Shark Tank Australia

4 жыл бұрын

Hugh has tapped into the evolving retail industry and has found a way to bridge the gap between e-commerce and in-store purchases. His booth is installed in a shop and customers can take a picture of themselves and immediately send to friends or directly to their social media account. From that picture, the booth can also send an email to the customer highlighting the products they tried on making it easy for them to purchase, after the fact. Hugh’s product is fantastic for retailers looking to collect otherwise elusive data from foot traffic… will the Sharks see the potential in his product?
An international sensation, Shark Tank AUS features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Tank from our Sharks, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

There are so many times people want to buy something expensive, like sunglasses, but feel guilty because they've already spent so much that day. But, they haven't spend that much TOMORROW yet and you don't feel bad about buying it that day, but don't feel like going back to the store. You basically get the chance to get another impulse buy out of that customer with online shopping for something they've already tried on. It's really clever.
@kaitlyne1870

@Ali Abdul Rehman true, lots of people have once a month experiences (phone bill, mortgage/rent, etc.) but get paid every week or two. Most people I know will buy things with the extra money in between the weeks when those bills are due, but hold onto extra money when paying that bill, in case something comes up. I'm not saying that's good money management, but, then again, neither is buying something you want but don't need because you already have 5 other pair of sunglasses. Also, businesses don't care if you manage your money well, as long as they are getting the money you spend. There are a LOT of products sold that encourage bad spending habits just by being completely unnecessary, that the people on these shows invest in because it will make them money.

@Ali Abdul Rehman So I have a $250 a month splurge budget, last month I bought myself a nice par of wireless earbuds. I really want a Galaxy Watch I won't be buying that Galaxy watch until next payday. This could be applied to clothing as well. If a retailer knew that about me, if they knew "hey this guy wants a galaxy watch, but he didn't buy today" they remarket it to me at a later date.

Yeah she knows more than the others about real retail marketing and customer behavior, and this really showed it. It's absolutely a remarketing-in-real-life app. Plenty of retailers dump more than that monthly cost into online remarketing, and this is arguably an even better investment because customers who have physically visited a store at least once are going to be more likely to re-engage/have the product in mind later than those who have just surfed online.

I'm surprised he didn't get more offers. He had an extremely reasonable valuation (hence why Steve was annoyed that he gave up even more equity). The fact is that the retail space has an uphill battle for the foreseeable future. Connections to online shopping will probably be vital moving forward to the survival of brick and mortar shops. While I agree (once again) with Steve's sentiment when it comes to giving out my email and would never use the product, I know I'm in the minority and that a lot of shoppers would definitely utilize it.

The only reason research shows people are impulse buyers is because that is all there was. This completely removes the stress of having to decide "now". You post your picture and within 24 hours people are commenting on your picture telling you how good it looks. You are going to buy them because you now have validation. I guarantee more customers are actually satisfied with their purchase using this method. I think it's genius.

A little bit more complicated then it needs to be. There should just be QR codes on each product and he should just develop an app to take photos of the QR code on the product and adds it to a cart. He receieves a commission through every sale made through his app. No need for that camera booth shit and maintains the same basic idea and customer data. Plus everyone has a phone, it would be adopted more.

I'm an Aussie living in the UK and have been watching a lot of the UK version, Dragons Den. There's such a stark difference between the Dragons and the Sharks - in the the UK's version the investors are incredibly stern, cut throat and make all pitchers feel terrified and nervous. It's so refreshing suddenly watching the Aussie version and seeing encouragement, joking around and lighthearted banter. It can't be easy coming on these shows, and watching this reminds me why i'm proud to be Australian. Crushing dreams and making people (who may have missed the mark slightly with their idea) feel like a joke seems to the ethos over on Dragon's Den; so much arrogance.

I'm guessing you've never had to pitch to REAL investors then ? They're much worse than the people on dragon's den. These are people their OWN hard earned money. Man he didn't expand enough on the role that data can play for those companies. As an engineer and programmer, I love this idea and think it would be a great dataset for retailers. They know exactly what is failing and succeeding with different demographics. Could do without the RFID tags with some simple machine learning on the products, and then machine learning to gather demographic data.

He's just given retailers the power that makes Amazon, Google, and Facebook so powerful at what they do. Retailer can now just follow their customers around indefinitely until they buy the product. It's weird that the other investors didn't see that. There is of course the trust issue with the device that they will have to work on. I don't know how many people will be comfortable with taking pictures through a black-box type device. But that's about changing perception

All of the 4 were dumb! This is a great idea! She said why not a selfie because a selfie is not going to send a price tag along with the pic to your email reminding you that you just left an amazing pair of glasses and a very cheap price which may look amazing on you still in the store to be sold to someone else! Its brilliant! Your helping the retailers out a bit to where retailers will have a smaller inventory to put on sale! Retailers are forced to put items on sale do to over stock! Makes sense to me.

"If stores had these they'd risk losing sales to people who try things on and don't buy them"??? If stores didn't have these they WOULD BE losing sale to people who try things on and don't buy them. With this you can link directly to their website instead of Amazon or a competitor, guaranteeing them a sale, even if the customer has not left the store with the item in hand. The idea that they would be losing sales to this thing is ridiculous because they'd have the same amount of in-store sales, they wouldn't even be losing those who do decide to purchase, and gaining online sales. It's a net gain here, there is no loss. Say 50 people enter a store and 10 end up buying something. They just lost a potential 4/5ths of potential customers. If 50 people enter a store and 10 end up buying something, then 10 more decide to buy what they tried earlier online, they lost 3/5ths of potential customers and have increased sales for that day 2x over. So how the fuck are they losing money by investing in this??

What if there are better deals online, on Amazon. In physical retail, you just wouldn’t want customers to check for better deals online. You could definitely gather a significant amount of data, the sales conversion part is dicey however.

@@TheRealCraya with this, retailers have the ability to control exactly where customers make their purchase. They can link directly to their product page on their own ecomm platform. The data this can collect is a marketer's wet dream, every shark should have been jumping to invest.

I think their reasoning for saying that is basically this technology targets customers who are on the fence about a certain item, and in a way may possibly push them to decide "Nevermind, I won't get it right now because I can just get it later if I want to" which sort of takes out the impulse of shopping around. But I think they underestimate, with being reminded of these items and seeing photos of yourself with these items, how likely it is to push you to purchase the item. You know it fits/looks good, you don't have to go back to the store to get it, it's as easy as just being like "yeah sure might as well" since you've already done the "hard" part of trying it all on or having to look for it on the website and deciding which size will fit you best, etc.

boi1da1296 in the Indian market, where I’ve worked, consumers prefer to try out clothes at stores and go online to search for the cheapest deals. This has cause the closure of multiple brick and mortar stores. This would just ease the process and give more power to the customer.
