I am a senior citizen and have been a diehard fan of SJ. They were ably assisted by the legendary Sebastian D'Souza who arranged the strings section and Dattaramji managed their percussion side according to what I have read. KZbin has many such information. SJ compositions ate evergreen 😊

Wonderful multidimensional talents of Shanker Jaikishen. Beautiful clippings speak the high legendary qualities of the duo. The gr8 connoisseurs, music being their forte & in their veins, their repertoire & vintage speaks of their excellent work as a legacy for the Bollywood in general & music in particular. Shashi ji has worked hard for various clippings. One of the finest example is from gunahon ka devta song "chaha tha banoo pyar ki raahon ka devta" by Mukesh with excellent violin orchestra.

Jagjitji every word of your comment is worth million dollar for me. I come from a village which is not far from Jaikishanji's birth place Vansda. One of my friend now over 75 years old said to me, his father in law was Jaikishanji's chidhoodfriend. And jaikishanji always used to play in front of all his friends on harmonium. Shankarji equally enjoys my love and respect. And in the end, Jagjitji, please accept my "Pranam " as a token of love and respect to another unknown person, only linked by his beautiful comment.

In India, there is place called " Vansda " , a small village of gujarat state. Here, there is a statue of the Great Jaikishan. It is worth while going there. His composition strategy - By making small group like array of 20 violin players - one above the other - one above the other and so on ( totally 110 +) and then by adding low octave Piano punch used to end with a mandolin slowly. Then 1.5 sec gap !! This symphony had a mesmerizing effect not only on human mind but on a mummy too !.

Shashibhushanji deserves a Ph.D for this wonderful work. All the members of our family grew up listening to SJ and other great composers. What we observed all through our life in SJ, Shashibhushanji brought together in this collection of violin preludes and intrludes. Shashiji ! kudos to you for your musical sensitivity and clear understanding of SJ music. SJ 's contributuin to Indian film music is amazing. To understand what SJ did, and Shashibhushan did, one should KNOW music !

How about chorus singing by (particularly female voices). They were masters and no other director could match their proves. The drums and others were different for each song and people say that their assistants Duttaram and Sebastian were very meticulous in following S.J's instructions. and the team created golden history together with Sailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri.

Everyone who has listened these music pieces, in general and Rahul Riviera ji, in particular, may kindly note that Sebastian D'Souza DID NOT compose these music pieces; these were COMPOSED by Shankar-Jaikishan! Don't confuse with today'' Music Directors who leave the job of composing preludes, interludes and postludes to the `arrangers' because they can't do it themselves. Moreover, these days, it is done by the arrangers or the so-called `programmers' through computer programming which generates a large number of pieces from which arranger selects the ones which appear suitable and fitting with the song. Shankar-Jaikishan DID THE JOB OF COMPOSING PRELUDES, INTERLUDES AND POSTLUDES AND EVERYTHING ELSE IN THEIR SONGS THEMSELVES as they were BOTH fully competent to do all these. In fact, this is precisely what makes their music so unique and noteworthy. Their assistant (NOT arranger!) Sebastian D'Souza looked after the following `arrangements': (i) to write the musical notations of all that composed by Shankar-Jaikishan (i) to call the requisite number of musicians to play various instruments as per the requirements/direction of the composers (iii) distribute the the notations to all musicians (iv) to conduct rehearsals for all musical parts (v) to conduct joint rehearsals (vi) to assist in conducting the complete rehearsals of the complete song and finally, (vii) to assist SJ in conducting the orchestra in rehearsals and in final recordings. Of course, with such a long association with SJ as his, some creative inputs now and then, which may be acceptable to SJ who HAD the final say, is obviously not ruled out.

Shashibhushan Hegde Ji, I'd love to have a similar musical analysis of their use of the Piano. Dōst dōst nā raha and Dil kè jharōkè mè have unsurpassed piano orchestration, with a Beethovenesque passion - dard and gam.

most of the songs that used violins in the composition were composed by Shankar The Genius. while most the songs that used blowing instruments especially sax & teno-sax were composed by Jakishen. Hence, almost all songs in the video above were composed by Shankar-The Real Music Genius. Jaikishen was excellent too. No doubt.

A wonderful collection from the maestro's output. Mind you...I don't think you can really compare SJ to Mozart or Beethoven who were genius's of an altogether different calibre - indeed SJ said an interview that the these were 'greats beyond compare'. Having said that, SJ's use of tabla's etc is something Mozart/Beethoven would themselves applaud.

Although others are not as fine as SJ, multilayered violins didn't end with SJ thus it followed with LP, Naushad, Madhan Mohane etc.. and became a signature of bollywood compositions for decades until 20th century ruined everything

Your editing is superb continuity is superb maintained. But you are misleading the music lovers with your perspectives and angle. Why are the songs before 1953 not so fantastic ( strings wise) your years you have written are perfect. It was Sebastian Sir who brought these colours of violins. SJ I love them very much. But you are misleading the music lovers that SJ started Counter Melody. Counter melody is a western classical music theory subject. It were Anthony Gonsalves Sir Sebastian D Souza who implemented counter melody in hindi films. You still don’t know my dear that counter melody was and is used even today. Various music directors have played counter melodies on base guitar, mandolins piano. So please its a suggestion be honest and write.
