Thank you for such a down to earth and simple instructions for a guy like me. I picked up some me great advice that I didn’t learn from others. The one that comes immediately to kind is that you do not put the flat side of the chisel down on the leather. Thanks a ton! I’ve now subscribed to your channel too! Looking forward to more videos!

Thank you for showing this easy to use sharpening system for timber framing chisels. Could you share what other 2 grits of sandpaper you use in addition to the 400 grit?

I really appreciate the time you take to instruct. I am a retired building contractor but new to timber framing. I'm stoked to learn. What brand of chisel do you prefer and do you have a prefer species of handle? I have been following some traditional Japanese framing and they seem to emphasize a semi-soft wood to handle to minimize wrist shock. Guys my age gotta think about that. Lol. Anyway, love your work and appreciate any advice. BTW. I'm in northern california.

That's a decent system. How long does the emery hold out? and just spray glue to hold it down and how well does it come off when the paper gets dull? The back of my slick.... I can apply a straight edge across the back and I will see light at the edges, so not dead flat. also down the length its not dead flat either, I mirror this on most of my chisels too. but I do get the keep the back flat, and for sure don't round the end! its easy to do.

Yep, we glue with 3m glue spray, it will last about 6-8 weeks in our shop, its easy to peel off and reapply.

Great video. What grits did you use for each step? I searched on Amazon and found an endless array of choices.

Thank you for the tutorial. However, I am not familiar with emory cloth. What three grits should I be using? When I saw that piece of strop it brought to mind what my grandfather used to discipline his sons.

Do you glue the sand paper to the glass?

Missed the part about lapping the back of the chisel. How do you do that with the slick? Do you have a video on that? I have a hard time keeping it flat because of it's weight/length..
