@@shaibidhar5737 Typical, anybody who dares say the truth about India is a racist, but yes you are right where India is concerned i am a racist. But I find it ironic that a person from India, the most racist country in the world should call me a racist. Maybe you should ask yourself what made me this way? When I visited India I certainly had no ill feeling towards the country or its people, I even donated money and toys to an orphanage in Mumbai, what has changed me attitude to you people, is the raise of nationalism in India that blinds Indians to the facts and makes them think they are some kind of master race who has never done or can do any wrong. It is the racism, the hate and the ignorance I see from Indians on the web directed at my country which I love more than my life, and the demanding of an apology, when you people were no better than we were , that is why my attitude towards Indians has changed, so yes where Indians are concerned I am a racist. It seems Indians think that they can be as insuting to other nationalities as thy like and no one can retailate. I hate Indians.

@@englishalan222 Nope, he isn't lying, I am from Bengal and I can confirm its completely true, leaving aside history texts which you'll probably call fake, the sheer amount of rich literature like poems documentaries written by people from that time depict how brutal the famine was. People just died by rotting to death, people would come to beg for the liquid left behind after boiling rice. That's how bad the starvation was. Even the Britishers after some time couldn't watch the condition. As a result they wrote to Churchill to do something and guess what Churchill replied? "If it's so bad why didn't Gandhi die".
@englishalan222
@englishalan222 4 жыл бұрын
@@aringhose3216 Yes he is lying, the Bengal famine was caused by natural events and the pressure of war. The major cause was an outbreak of Brown Spot Disease that attacks rice, so yes the conditions were terrible, as bad as you say but they were not man-made yet without Churchill who shipped 700,000 tons of grain to Bengal the death toll would have been higher. Also what he said about Gandhi was said in jest, people say things like that every day. I hate Indians.

Perhaps they should teach the dark side of India too. The caste system, sutti, thugee, the Awara (not sure I’ve spelled that correctly) tax collectors, stealing young girls for harem, the list is practically endless, just like the pointless wars that we put a stop to. We taught your population to read. Perhaps you wish to return to the days when you could steal a pretty young girl from her mother, have the father beaten to death and confiscate his property, with no option of legal recourse for the poor peasant.

You should mention what Kohinoor is to Western people - The world's largest diamond in the Crown Jewels of that Fat Queen who shamelessly wear it today as if it were hers. It belongs to India since it was mined there in the Diamond mines of Golkonda, A Hindu Empire in South India. British being the sick bastards, stole it from a young Indian crown Prince by forcing the 11 year old to surrender it if he wanted to keep his Kingdom safe from British Annexation.

I’m currently reading Tharoor’s book and it’s been a real eye-opener. I was already aware that the actions of Britain and Britons in the Indian continent weren’t something to be proud of, but when confronted with the stories and statistics it’s staggering that there is a collective amnesia about what happened. Just one example being India having a quarter of the world’s economy before Britain took over, compared to just 3% when they left. India was a relatively advanced civilisation, Britain destroyed local manufacturing and forced it to become agricultural.

"The statistic that India produced 25 per cent of world output in 1800 and 2 to 4 per cent of it in 1900 does not prove that India was once rich and became poor. It only tells us that industrial productivity in the West increased four to six times during this period...National income statistics do not show that during British rule the Indian economy became steadily poorer". Source: Tirthankar Roy, Professor of Economic History at LSE, born and educated in India. The reason that the Indian sub-continent had an estimated 25% of world output was because it had so much of the world's population, over 20%. An industrial Revolution and increased productivity in the West meant India's share of the world GDP became progressively less. This doesn't mean India became poorer, just that the total amount of world GDP grew larger.

@StonkSlayd Britain came to trade and then invested huge sums. The British created an Indian coal industry from nothing, a valuable natural resource for India. Coal was used to power the railways. Without coal India could not have a modern steel industry. Tata Steel was founded by Indians in 1907 and is now one of the largest steel companies in the world. In 2018 the Tata Group "contributed about 4% to the country’s GDP and paid 2.24% of the total taxation in India, the highest by any corporate group". wiki

@StonkSlayd "And on the other side of the balance sheet were the immense British investments in Indian infrastructure, irrigation and industry. By the 1880's the British had invested £279 million in India, not much less than one fifth of their entire investment overseas. By 1914 the figure had reached £400 million. The British increased the area of irrigated land by a factor of eight, so that by the end of the Raj a quarter of all land was irrigated, compared with just 5 per cent of it under the Mughals. They created an Indian coal industry from scratch which by 1914 produced nearly 16 million tons a year. They increased the number of jute spindles by a factor of ten". Niall Ferguson, Empire

Lord Macaulay's Address to the British Parliament on 02/02/1835: I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage and therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation.

Thana64: Thanks for the 1835 Macaulay's address to the British Parliament. I have been searching for this quote for a while to augment my comments of what the British wanted an Indian to be like - an aping Briton but in colour having washed his personality and his heritage out of his body and soul, and turning him into servile subservient bapu - ever nodding his head side-to-side in agreement to his master's voice and command. Macaulay did manage to the the Indian Education Act passed to gets Indians to communicate and dress in English manner. Some of the old top Indian colleges of Indian still to this day continue with this remininants of the past British Raj glory. It took someone with the stature of Mahatma Gandhi to stand up to these racialist imperialists off the back India.

Strange you say that, because I have SEEN FOUR Memorials to Indian troops, one in Seven Oaks and one in Brighton and another in Hyde Park LONDON, there is another in Liverpool. Also the Cenotaph is a memorial to British and COMMONWEALTH troops. Strange is'n't it that every year Indians come to London, veterans to lay a wreath on the Cenotaph with the queen. I have my doubts that you ever lived in London, you are too anti-British, if you had lived in London you would know that people from all over the Commonwealth lay wreaths on the Cenotaph EVERY YEAR, invited to do so by the Queen.

Unlike China, Britain’s industrial revolution and overseas expansion was driven by a military policy. According to Hobson, during the period from 1688-1815 Great Britain was engaged in wars 52% of the time[3]. Whereas the Chinese relied on their open markets and their superior production and sophisticated commercial and banking skills, the British relied on tariff protection, military conquest, the systematic destruction of competitive overseas enterprises as well as the appropriation and plunder of local resources. China’s global predominance was based on ‘reciprocal benefits’ with its trading partners, while Britain relied on mercenary armies of occupation, savage repression and a ‘divide and conquer’ policy to foment local rivalries. In the face of native resistance, the British (as well as other Western imperial powers) did not hesitate to exterminate entire communities[4]. Unable to take over the Chinese market through greater economic competitiveness, Britain relied on brute military power. It mobilized, armed and led mercenaries, drawn from its colonies in India and elsewhere to force its exports on China and impose unequal treaties to lower tariffs. As a result China was flooded with British opium produced on its plantations in India - despite Chinese laws forbidding or regulating the importation and sale of the narcotic. China’s rulers, long accustomed to its trade and manufacturing superiority, were unprepared for the ‘new imperial rules’ for global power. The West’s willingness to use military power to win colonies, pillage resources and recruit huge mercenary armies commanded by European officers spelt the end for China as a world power. China had based its economic predominance on ‘non-interference in the internal affairs of its trading partners’. In contrast, British imperialists intervened violently in Asia, reorganizing local economies to suit the needs of the empire (eliminating economic competitors including more efficient Indian cotton manufacturers) and seized control of local political, economic and administrative apparatus to establish the colonial state.
