However that’s still only 1/8th the size of the real battle and it ended up losing money though from the huge budget for those extras. Great film though and crazy achievement.

Are all those gore sound effects with the sword fighting (3:46, for example) added in? I don't remember any of those in the TV or DVD releases. A weird thing that always stuck with me in Sharpe was that cavalry only had to silently tap you on the shoulder with their sword and a soldier was dead. I understand it was because of budget restraints, but still.

Sorry for the late reply, but every episode of Sharpe's Rifles is actually uploaded for free on KZbin! Just look up "Sharpe's Rifles" and the playlist of all the episodes should be one of the first results.

No matter his role, Sean Bean will always be Sharpe, and no one writes historical battle fiction better than Cornwall!

Wish this scene was more like the book's, with the French in columns of two, and the whole South Essex retreated except for the light company. Poor, poor Ensign Denny.

Some years ago, from a local Buy/Sell Facebook page, I was able to pick up almost the entire paperback series - IIRC there were only maybe a couple missing. Paid about £10. Think I might have to go read them all again! 🙂

I missed it as a kid watching this but I now realize why Wellington ordered that that the word of Simmerson was on the flank. It wasn't just to embarrass him, it was also because he knew Sharpe would inspire the men and fight to last against whatever was put against him. And that there was a very good chance an Eagle would be on the field....

Just a thought, but maybe they should give the skirmishers some pointy things to put on the end of their rifles if they expect them to charge line infantry.
