May i ask, what’s your take on the razor sharp edgmaking system, that uses 2 MDF wheels one covered with 180 grit silicon carbide used for making a bur after applying wax and the other wheel is just plain MDF used to polish after applying jewellery rouge on it I wanna buy it for home sharpening cuz in my area there is no places for professional sharpening I want your opinion on the effectiveness of it aside from its cost

Do you ever worry about burning the edges or taking the temper out using belts and not cooling between passes? Great job on the video and info thanks
@CurryCustomCutlery
@CurryCustomCutlery 2 жыл бұрын
Alot of that concern is an overhyped myth that is handed down and spread around. We are going at half speed, with belts that run 30% cooler, and applying it to the belt for fractions of a second. Even microscopically this is no where the conditions that the "belts burn blades" mantra was created under but it makes whetstone guys sure feel better. I really need a video on this!

very informative, i use a wet grinder ,similar to the Wren ,Sabre style , then to a 600# oil stone then to an MDF wheel with white metal polishing compound to hone and polish the edge. your system is faster than mine , but the concept and execution is similar, and results are the same. I am retired and this is pocket money for me , and I am not mobile , but do this in the garage at home. The 1x30 platform like a Rikon 50-161 is the most bang for the buck you can get. It can do world class sharpening and even some light restoration work. Its also a tank and super heavy so not portable like the KO worksharp so tradeoff.

@Curry Custom Cutlery thank you for the response!! I believe the 1 × 30 ur using is not available any more from harbor freight. It has been replaced with a differnt brand/model. If u get any feedback from the new ones from harbor f. Maybe u could put out a video on em. I'm interested in using this style sharpner with aftermarket wheels and bearings and a reversible variable speed motor. Just would hate to buy the wrong 1x30 to start with. Lol

Hey Cliff, I see what looks like a mod for the angle guide and flatten on the Harbor Freight rig. I have made some attempts to do that so I can do small blades that need support without the gap the guide we all use has. And I've thought there could be a better platten, but my attempts so far have not been promising. Any suggestions. I love the new wheels and the Consew motor. @@CurryCustomCutlery I’d love your thoughts on smoothing out the tracking with the upgrade kit. I don’t know if the uncrowned drive wheel makes centering more vulnerable, if there’s an easy fix with the tracking wheel. All the belts show the same tendency to start running to the outside, left, not respond to the adjustment until they move very suddenly to far in, to the right. It’s hard to find a stable middle. I’m sure you’ve figured this out. I second all the replies about how generous you have been and how important it is to the community. Your explanation about edge leading in the Market video was exactly what I needed to hear. That’s a neat machine you are using for stropping. There seem to be lots of variations from China. Thanks once again. Rix
