Love this helmet. Super comfortable and very high quality. The only issue I have is the chin vent is east to hit with your hand and close accidentally when closing the visor. Just ordered a tinted visor from you guys. I originally got the chrome mirror shield but its way to dark for my liking.

Hi Brian, thanks a lot for your reviews. Pulled the trigger on a Race-R Pro Carbon version after seeing your review on the helmet. Coming from and AGV K5-S size MS, 57 cm head circumference, ordered an M for the Shark. Unfortunately my forehead and scalp get bit numb after a few minutes of wearing it and the chin strap feels like it's closer to my neck than to my chin. Not quite sure if I should wear it some more around the house to see if it gets better or just return it. The helmet itself looks and feels excellent. Cheers

@@sportbiketrackgear Ended up returning it and getting a refund, I don't remove the visor foil or anything from the helmet until I'm sure it's good for me. Actually got an RX-7V in the meantime and wearing it around the house. The inside is quite different than other helmets I've tried on, it's weirdly comfy while feeling like you're in a tank :)

Yeah bought one on sale recently. It fits snug it's pretty well ventilated when moving. It's a absurdly hot when still. This wouldn't be a issue if moving the visor up didn't require so much effort. It's held in place with a small notch that needs a lot of force to delatch I am constantly worried about snapping it whole trying to open it up. The latch for the lose neck strap is pretty pathetic I wish it was a better button it always ends up flapping in the wind. Apart from those small grievances the helmet is league's above anything i've worn before and makes riding such a joy. There consistently on sale (older models and styles such as this one) so keep and eye out for a good deal. I picked mine up for 375 AUD or 250 USD

How does it compare fit wise to my Icon Lifeform Carbon .? Ive had that lid since 2012 and its time for a replacement.. The Icon fit me like a glove. Ive had Arais and Shoeis and they were not as good as a fit. Hoping the Shark is closer to the Icon. BTW I won a contest from you back in 2011 after buying some tires. Still have my Technics jacket. Bruce, I just pulled my Airframe out of the closet to try it on and compare it to the Shark. I would say the fit in a medium is very close between the 2 for me. You should be good to go with the same size. Congrats on the win! - Brian Van

This is the only helmet that i can change with my X-lite X802RR. I try this summer this helmet and RPHA-11, and Shark is much better then HJC, especialy the quality. And for me personally this is the best graphic desing helmet on market!

The truth is they are both amazing helmets. The biggest difference between them IMO is how quiet the Race-R Pro is. The X-14 is not a loud helmet by any means but it is not as quiet as the Shark. Both vent very well, are comfortable (the fit is very close to the to the X-14 for me) and have top shelf aerodynamics. Hope this helps and thank you for watching! - Brian Van

Helmet Production Date question, How do you read the numbers on the chin strap. All I can find is that the numbers provide the serial number and production date of the helmet, but I haven't found anything on how to read the numbers,

Pretty sure the date code is inside of the helmet attached to the EPS on a sticker. You would need to ask Shark about the numbers on the strap. - Van

@@sportbiketrackgear Thanks for the reply. I have a Zarco helmet made in 2019, doesn't have anything on or in the helmet, only has the numbers and barcode on the strap. I messaged Shark back and forth a few times (they are in France so was a time delay). I registered the helmet on their website but my account didn't give more details. Part of the numbers on the strap is the helmet's serial number, from that they were able to give me the production date. The helmet came with a blue card that has the serial number, I'll have to write the production date on it myself and hope that tech inspection at the tracks don't give me too much hassle ;)

ECE R 22/05 This one really matters if you're going to race all of Europe and that says something. DOT FMVSS 218 USA/Canada You should know this one. INM NBR 7471/2001 Brasil AS/NZS 1698/2006 Australia/New-Zealand There are the multiple standards that the helmet passes for a *★★★★★* rating as well as with the UK SHARP testing. Their methodology is linked below and their site is actually pretty good! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6iWpap8oqaWjcU SNELL certs in the past have had set criteria that has been against the actual data that a good helmet should destroy itself to save your 🐎. That's why a multi-cert is my preferred alternative to the SNELL.

For helmet certs I look for Snell or ECE (the helmets we deal in are all DOT so this is a given for me) and feel safe in either. You can go a step further with the Sharp cert in the UK, they introduce some interesting methods into their own testing for sure. End of the day each of the certs use their own criteria with some crossover seen in their individual methods. If you could tell me exactly how you will crash in the helmet I could recommend the cert I feel would best suit you. This is of course not possible. IMO a ECE or Snell lid from any reputable brand will get you into a safe helmet. There are some that offer features and benefits that increase the level of safety that will typically sell at a premium price. When you are ready to shop for a new helmet start by answering these questions: 1) what type of riding will be done in the helmet 2) which features are most important to you 3) take a good measurement and get a sense of shape (intermediate oval etc...) 4) set a realistic price range Once you have done this do your research before you buy, tons of good info out there (along with some not so good info). Make sure the helmet fits properly before you ride in it (no one can accept returns on used helmets) by wearing it in the house long enough to understand the fit. For a helmet to do its job it has to fit properly, this is often overlooked. Enjoy your holidays and thank you for watching. - Brian Van

Always on agv pista. My dirt championships teenage years neck injuries kick in after 25 mins now that i got 30 and i found pista keep em at bay but the noise is horrible even with plugs. Is the arai corsair x consider heavy compared to shark race r pro and other helmets? I wanna try another premium brand of lid especially after agv got its prices through the roof but also i need it to be comfortable and happy on my neck. Which would you suggest?

The Shark is both lighter and quieter than the Arai. Weight is pretty similar to the AGV and it is for sure much quieter. I would give the Shark a shot, I really like mine alot. - Van

With the Shark Race-R Pro Helmets you have the standard Race-R Pro (the one we show in this video) and the Race-R Pro Carbon. The Carbon uses a full carbon shell and is a couple tenths of a pound lighter than the Standard model. This is the only difference between the 2 models. Like I said I am very happy with mine. - Van

The Shark is quieter and weighs approx .3lbs less than the X-14. Ventilation is pretty similar between them IMO. They are both great helmets, use this to help you choose the one that best suits you. End of the day you will most likely be happy with either of them. I have ridden in both several times and don't have anything really negative to say. - Brian Van

Yes, it will be great on the street just like it is on the track. When it comes to high end helmets the differences between them are not massive, very slight margins when comparing most features. With that said both the Shark Race R Pro and Shoei X-14 have excellent build quality, comparing them head to head I would give a slight edge to the Shoei X-14 there. Really Good Noise insulation and Super stable at very high speed - Just hate the visor notch which is impossible to open with leather gloved soft thumb - U'd hv to stop, remove Ur left glove just to open the visor - No problem with a Thin fabric mesh glove though - I wonder what that Clown who designed the visor notch mechanism was thinkg (no issues with my AGV, Shoei, HRC & Arai helmets)

This helmet comes with a clear shield that has a fog resistant coating that works well. When I rode in this helmet at Barber in Nov of 2017 it was cold in the morning and the shield did not fog under those conditions. If I had an issue with fog I would have installed the supplied mask. - Brian Van

Arai is made in Japan, the Shark Race-R Pro helmets are made in Thailand (factory owned by Shark that produces only Shark helmets). Most helmets are made in China at this point, there are 4 factories producing helmets from most of the brands on the market today. - Brian Van
