Regarding the perceived jealousy issue of Lemon sharks.. it makes perfect behavioural sense for an animal with social dispositions to resource guard and there’s plenty of scientific evidence for this across species. The term “jealousy” is not useful however as the “emotions” we attribute to “human” motivations are highly anthropogenic. Generally, many species show signs of what we might term “jealousy”, yet scientists and philosophers still argue as to whether “emotion” is a strictly human experience (although owning a dog should settle that one easily).

Hi Molly! Assuming you're going to see this or ByteGuy will direct ya😊, as someone who struggles with speaking to a camera, I find that having a person behind the camera that can almost silently nerd out with you -can- greatly reduce the awkwardness you feel when recording. Having a set of digital note cards could also give some relief, as you're not trying to remember and perform all of the information you've collected over a period of time, all at once. In Denmark we have an aquarium called "Kattegat centret", where they are actually training their nurse sharks to swim up onto shallow water, and onto a slide of some sort (not entirely sure). Where handlers can check them for injuries and stuff, and even take blood samples. I remember to have heard that being bit by a nurse shark would be somewhat like being attacked by a bulldog, closing and fixating their jaws.

I LOVE Lemon sharks! They are the first shark species I got interested in when I saw the Kratt brothers at a Lemon shark nursery and just learned so much about sharks from it. I absolutely love the pups! They are so fun to watch and see interact with each other. It was amazing to learn that they could be food trained, and even faster than cats and rabbits. I was watching a rabbit jumping contest this weekend (yes, this is a thing) and now I am wondering what sharks could be trained to do! Wouldn't it be cool if aquariums could do little (humane) shark shows? I wonder if the sharks would be happier too.

I remember seeing some footage years ago of supposed lemon sharks cannibalising each other IN UETERO. I don't know if this is specific to lemon sharks, but it is fascinating and makes me wonder if this has any bearing on the personality traits of the juveniles being studied at Bimini, I.E. shyness vs. outgoing. What do you think? Could you find this footage and maybe show it on a future episode? I really enjoy all of your vids. Thank you! As always, peace and love to you from Haida Gwaii.

Yes, always loved lemon sharks. Many scientists believe that sharks of the same species have different personalities - some are more timid, others more aggressive etc. It's an interesting theory maybe some GWs, tigers and bulls etc. are more inclined to attack people than others?

Another awesome video Kris. 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈 I read in one of my shark books that during mating, lemon sharks will swim side by side so closely, that it can appear as a 2 headed shark. I also read (and it also seems) that lemon sharks are often used in laboratory experiments. I imagine that some of the possibilities for this being the case is that they do well in captivity and are also a social species of shark. I haven't seen that meme.

Hello, I have been watching your show for some time now and absolutly love your content. I and my wife are scuba instructors and I have a wealth of shark knowledge. I wanted to ask a question that my wife asked me. Scenerio ;- We live in St Croix and we have a wealth of black tip reef sharks, there is quite a ot of spearfishing here. One of the locals told my wife by disconnecting your scuba LPI it makes the same sound and vibration as a spear gun being fired. This obviously attracts the black tip reef shark. Question:- My understanding is to attract a shark with food or the apparence of food (Sound and Vibration) would attract the shark to you with the understanding you are now the target and therefore not in anyway a good idea. I wanted to ask you your thoughts on this subject as you are the man when it comes to sharks in my view. Thank you Andy Bell

9:20 when you mention, unprovoked shark attack, what does that mean? What factors are there to mark the difference between provoked and unprovoked? Also, how much accountability is there and how much of a (for lack of a better term) verification process is there to assess/regulate what is a provoked or unprovoked attack?
@Eloraurora5 ай бұрын
He talks about the criteria a bit in an earlier video about the yearly report on shark attack stats.
@factchecker4725 ай бұрын
My understanding is that provoked includes fishing of any kind, as well as deliberate provocation of sharks. To me it's a bit of an unfair generalisation as spearfishers are not trying to attract sharks, nor people who are swimming in areas where fishing may be taking place. The ISAF seems to be the main organization for officially reporting global shark attacks and assessing what is provoked or unprovoked. It recorded Simon Nellist's attack as provoked because there were fishermen on the rocks nearby, which seemed a silly assessment to many of us.

How does a Tiger shark survive in a mangrove lagoon? Are Lagoons pure salt water, I had always thought they are brackish water concentration?
@dapeach065 ай бұрын
I'm sure some mangrove areas are brackish water, but everywhere I've been in Florida and the Bahamas that have mangrove lagoons, its been saltwater. The closer you get to freshwater, the more mangroves will get outcompeted by less salt-tolerant plants
