Hi! I'm Korean and I want to give info about the fine dust pollution. The fine dust comes from China, because the Northern/ Northwestern wind blows from them, mainly around Spring. It wasn't like that when I was young, but as China got developed and built more factories in their Eastern cost(which is closest land to Korea) it became a serious problem. So, people try to wear masks in some serious days. I recommend you to download apps that tell you the degree of pollution of that day, so that you can prepare a mask. But don't worry, Korean air isn't 24/7 polluted. The direction of wind changes after Spring, so we don't get fine dusts in other seasons like Summer.

Been trying different snacks, candies and other foods. Also, I found a new connection with my twenty year old son. He loves the Japanese culture and Anime and other programs like it. I’m able to talk with him about things in your videos and he shows me different programs and video games. We even go to the new grocery store together and explore. When I went to Korea and Japan I also noticed that using the subway/ traveling is super easy in Korea, in Japan I got pretty confused the whole time but in Korea, wow, it was the best subway system I’ve seen even compared to my home country. Everything is super easy to understand and you can even use an app, not to mention they put the romanisation under the Korean name so it’s easier for foreigners. The only issue I had is that it’s almost always super crowded and you’re lucky when you get a seat, in Japan it felt a bit more calm but that could just be me :)

I'm an American who moved to Norway three years ago. I miss baths too bc most places in Europe only have showers (for space reasons). One nice thing about these wet bathrooms though is cleaning them is SO easy! You just spray your cleaners all over the floors, walls, sink and toilet, scrub with a long handled brush if it needs it and then spray the whole bathroom down with the shower head. I love it!
@min15496 жыл бұрын
Scandi Snowgirl really! So you prefer Norway? It's more expensive right
@scandisnowgirl36966 жыл бұрын
min it is more expensive here but it’s only a problem if you’re visiting from outside of Northern Europe bc people here get paid really really well. So I don’t really notice the prices so much. Plus when we travel our money goes so much farther! We have a saying “everywhere is cheap for Norwegians” lol
@scandisnowgirl36966 жыл бұрын
Pix lol ok troll. I live in Oslo Norway. I literally only know one person who has a bath instead of just a shower. Most people who have a bath live in the country bc in the cities there’s not enough room for a bath. And yes, Norwegians are paid EXTREMELY well.

Someone commented on a random video of why koreans wear masks and i told them that one of the reasons was bcuz of air pollution and this person kept commenting how it wasnt true and how i was bullshitting it and giving out wrong information as if to scare ppl from coming to korea😂 im like its a fact that air is polluted at times where it gets really bad but omfg she highkey got so sensitive about it asking me if ive been to every part of south korea to say such 'absurd' things

Another common misconception is that most of it is coming from China. And while it is true that some pollution and sand blows over to Korea from China, research shows that the majority of it is actually created by Korea, but the government uses the media to push all the blame on China to avoid having to find an immediate solution.
@sharlainjapan6 жыл бұрын
Shinnel Ferary if it were mostly coming from Korea wouldn’t it be constantly bad then?
@alinamurriate16966 жыл бұрын
Sharmander Ah no. China isn't always bad concerning pollution. Last time I went to china everyone wore masks due to pollution, however the time before that pollution wasn't that big of a problem.
@XxShynixX6 жыл бұрын
No, it's the same case for China itself. Air pollution isn't bad all year round in China, it happens mostly as a result of coal burning in households and power plants which increase drastically in the winter, and even then, it doesn't happen every day. A considerable percentage of Seoul's air pollution is caused by local coal powered power plants, though pollution and sandstorms from China also contribute to the problem.
@LilithM096 жыл бұрын
Face masks with filters, my friends in Korea use them all the time to deal with the pollution when they have to be out on days when it's really bad.

The air pollution for me is one of the biggest downsides of living in Korea (I live in Seoul, too). I'm asthmatic, so a mask is something I have on hand at all times. What I did was buy one from Vogmask (there are other companies that make them), it's a great mask and it's reuseable. I'm happy you're enjoying your time here, Sharla! I'm Korean and lived most of my life in Korea, and things that i absolutely cannot get used to even though i'm a Korean are those : Smelly streets because of poor sewage system, dirty streets with cigarette butts and other trash, people (usually older people) spitting in public with hideous throat sound, air pollution and smog, bad and aggressive drivers who don't give a crap about the pedestrian right of way. Yeah as someone who grew up with spicy food, it's all about raising tolerance and getting used to it. Once you eat spicy food enough, it's no longer spicy and it just gives you a good feeling. Eat even hella spicier often and you'll reach a point where your body sweats and you feel all the endorphins running making you feel great, but you won't even feel the spice. Your tongue gets used to it pretty easily.
@shannon27486 жыл бұрын
Yep. I love spicy and hot food. I started eating hot peppers out of my parents' garden as a kid. I don't find Korean food to be that spicy...and it's a different kind of hot. It is not a fiery hot like Thai food.

Korea is over all cheaper and spacious than Japan, and the buildings and roads are mostly brand new. Cooler and less humid in summer season and warmer in winter season due to floor heating system compare to Japan. And the Internet Speed is way faster than Japan and even if you talk to your friends loudly in the subway or bus, no one will care about it. and rarely happens Earthquakes and very safe streets even though you walk alone at midnight. Security deposit is expensive than Japan but you're gonna get that money intactly when you move out unlike Japan. Many things are better than Japan but also many things are downsides compare to Japan because these two are different countries, and that's it.

You should get an anti-pollution mask. They're quiet bulky (they usually have one or two filter on the sides) but it's really important if you need to go out. You can get them on Amazon or ebay probably. But make sure they're good quality. I’m sure China contributes but newer studies show that South Korea is more responsible for its poor air quality than it might be willing to admit. I love that you’re having a great time in Korea otherwise and am happy to see you ready for new and exciting adventures! You’re beautiful, smart and sharming as always! 😍

Great input on your opinion of South Korea after being here only a month. It's not easy to do, but you can learn more from people who have been here longer! Well don!!

AHHHHH Watching your videos makes me miss Korea so much!!! I loved your videos in Japan and that's when you became my favorite KZbinr, but now that you're in Korea I've got the notification bell on! I live vicariously through you until I can be back there again!!

Yes, so if you go to Korea and want to try some spicy food then just order a food. it is probably spicy. anything written 'spicy' means that it is spicy to Koreans. And it is quite spicy.

From several years ago, the day when the east wind is blowing is the day when fine dust comes, which means fine dust come from China mainland into Korean peninsular.

I loved hearing Kpop songs that I liked as I walked around last year. I will be visiting Seoul again in May. One thing I found difficult was finding an address, are there any tips you have discovered to navigate the buildings?

I've been living in Seoul for a month now as well and one of the things that bothers me a lot here is that people will just spit on the street. -.- So gross. I see people doing it where I'm from (the Netherlands) as well sometimes but that's really not socially acceptable there so it's uncommon
@shannon27486 жыл бұрын
Plenty of them spit when they see you the foreigner walking by too...it shows their disdain towards you.

Great to hear you're adjusting fine and and having fun in Seoul! I'm sure you know by now but just in case wanted to add a few things~ 1. Buses are pretty easy to use too if you use an app like KakaoMap or Naver Map. Also a lot of times much quicker as well. Just ask someone to write in Korean your destination and the apps will tell you what bus or train or a combination to take. Also get yourself a credit card that let's you just use trains/buses with just a swipe. 2. Gyms also usually have yoga / Pilates classes if you're into that sorta thing. But those usually cost a lil extra. 3. One thing I miss in Seoul is Ranch dressing. For some reason Korea has everything now but no one sells Ranch dressing =( 4. Those ads on the street... I advise never look too close at em. 90% are for ... let's just say very very seedy most likely non legal establishments.

I feel so validated. This is rediculous, but when I made the move from Korea to Japan, I was looking for comparison videos that I could relate to. Yours is legit the first one that I was nodding the whole way through. When Eatyourkimchi did their video, a part of me died inside because I just felt like I was crazy and couldn't relate to their experience at all. I wrote this on your twitter, but again, your video is so fair and doesn't paint either country in a bad light at all.
@canond75376 жыл бұрын
Kaitlin Mcandrews Eat Your Kimchi summed up: 1. Say misleading information about Korea without bothering to correct it 2. Escape to the country they truly loved the most, making Koreans feel like they were a stepping stone 3. Create videos for Japanese nationalists with fake IDs to relentlessly attack Koreans to validate their departure. I just hope for peace in East Asia.

Strange Feathers Chill? I'm just trying to break the entire unjust situation down appropriately. I didn't even curse. If you think this was bad, I should probably warn you about East Asian bantering. 😂

I think it is nice to hear different perspective from different people that may have different way of thinking and perceive things and may have different experiences/different situations and there is nothing bad or misleading in this 😁. Its just an healty thing if people think a bit differently...like when you read a comment about a movie: some people says its a nice movie, some people will say its the most awful movie in their life and about what you yourself think can be found out only by watching that same movie👍
@kaitlinsimpson66 жыл бұрын
I agree! Although I felt a bit misunderstood and couldn't relate with EYK's video, I also learned a lot from their perspective.
@manu89266 жыл бұрын
Kaitlin Mcandrews yeah i liked your comment because you just said that you can simply relate more to sweet Sharla way of perceiving and thinking ❤. I wrote my comment more give a wider/more understanding point of view to people writing or just thinking that the eyk channel said misleading things😂 but fact is just that everyone can think and feel differently and if everyone always feels the same way well..then i would watch one yt channel because the others would just say the exact same things!😂😂

Good to see Sharla back on regular programming!! Please be careful while you're living over there. I watched Simon and Martina's video about their friend Rose being run over by a drunk driver, and that appeared to be one of the catalysts of why they decided to leave after 8 years. The image of the air pollution is just so disgusting, but glad to see that the apartment is working out well.

A funny story about garbage on the streets in Japan and Korea. I lived in Japan for a few months and went to visit my friend in Korea. Were both from Sweden and he said the streets are super clean in Korea so I was like "oh it's super clean in Japan as well" and imagined it to be the same. But when I came to Korea it was much dirtier than Japan. It wasn't that dirty but because I had lived in Japan I got shocked and thought it was super dirty.
@myhappylife61175 жыл бұрын
the funny thing is that all foreigners came to Korea saying that the streets are really clean in Korea. some of people even asked how Koreans manage the streets so clean like that.. but only people came from Japan saying that the streets in Korea dirty. so funny.

I really like this Vlog because you gives you the first impressions of Korea really quickly. 👍 I can’t wait til you update this later to see your thoughts after sometime. Okay, byeeee...

We have to put food waste in a little separate bin too in the UK, but it's a fairly recent thing. Rest of recycling goes in one big bin. Seems a pain at first but it means your bins don't smell :)

24 Hr Fitness Sport Center in America with swimming pool and sauna, etc is $30/month, with corporate discount, you could get $25/month. Now the facility is even better especially with basket ball court, squash, cycling, and aerobic with the Instructor via the big giant screen (the instructor doesn't have to be there physically) and you can choose the type of aerobic and choose your own music as well, isn't that nice?

OMG I'm so jealous about the gyms there! That's one of the things I hate about being in Japan is how expensive they are (as well as the no tattoos policy, but that is my choice to have one)

This is why I hardly wear sandals on the streets here...I never got a wart on my foot until I moved to Korea. I have tried everything for years and it won't go away. The streets are filthy.
