if she is not feeling well or it’s storming, etc. I’d imagine she would be waking us up even if sleeping elsewhere under those circumstances.
