I just bought one of these last weekend, I was impressed on stuff up to almost 3 inches, as well as the capability of the shredder, then I swung the discharge chute up, and seen the one blade was a sharp as the back of a butter knife, removed then welded and sharpened them, then moved on to other known issues and repairs. Still impressed by what it did while dull.

So I just picked up a 2009 Troy Bilt CS4325, same impeller setup and blades as yours. I am in the process of removing the 2 chipper blades but the chute won’t remove because the engine overlaps it just enough it won’t clear the top stud. I have 2 choices - remove impeller with the impeller removal bolt or cut down the top stud where the chute attaches so it can clear and come out. Such a pain, glad yours came out easy peasy because mine wasn’t thought out with easy in mind.

Don't know if you still have this machine, it's 2 years old this vid but @ 11:10 If you need to do this again, where you removed the centerbold, the beginnen of where that bold is going in, has a bigger screw thread, so you can press it off with a bolt.

Do you need to get the impeller remover tool or could you just put a smaller length of all-thread in the hole and use the original bolt?

You can remove the roll pins on the flails and reverse them. The shredding capacity improves. I used a belt sander on the blades from my mtd. Made a huge improvement.

@@davesmith659 Reverse the flails. They get worn/rounded. A nice sharp square edge chops the material up better.

The bigger single blade and the anvils are for shredding leaves and such. The other two blades on the other side is for wood only. Don't be like me and forget the orientation of the blades so it chips properly. Don't chip the long limbs first. You'll need them as a push stick if anything fails to feed properly. It's cheaper than the 2x4. Also, make sure the chipper is completely clear of everything before shutting down the machine. If it isn't, gravity will wedge the wood against the chipper blades and you will have a hard time reaching the obstruction without taking everything apart. I have the same chipper, and it should have a catchment bag and something to force the material down the chutes. Good luck.

Thanks for the nice video. I just purchased a used Yard Machines wood chipper. Same as MTD. Mine has the 8 hp engine, but otherwise looks like the same machine. When using the chipper chute, my chipper does not work well. Instead of cleanly chipping the branch, it tends to hammer it down such that it wraps strings of bark around the back of the flywheel. It looks like you have the same thing going on where you removed a bunch of material. My question is this. What sort of clearance do you have between the two knives and the lower lip of the feed chute? I have a good 1/4” which seems ridiculous. Seems like that gap should be much smaller.

So you know, great video. Next time when you need that cutting wheel off all you need to do is put the air hammer on the shaft and pull on the wheel.

Good video. How's it been holding up? Are you satisfied with its performance? So many mixed reviews on chippers but it think some people's expectations are a little high. Going to look at the same chipper this week, that's why I wanted to research on how to sharpen the blades. Thanks again for thr informative vid

Honestly, not a whole lot. I was only doing our old dead vegetable garden, so maybe it made a difference for sticks, but I didn't do too much testing prior to taking it apart. Unkess yours is really not mulching well or if you don't suspect something broken, I would say it's more work than it's worth.
