Hi Hal! My brother and sister in law recently told me 10 years ago they were snorkelling in Morten Island QLD Australia of some shipwrecks that they narrowly escaped two tiger sharks that were after them, thats why he never goes swimming in the ocean. They were lucky that day as they didnt end up as victims! Great content, i enjoy listening to your channel 🥰

What I love about your channel Hal is that you never make assumptions. You go through the reports point by point, as written, and if there is no shark mentioned, you don't go on to assume that it is, for example, a Great White or a Bull. You just leave it as is. Also, you have come to this territorial hypothesis through diligent research into all these attack files, comparing and contrasting accounts. After spending 5 days a week for 4 months a year for 4 years surfing at Stinson beach in Northern CA as a teenager I’ve had 1 very uncomfortable instance. Since then I have never surfed again. After that much time at a beach you come across most of the sea life. The occasional seal, or dolphin, ray etc. The currents there are pretty consistent, so when something went under the back of my board with enough force and movement in the water to almost turn me completely around I called it. Sold my board a week later. Anything that big, curious or not, aint gunna be much left if they take a bite. F that

Matthieu Schiller was a french and european boogie board champion. On 19 September 2011 at approximately noon Schiller was surfing along with over a dozen other surfers on Reunion Island. After diving under a wave he was seen being attacked by several sharks. The first shark bit his legs, Schiller was witnessed beating the shark with his boogie board. A second shark bit his torso while another shark was seeing snapping his jaws around Schiller. Vincent Rzepecki was the first guard to attempt rescuing. Fellow surfer Yves Delaplin arrived to the scene and held Schiller on his board while Rzepecki arrived for rescuing. Rzepecki took Schiller on his board but was quickly knocked out by newly forming waves. Rzepecki held to Schiller but subsequent waves forced the now deceased surfer from his arms. After swimming to shore the fire department initiated the recovery of Schiller's body being quickly overwhelmed by the number of sharks in the vicinity of the impact zone. Schiller's body hasn't been recovered. It was the fourth attack by a shark of the year.

Hi Hal. Really appreciate your videos. No nonsense and super informative. Just some feedback if I may? Your google map for the Scarborough incident is incorrect. The Scarborough shown in the video is in Perth, Western Australia, not the Scarborough on the Southern Peninsula in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. Strangely enough, the two satellite images, cropped like that, look remarkably similar, geographically. Based on attacks and Shark Spotters data in the region, best guess is it was a Great White. But, granted, that's not a verifiable fact. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

I wonder if a shark would have a fairly slow metabolism; I mean they can't stop swimming and get a takeaway if they get peckish. Maybe to sustain them during long periods of going without enough food? Or because of having a cold water system, maybe? (Probably way off the mark)
@MariaAbrams2 жыл бұрын
@@maxine3587 no, they need to eat regularly and can't go weeks without a mean. If they metabolized at a slow rate, that would make sense and they'd only need to eat every few weeks, but that's not the case. They eat multiple times a week, if not even daily, depending on their prey, but they don't go more than a few days between meals max. Rare for them to go much longer, but they digest their food fairly quickly. They digest their meals within 15 to 60hrs after eating. So there shouldn't have been anything left in it's stomach that long later. Idk why body parts would be found that much later. If he had been in the water that whole time, other animals would have predated him to the point where there shouldn't have been anything left of him. I'm really clueless as to why that would be... really weird.

I saw the horrific wound on photos, the place of the bite was like a crater of shredded flesh and blood. No butt anymore. She survived, the doctor placed a tissue which would eventually replace her butt. I was reading Hawaii Shark Attack file the other day, saw her name and remembered. They had no photos anymore. Is this usually the way SAF work or do you think the victim asked them to remove the photos? Google search also with no photos of the injury. The year was 1995.

He had once wanted to watch sharks in the open sea far away from any land in a plastic glass "security" box. A shark started to circle the box with Jimmy inside of it, bumped its nose against the plastic glass two times and the third time it came up fast from below and bit through the plastic glass, destroying the box and nearly killing him. He managed to escape and to swim back to the nearby boat where his colleagues feared the worst. After that incident he suffered from PTSD.

Divers apparently tried to rescue Schiller's body but were chased off by Bull sharks. Those sharks off Reunion Island are nasty. A guy fell off the rocks there while fishing and was eaten by sharks in front of her daughter while they waiting for him to be rescued.

Reunion Island would be a nice place to visit and swim, dive and surf if it was not for the sharks.
@surfrider9862 жыл бұрын
@@markmailander3880 Sure would be, buddy! I'd love to surf that left off St Leu but wouldn't risk it, even with my shark shield. Diving there seems as safe as anywhere else tho', it's the surfers and swimmers that have been attacked.

It appears, after reading two other very brief reports, that Mr. Colby did survive his shark encounter. He only received a minor injury to one foot.

I was helping a friend unsnag rope from his prop. and we were about 3 miles off shore. So i go in the water and have him eyeball the water around me as it was the middle of summer and this was off Montauk and well....you know what's in that area. Anyway, an Orca swam right up next to me and off from my blindspot. Scared the crap out of me. I was frozen. Turns out it was young and wanted to play. When i didn't play it got bored and left. I suppose it coulda been worse. But damn, lmao. That day i felt my nuts climb up into my throat. Ahahahaha. Looking back i shoulda took the opportunity to interact with it seeing as it wanted to interact with me.

Oceanic white tips are common there and implicated in other shark bites. Makos I don't think so.

Hal you should look into one of the most brutal fatal attacks which was not covered in the media in the comunist Yugoslavia, Montenegro to be exact. 13th July 1955 6.5 m GW killed a 22 year man near Budva ME it was said that monster was in the Adriatic because it came with American Cruise ship and came close to shore because a villager throw a donkey corpse im the waters nearby. Guy went swiming with friends and was bit in half 5-10 minutes after thet, coast guard chased it but could not kill it. Medditeranian GW are scary

@@angelwalker3260 21.5 around that it was a monster poor guy family even carved a headstone in the rock overlooking the beach because the body was not found. It is said on that stone that he was killed by a sea ''neman'' , neman means monster in Serbian. There was a lot of stories about it even 60 years after ppl still know about that attack and whole lot of stories are told. Definetly a chilling story

When a boat moves in to pull an attack victim out of the water, the primitive brain of the shark sees the boat as a competitor and usually moves in for the food quickly, same happened to Heather Boswell.
@SharksHappen2 жыл бұрын
Where do you get primitive brain? The brain of the dogfish MBs dissect and study is as primitive as it gets in sharks. Is not like tgat with all sharks. Lemons have been trained to do complicated mazes for their treat at the end. And then there is the white with the most efficient brain in sharks. Primitive. Not the sharks on this show. We deal with large sharks

Hal, your show perfectly proves a theory of mine that sharks move with intent. Not all are after us. They have their preferred meals and others are really opportunistic. Some can be more aggressive territorially, then there are those that'll give you a "pass." Your extra facts and insight prove that sharks aren't just mindless killers and there is usually a good reason behind most attacks. They couldn't have a better advocate.
