Sharkbanz are an easy way to add peace of mind to the everyday ocean swim, surf, or snorkel, but make no mistake: the science is real. We enlisted the services of renowned shark experts, marine biologists Dr. Eric Stroud and Dr. Patrick Rice. The two scientists founded Shark Defense almost 15 years ago, and are now the leading researchers in shark repellent technology.
Sharkbanz use no chemicals, batteries, or electricity to deter sharks, ensuring simplicity in use, storage, and durability. Just strap it on when you arrive at the beach, and let your fears fade away.
Our company pledges to donate a percentage of profits to ocean conservation groups with targeted efforts to pass legislation and affect measurable, positive change on our worlds oceans. You can rest assured that with every Sharkbanz purchase, another sea turtle, dolphin, or shark will be safe from harm. We like our toothy aquatic neighbors, but just prefer they keep their distance.
Sharkbanz use special patented magnetic technology to deter sharks from attacking and investigating people. Most shark attacks occur in the shallow waters off Florida and other parts of the east coast of the US, where there are a high number of swimmers and sharks sharing the same space. In shallow, murky waters, sharks rely heavily on their electro-receptors instead of their eyes to “see” what’s around them. They possess the most sensitive electro-magnetic sense of all known animals, and use it to judge distance, shape, and even the heart rate of other animals near them. Sometimes when relying on their electro-receptors, a curious shark may bite a person in order to figure out what he or she is. These unprovoked “hit and run” attacks are the most common type, and Sharkbanz are an excellent defense against them. As the shark approaches a person wearing Sharkbanz, magnetic waves coming from the band disrupt its electro-receptors and it quickly turns away. The experience for the shark is, “like a person suddenly shining a very bright light in your eyes in a dark room, and its not pleasant”, according to Dr. Stroud. Once a shark comes near the band, it frequently leaves the area and does not return.
While there is no 100% guarantee against an encounter, Dr Rice says that by wearing Sharkbanz, the risk is significantly reduced. There’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity, so don’t cross it and provoke a shark by attempting to test this technology yourself. They are wild animals and don’t take kindly to people with bad manners. Respect the animals and they will respect you.

I would need to see the results of an experiment that shows that the impact of the band has a statistically significant difference compared to a control.

@@Sharkbanz-Official the available article doesn't really demonstrate much for the following reason: poor study design. in the study, they used large fishing hooks (and long lines) in order to catch fish; and then looked to see if the implantation of a permanent magnet in the hook caused a decrease in the specific types of fish caught. unfortunately, the data for fish that were caught was not very helpful as none of the named sharks were known for being involved in human attack. moreover, there was a whole bunch of data that had nothing to do with sharks whatsoever. It may be more helpful to see if the presence of the allegedly repellent bracelet (placed on a dummy smelling like human) would repel, ie., cause known threatening species of sharks to leave an area known to have a lot of shark traffic.

I saw that the shark came right up to the sharkband before it swam away? I thought that it would have had a larger radius? So if you have it on 1 ankle.and your legs are spread,could the shark come up to your other leg and take a bite?

The Caribbean Reef Shark is known to be relatively passive and typically doesn’t pose much of a threat to scuba divers, snorklers, swimmers, or other humans it comes into contact with. They actually tend to avoid human interaction entirely. As per theInternational Shark Attack Files, there have been 27 attacks documented since 1960, of which none have been fatal. Of those attacks, it’s believe that 4 of them were caused because the shark mistakenly thought the person was a food source. The rest of the attacks were provoked attacks such as sharks caught in fishing equipment biting the fisherman.
@sealife7
@sealife7 9 жыл бұрын
Why was only once instance of deterrence shown in each of the two "tests?" It can be easy to bring in a good sized feeding behavior of Caribbean reef sharks with lots of opportunity for repetition. Showing repeated cases of deterrence would have increased the clip by nominal seconds and would have better supported your claim than what might be interpreted as a couple of "one offs?" You must have more stock imagery, why not put something together that shows a lot of repetition, you can even speed it up to show more "effective" performance in minimal video time.

Inside edition did a piece where a kid got bit the first time he wore it. So much for being 100% effective. Also, "being patented" say NOTHING about it's effectiveness. Might as well also claim "it's all natural" or "100% natural", which is are other meaningless marketing terms.

@@theharrisfamilyteamharris3217 Fished, boogie boarded, surfed, swam, and snorkled deerfield beach from when I was 3 to 12 years old almost every week. Had schools of fish surround me and spinner sharks jumping within 25 feet of me... Only advice I can give is if there's tons of bait in the water, there's typically more sharks around... and if there's murky water, they're more likely to attack accidentally (they can't see as well). Also pay attention to the migrations of fish...

There is a simple method that works - waterproof a stun gun by completely enclosing in - I fastened one to an underwater torch and hid the spark behind plastic. The electromagnetic wave stopped sharks trying to eat the bait. Cons are that the sparks are intermittent OK from the side of a boat but a bit dodgy in the water. You cannot get a shock off the waterproofed gun in the water by the way.

It won't work because the shark actually got within centimetres of the device, which might be too late for many. If it repels the shark 2 meters away then perhaps. It will be a total waste of money and a very big risk both to the company that makes the device and the user. All it takes is for someone to be attacked wearing the device and the company would be facing law suits.
