WARNING WARNING WARNING... Don't let the grinder drop off the end of the tip like I did at 5:25. I didn't realize it until watching this video back that I removed a small portion of the tip. It'll be easy enough to fix the next time I sharpen the knife. After about a dozen spine sharpenings over the years, it's the first time that I've made this mistake and will certainly be the last time.

Be carful at the tip. I took some of mine off accidentally. You can see it in the closeups. It'll be easy enough to fix though.

Thanks for the advice. I just bought the companion carbon, and was glad to hear I can use a file, but I also have a bench grinder so I should be good to go.

I don't know why I keep putting off buying a bench grinder. They're not that expensive. I just always grab for the angle grinder.

Those rounded corners on the spine of a Stainless Steel Mora Companion will prevent you from scraping anything. You're going to have to use some kind of a grinding device, an angle grinder, bench grinder, or Dremel tool, to sharpen it before you can scrape fatwood, tinders, and Ferro Rods. Come see how I sharpen this very hard stainless steel spine with an angle grinder to turn my knife into a SUPER SCRAPER. I have a mora robust and I use it for everything. I even used it to hammer a mail in the other day. I also sharpen the spines, with a file, but just good enough to get a spark off a ferro rod. Will be getting my grinder out today 👍. Also will be doing a lads knife spine at bushcraft session and the grinder will help me do it quick. Thanks for vid

I used the 200 grit side of a Harbor Freight diamond stone to sharpen the spine of my orange Mora Companion stainless steel. Your solution was a lot faster.

Can you put a sharp 90 dergee angle on the spine of a Svord Peasant Mini with just a file?

Even some of expensive bushcraft knives can come with chamfered spine. Depends on design and intention I guess. For the spine, my tool of a choice is always bench grinder with some fine(r) stone. I also like to dip the blade in water after each pass. Not necessary, but good practice nonetheless.
