A lotta people don't realize - there's a reason it's named "Shark Park!" Awesome vid!

The guy beginning at 1:13 did it right - deep fade left, long sweeping, full arc bottom turn & then pulled up into that short barrel. Well done!

*I used to position my seat on the jet when flying to the Hawaii islands many a big winter swell, just to look down at some huge perfect points and reefs around the Channel Islands.* *Always wondered what it was like, but never really wanted to put myself into the food chain there.*

It catches currents off the tip of the island, it's not a wave to compare to the continental shelf surfing locations because of its location. A bit shifty and not as defined as other breaks, but that is what makes it interesting. The drag is a long way on the undersea mount. It's a beautiful place and not easy to get to, right outside a sanctuary area. A few outstanding surfers enjoyed this location for several decades, one being Brownie, but the winds are always not in favor of a good surf session. Thanks for a great comment!

There have been very few shark attacks at the Channel Islands and it's not so different than anywhere else in CA. Good to know there are people out there like you who are so afraid and take a pass. - 35 years of C.I. experience here.

I remember a wave that you could see miles away off Miguel 30 years ago, maybe this is it. They didnt have tow in surfing them days....you paddled so no one surfed it or needed to. Seeing it miles away gave you the chills knowing that wave is badd.....ass.

These are not normal Surf brakes where surfers. Can hang in the pocket and wait for the sets to come. These are big slabs that you have to get towed in. It’s a different type of wave

Ya ok feel threatened you shouldn't Mavericks is convenient and that's the Truth of the matter. I'm not saying it doesn't rank but let s face it We got San Nicolas 60 miles + off shore versus Less than a mile from a ambulance Mavericks. I guess you could say it's like Yosemite Dome versus Mount Everest. Just have a think about it.

The waves are so heavy, and dangerous, but the great whites populate any area with seals, only a matter of time, if surfers start showing up in numbers, jaws might put and end to this area.
@K38rescue
@K38rescue 2 жыл бұрын
Great comment and true. The wildlife is thick up there. I don't think it will get numbers because it takes so much effort to get there and the winds and weather own it. Easier access breaks on the mainland, not so expensive to go to, but for the soul surfers, they've been here a long time. Thanks for watching

@@johnshields6852 I don't understand how some surfers can sit in 'shark infested' line ups like J Bay and not have a panic attack. At any moment some massive beast could come and bite them in half just like that. It's terrifying.

@@onelovedrumming Nonsense. I guess you don't surf and know anything about surf breaks. Let me explain. Mavericks is recognized throughout the world surfing community as one of the heaviest waves on the planet arguably the heaviest wave which number #1 is open to debate and personal opinion as to whether it is Mavs, Jaws, Nazare (biggest), Shipsterns, Ghost Trees, Cortez Bank, Belharra, Todos Santos, etc. Mavericks is one of the most popular big wave surf spots on the planet attracting the best big wave surfers from all around the world. Shark Park isn't even on the radar.

@freesoul3371 buddy calm down... I've surfed my whole life, lived my whole life in california... was state champ my senior year surfing nssa... But go ahead and insult people because you think you're right. Have you surfed either place? "Heaviness" of a wave is much different from just size... a 10 ft teahupo'o is way heavier than 15 or 20 ft mavericks... (which besides maybe an insane shipsterns, to me is the heaviest wave in the world per size) could be easily the same with this place. Wouldn't know unless you go. But the place looks like it breaks on quite a heavy slab.
