@@OldSchoolElectronics I 'carefully' disassembled it and... the rubber pulley has 'melted' (belts probably need changing also). So annoyed it won't be as easy as I thought and means more 'disassembling'.🤬 Would welcome any tips on that job...

I think I had made a video covering that for the GF-9191.

Hi old school, just watched your video of pulley replacement on a Sharp 9595 and that’s the problem, thanks I’ll get some tubing and attempt changing this, I’m from London by the way, thank you for the videos!

Great and good luck! There is even a European seller that sells both the rubber pulley which mounts on the capstan (the shiny metal rod) and the idler wheel rubber. Cheaper, though, if you just use tubing. Comes out to 13.95 Euros plus 2.90 shipping to GB. Reliable seller. www.ebay.de/itm/Idler-Tire-Tape-up-Rubber-for-SHARP-GF-9090-GF-9191-GF-9292-GF-9494-GF-9696/283509957651?hash=item420282a413:g:A-kAAOSwX3FaO5EV

Old School Thanks so much for replying so quickly I’ll get that ordered ASAP in the meantime if I put tubing on the shiny metal rod do you think there will be enough rubber on the pulley so they meet it is around the same as yours on the 9595

That should work. I no longer have the unit, but the young woman that has it now says it (the tubing) still works without a problem (she still plays cassettes).

Hi old school, great video, I’m wondering if you can give me some advice as I have a Sharp 9191 which I’m trying to get working, I changed the belts after watching your video and the tape won’t turn! The forward and rewind functions work and the motor is fine but the belt connected to the counter is not turning, I took off the actual reel/cog that the cassette sits into the cog attached at the top of where the counter belt goes. I noticed that there is a white disc that’s sitting underneath this cog that’s not turning when I press play, this has a rubber surround that had a lot of black gooey stuff on it almost like it was melting so I’m not sure if this has worn down as I’ve now cleaned it and it looks fine, is it possible that the pin that comes out of the motor that this disc looks like it’s supposed to engage in order to turn the reel once you press play has a rubber that’s worn away as it looks like the disc is not quite touching the pin, thanks it would be great if you could give me some advice

You should change both bands (tyres) otherwise It wont play and It Will chew the cassette tape

Looks like its not too hard to reach anything inside does it? I might buy a gf9191 today and try to repair the cassette deck.

Greeting Matias, as far as I remember the GF-9191 (I no longer have these machines) has no screwdriver adjustment at the end of the motor; it has no adjustment at all. Best is to open the GF-9191 so you can see everything. Is there anything wrapped around the capstan, like old tape? You probably know what the capstan is, but just in case you don’t: it is the metal pin that the pinch (rubber) roller presses against when you put the machine into “play.” Is the main belt riding on the flywheel (big metal wheel) correctly? Is the problem with all tapes? I assume it sounds ok, but it is just a little too fast. I believe I have had a case where the tape was too fast because it was not being pinched between the pinch roller and capstan correctly; but the sound was bad too. Worse case: bad motor.

Hi, i have a 9191 and a 9292, i used a sony gr8 as a parameter to compare speed.. 9191 plays fast a little bit, and 9292 faster than 9191, i changed the three belts in both and the small capstan rubber, i will check what u tell me, i guess there is no hole in the motor, but there should be a switch to adjust with a screwdriver just like the one you adjusted for the fm red led, sound is ok un botj of them, thanks for your reply! I ll let you know if i have good news.

hello: i tried to reply via my phone, but i don't think it worked. both of those sharps are great! i believe the gf-9191 has no "switch" (potentiometer) with a screwdriver slot. that is, it has no electronic control.

hi! do you remember or know what size this flat belt has? i may be using a belt not tight enough, causing the tape to play faster. using a tighter one could solve my problem.

hello: i have been traveling, therefore i could not answer sooner. a loose belt (not tight enough), would cause the tape to play slower, not faster. the belt no longer grips the flywheel (big metal wheel) correctly, therefore it will slip--the flywheel turns slower. i think the size was 85 mm diameter.

+Old School Hi, i could finally solve it, the problem was the loose belt (too long) i bought the first time that caused the fast speed. i bought three other belts (smaller) and tested them one by one, bigger to smaller, and finally the smallest one worked in my gf-9292. the one that fits is 26.7 cm=10.50 inches long. the change made a song last from 3min 33 sec to 3min43 sec, just one second in difference from the original song. in other forums people say that the original size for this boombox is 10.1 inches, but i tried that size and it was too much pressure on motor and flywheel, making it play really slow. best regards!

Hey Thanks for yoour Videos and maybe you can help me out. I found the Sharp GF 9191 in the House of my passed away Grandfather. And as i was sitting next to it about 20 Years ago as a Child i need to get it back to work :) I changed the Belts and cleaned out everything but the Tape isnt spinning. It does fast Forward and Rewind but its not playing. I will also replace the Pinch Roller cause its sticky. But still i dont think thats the Problem for not spinning the Tape. I hope you have some Ideas i can try. Thanks for your help. Greetings from Germany

It's been years since I worked on this, but I remember the following: the capstan has a little rubber pulley on it; that almost always is bad on these units. Check that. If not, write again.

HY FROM MARIO DEAR OLDSCHOOL! I AM THE OWNER OF 6 "SHARP JEWELS" OUT OF ORDER DUE TO THE LITTLE RUBBER ON THE CAPSTAN AND THE MAIN BELTS WHICH TURNS THE CAPSTAN BY THE MOTOR! COULD YOU PLEASE SEND ME THE DIAMETER AND THE LARGE DIMRNSIONS IN MM FIR THE LONG BELT? THANX A LOT AND WISH YOU ALL MY BEST REGARDS AND GOOD COURAGE IN "REVITALIZING BEST SHARPS' JEWELS"!

Hi Mario. I think the inside circumference is about 250 mm and it is about 3 mm wide. That would be a diameter of about 80 mm. It is a flat belt. I just picked up a GF 9090 and will be making a video soon. Good luck with the Sharps!
