I've gotten them to come down to $45 for the nozzle on my ZS362. I told them that I was really upset about the fact that my vacuum only lasted 6 months before the nozzle started giving me problems. They told me that I had to buy the replacement nozzle for $90. I argued that how ridiculous that was and they came down to $45 on the price. To me, it was well worth it to not have to buy a $300 new vacuum or pay nearly $100 for the nozzle. The new nozzle comes with a 1 year warranty and they replaced it for me already completely free of charge about 8 months later. I just got it to my house today. Sadly, I think the problem is actually my stick wand, because the new nozzle is not turning on at all just the same as the one I replaced. I'm gonna call and see if they will replace the wand now.

We had one of these and just replaced it with another through Costco generous return policy. What would you recommend as an upgrade to handle a house full of long haired girls...;) The issue I run into is the hair always wraps around the brush and to your point is getting embedded in the brush axle/bearing and destroys it over time. After my best friend's mom heard how much I spent on a Sebo X7, she was borderline furious that I didn't get a Dyson or two Sharks (one for her, one for me.) I told her how all her hair, her daughter's hair, and their 4 cats' fur would kill either one in less than a year and she was still not convinced. I showed her the warranty on Sharks vs Sebos and she understood. Now she just wants HEPA bags for her 1990 Hoover Sprint and wants it to keep gowing.

My R40 p.6 Riccar the other day when I got it out to vacuum both the filter light and the bag light started to flash. The bag was a new empty bag and everything was running fine. Tried resetting the filter clock and both lights went off. What would cause that to happen? Thanks John

Hey John! How long have you been running the same filter? The filter clock is simply that... it is just a timer that give a general point at which to change the filter. Could you have used it enough to hit that timer? Keep an eye on it an let me know if it comes back. Thanks!

I think you just solved my question to why my Shark duoclean nv800w brushes will no longer turn. I bought this vacuum 2017 and it has worked great up tile a few months ago I started smelling what smelt like a belt burning then my vacuum turned itself off. I have pets so I rely on my vacuum to keep my floors clean from animal hair. I was very picky with my vacuum making sure the brushes stayed hair free and filters clean; however I got a house rabbit for my grandbabies and that's when the trouble started. Rabbit hair is worse than dog and cat hair put together for I had to empty and clean the brush heads every five minutes. If you have a pet with thick fur use the wand it may save you a vacuum cleaner. Thank you

Ironically I found this channel AFTER I purchased a Shark Vertex (AZ2000W) through the company’s website. It arrived 4 days ago, and to may dismay, seems to be defective. Hopefully you will see this, and help me decide on returning it or keeping it. A few things are concerning, first it seems depending on the position of the handle, the suction/rolls are more powerful. In other words, from a just reclined starting position the suction is intensely strong, yet toward the end of my push, it breaks the seal and loses suction. Second thing, I’ve used it 3 times and today when using it the brush rolls sounded like they were spinning very fast and actually agitating the carpet leaving vacuum lines and fulfill the pile. When I used it before it barely agitated the fibers, but the dustbin was full of hair and fine particles. Please help me understand if these are all normal things, or if it is a lemon. P.S- I just subbed and turned on notifications.

Hi there, thanks for watching and subscribing! While I'm not sure exactly where your problem is located, my guess would be that it is indeed breaking the seal in the air pathway at some point. It would explain why it is cleaning differently depending on where in the cleaning pass you are at. It would also explain why you are noticing a difference in carpet pickup. Again, without looking at the vacuum I cannot say for sure. Personally, would be of the opinion that you should probably return it if you are still within the window. Sharks are pretty widely known in the industry for not being repairable, mostly because Shark doesn't make parts available. So you are stuck doing one of two things. If it is under warranty, you ship it back to them and they send you a refurbished unit with a short warranty (the original warranty doesn't transfer). If you are out of warranty and something break, typically you are out of luck. Given that these are currently retailing for about $380, there are better options out there. I would probably recommend a Sebo Dart or Felix. They run $499-$699 depending on model, but are made in Germany, clean well, and come with a 10 year warranty if you purchase it from an authorized retailer like myself. For not much for money you will actually get a vacuum that will last you 20+ years. The $499 Dart is a great bargain for the money. I only purchased the shark because it was on sale and had an $80 off coupon reducing it to just under $275. We have a Dyson Dc41 that not longer works due to the change over gasket being torn, and the brush roll is very worn. We also have a Neato Botvac and a Dyson Stick vac that also doesn’t run for more than 6 seconds. With all of that money spent, I was not looking at spending another 5-7 hundred...of course in hindsight, I would have found your channel years ago and understood repairability and durability play a huge role in the vacuum world. Do you sell refurbished units for a lower price point?

Hey @N 7. I don't really deal with refurbished units unless they are really cherry Miele, Sebo or Riccar models. These come through sporadically and I do not currently have any. I understand where you are coming from feeling like you have thrown good money after bad on vacuums... it is an unfortunate reality of today's box store brands. That being said, $500 is right around the sweet spot for a good cleaning vacuum that will last. Anything lower than that will be a band-aid and you will need to plan on replacing eventually. If you need to stay sub-$500 upright, probably the only vacs I would recommend would be the bagged Hoover T-Series or Simplicity S20EZ. These are probably 5-8 year vacuums, a little bit longer if you take care of them. I hope that helps!

Excellent breakdown on the problems these sharks have. a common issue we have been seeing is the nozzle hose turns yellow and becomes stiff before inevitably breaking. we have had some success in using old hoover hoses from discarded vacuums to replace the hose.

My duoclean speed nozzle broke. We have a business that has a fetish putting out sand in their parking lot, along with a shedload with salt. So much, that it basically made its way into the nozzle motor. Which slowly killed it. But along with it, I noticed the hose inside it was broke after around 3 years, along with another one I own. I'm ok with that, because it was used commercially for 3 years, and that's not really a bad life for a vacuum I paid $180 for. But since they no longer have that brush nozzle for sale anymore, both are now useless. I'm going to get a second hand Sebo D4 for that location, and feed baking soda to the shark - it deserves it.

I have the shark upright power lift Apex the one that looks like a military vacuum LOL with the olive drab green color it was like $239 at Walmart, I took it right out of the box and immediately the brushes were shutting off and the brush indicator light would trip simultaneously. This company has really gone downhill I remember I had a shark vacuum about 10 years ago and it was powerful, it lasted a long time and then I bought a Dyson so for literally $200 more you can get a really good Dyson basic model and I had that vacuum for 8+ years never a problem but I gave it to a friend who needed one and now I’m regretting getting rid of my Dyson

Thanks for watching and the comment! In all honesty Shark it is pretty close to the same level it has always been. The quality of the unit you get is luck of the draw. It may last 7 months or 7 years depending on the one you get. Dyson is currently at a low in terms of reliability, unfortunately. If you get another mid-priced vacuum, check out the Sebo Dart. Much, much better quality and it will last 15-20 easily.

Hello, I’ve got a Shark Liftaway that turns off when I disconnect the Floor attachment to use the wand for dusting. I've cleaned absolutely everything. Floor brush roll works great. Shark could not help. (They sent a whole new motor body but it still happens. ) Would you recommend buying a new wand? Wow, that's a new for me. My best guess is there is something going on in the hose/handle switch that is causing that if the body has already been replaced. But I couldn't say for sure without looking at it. I supposed you could start with the wand then move on to a new hose, but that is a lot of expense for a machine that wasn't incredibly expensive in the first place. You'll have to make the final call, but I would seriously consider replacing it with something of higher quality rather than throwing money at it with no guarantees. Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Hello I brought a Shark navigator deluxe from the pawn shop. It worked fine the first 2 times. Then I noticed the suction was decreasing and the light was dimming. So I cut it off let it rest, my babies broke the filter cover button in the front. It kept popping off and would get hot,so I stopped using it for a few days. I went to vacuum it worked a few mins the cut off. Cleaned the filters, dumped the bin and checked the hoses. It would not cut finally like a week later it cut on, the brush roll didn’t work and the light didn’t come on. It had suction on bare floor mode and carpet but the brushroll didn’t work. I cut it off let it rest for an hour, now not working again. Please help me 😢 ? I apologize for the long comment.

Great question! I think what you are dealing with is an intermittent thermal switch or a PCB issue. Even with washing, a HEPA filter can get occluded enough to trip the thermal switch. Try running the machine without the HEPA on it and see if things improve. If they don't, I could be the motor is getting old and running hot, which will allow it to work until it gets too hot, it will shut off, and then come back on when it has cooled down. If removing the filter doesn't work, it is going to be an electronic component... probably a circuit board. At that point it would be time to start looking for a new machine.

Brushroll on my Shark stopped spinning, no idea why. Took it apart after ordering some security screw bits. Nothing wrong with the belt. Nothing wrong with the motor. Nothing wrong with it in general. Put it back together minus two parts that fell out during disassembly and it works perfectly.

Hey Kimmie! It sounds like it is either the microswitch under the nozzle's elbow or a bad circuit board. The only way to really tell is to test the microswitch and if that is good, then it is the circuit board. In that case the only fix will be a whole new nozzle from Shark. All I can say is that all Hoover's are crap.. Had one that cost £200 staeted smoking then caught fire in a week of using it Shark just stopped working yesterday, it just completely powered off on its own and will not power back on and only had it for a couple of months Stick to brush n shovel at least they was built to last

I would just mod the crap out of them when necessary, something I'm pretty sure is verboten among the pros. I have an HV302 stick vac and an NV800C lift-away, both trash picks, and was unable to find anything wrong with either. I found the NV800C very recently, and being unfamiliar with Shark vacs in general I thought I had found out why it had been tossed when I powered it up and the rollers were not turning. Unfortunately I didn't find out what was stopping them until after I had struggled to remove a handful of Torx security screws to get it apart, which reminded me of the super at my old building using a colourful metaphor in reference to Torx bolts while replacing a piston in a 1984 Olds Omega. That microswitch is held open-circuit with the vacuum fully upright, so I thought fudge it, I'm just going to bypass the thing and let the rollers run all the time. Besides, removing the handle to clean higher surfaces cuts power to the head anyway, and I accidentally cut the wires to the switch when trying to cut the cable tie. On mine, that interlock switch that opens with the cover off is near the front of the PCB. It's ust another useless anti-repair device that will also be bypassed. As for the front brush roll, that's just an aluminium rod covered in a thin layer of double-stick tape with a spiral of whatever that fabric is wrapped around it. I had to find and cut quite a few strands but I eventually stripped it clean, and an isopropyl alcohol scrub removed what remained of the tape easily. I'll re-wrap it with the brush fabric of my choice if I decide to use it at all.

I’m well aware of the risks. Incidentally the un-modified switch in my lift-away’s handle popped and sparked upon sucking up a particularly large volume of debris. I have since found out that this switch also controls the position of the suction adjustment valve-or whatever it’s called-so the only conclusion I can draw is that the debris jarred what may be a poor-quality switch causing a dead short. On a side note I have junked the stick vac. I decided it wasn’t worth fixing once I discovered that all four motor mounting lugs had broken away from the dust cup. The outer housing held the motor in place just fine, but to me it was an unacceptable design flaw. Besides, I considered it to be aesthetically compromised.

The switch would mean the brushroll wouldn't turn. In your case, it is almost certainly a clogged filter or hose. Check those out and I'll bet there is an obstruction. Thanks!

It's possible. That would add some load to the motor. In addition, there is a lot of resistance on the motor because of the DuoClean system. Even though it is geared to try and help, I would say it is at least 1.5x the resistance/load that a normal brushroll motor would encounter. Thanks for watching and commenting!

For something that functions similarly but will last much, much longer you cannot beat the Sebo Dart. 10 year warranty if purchased from an authorized dealer, made in Germany, parts readily available, and commercial build quality. They run $500, but you will have it for 20 years. Most users would go through 3 Sharks in that same period. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting!
