They pitched the wrong use case, in my line of work this is so useful, we’re in zoom meetings 6 hours a day and have like 20 windows open multitasking on 3 monitors, being able to quickly mute and unmute without digging through windows will be awesome. I have an officemate that always talks while I’m in a meeting and she can just glance at my desk now and know to be quiet

The main issue was a $2 million dollar valuation with barely $200k in sales, and probably not even half that in profits, for a fairly niche business. If they came in asking $50k for 20% they almost certainly would've gotten a deal and retained 80% of a business worth 10 times what they could achieve on their own. Admitting that they'd been in a thousand stores for a 4 weeks and only sold a 150 units, an astonishing feat really considering that means an average of like 0.03 units per store per week where with most new products you'd have at least a few sales per week from customers who like to buy new things just for the sake of trying them out.

Tbh this design has been invented years ago, for example, the HyperX Solocast, has a button on top of its microphone which mutes you, it also has an illuminating red light showing whether you are muted or not. The mic itself is only $70, it's a great microphone too, I see absolutely no demand in the market for this product.

MuteMe can control other devices that makes it different, I use it with my blue yeti and my AirPods and it works great. Plus i use webex, teams zoom and google meet depending on the meeting (lots of external clients) and having one mute button makes it easy. I have been a big supporter of theirs since their kickstarter and I am surprised this is such a polarizing product.

Interesting idea but, Teams is always listening to the environment and if it hears a noise, like your chair moving, you typing, or even the person speaking in the meeting through your computer speakers, it gives you a notification that you are muted and how to unmute your mic.

Good concept but it could be made for a way cheaper price, instead of making an all in one device that mutes you and shows that you're muted, you could have just made a device that sends a small macro to your computer and just changes color on every tap. This feature is built in in a lot of laptops nowadays, and Loads of softwares already do this including Microsoft's own powertoys. You could have made a product that requires you to install Microsoft power toys and just interacts with the software and acts as a macro, that would barely cost them $1 to make

The company doesn't really match the product. They're operating like a company that would make boutique products, but the problem they're solving isn't worth the price. It should be a cheap circuit board surrounded by LEDs housed in plastic. Landed price should be under $2 and it should retail for $5-10. I also think they should scale it as fast as possible and either license it or exit to a company like Logitech. Those guys seem smart. They shouldn't spend more than a few years working on this company.

It should be 4.99USD and it should work perfectly everytime. EVERYTIME. It should have a battery that lasts a year. The light should not be THAT distracting. The button should rotate to be able to control the volume. Production and delivery cost should be less than 1USD. It should be plug and play with bluetooth and then only then we're talking. I think they could really sell it for 20 dollars actually, I mean it looks high quality, it's something you do quite a lot and the engraving is a really fun concept, but yeah 40 dollars is quite a lot

$40 AND it doesnt connect to your computer? That isn't even close to being worth it. Like Mark suggested, if you could connect this to your computer and mute yourself (maybe even have a switch to turn off your camera as well) then it would be worth maybe 20 bucks. But it's just a button with a red and green light

Ya, not a "need" for anyone. Zoom sucks anyway, most companies uses Google Meet, Microsoft Teams in businesses. The mute button is very small. What they should do, is come out with a product that automatically mute and unmute when the person is talking. That will solve the "You're on mute" issue.

I agree with most of what you said, but that wouldn't work either, because you sometimes need to mute even if you're talking (to maybe a food delivery guy, family member or anyone for that matter). Basically what you suggested does nothing: no sound anyway when you don't talk, so could just leave the mic on at all times.

How is this useful? The mute button is literally on the screen when you're on a zoom/teams call and everyone who's not stupid knows they should mute/unmute based on when they need to talk. This is legit one of the stupidest products I've ever seen in my life.

@@Railerik Some people like physical espescially the elderly and those bad with technology. Plus the light display for people around you. Very niche/small market but theres a market just not for the absurd 40$ price tag
