I can say that as an autistic person, when you receive devastating news, it’s pretty difficult to react to it like the average person. Sometimes you don’t even react at all at and some people think you’re selfish when in reality you’re dealing with it on the inside because you don’t know how to properly display your emotions. For me, it’s like that.

I've recently had a heart to heart with my adult son (Aspergers), three and a half years after his dad died very suddenly. All this time I've been walking on eggshells and he's been angry with me - we've had many nasty rows. He was very close to his dad and he made me feel like the wrong parent died. He wouldn't talk about how he was really feeling until recently. He's still broken and devastated. What he needed was for me to just love him and hug him and KNOW that he did still love me and need me to be his Mum, regardless of how things looked. I couldn't, until now, because I'm still grieving too and I was trying to avoid conflict - I really felt our relationship would never recover, which broke my heart. We have really turned a corner now and can talk easily again, about his dad too! I'm so thankful and happy that our relationship is restored. ❤

@@lynnatk50 oh my goodness, I am so sorry for your loss. Neither you or your son deserve to go through such an immeasurable amount of pain. I can tell that you were doing everything in your power to make sure that your son would feel better and as a parent, that is the best thing you can ever offer them. Just know that your efforts are never in vain because a parent that has a child with autism or Asperger’s can be some of the most challenging moments of their life. It will have its mixtures of ups and downs. And I’m also really sorry that your relationship suffered because of it. The best thing anyone can do for their loved one during trying times is to let them know that you’re always there for them no matter what. I hope you and your son feel better soon. ❤️

And because of the death of his eldest son his father, remembering him again and blaming him because his f avorite son died, feels pain. I think he didn't come home that day and was adopted by a famous doctor. ((The same one he carried his bunny with🐇 when his drunk father took him out of his hands and killed him against the wall)) He's here because his mother called him when she heard about him to see if she could cure his father's very advanced cancer. I'm the same. Sort of... I was in college, but home for the summer. My mom, step-dad, sister, and I, and my Uncle, who worked out of the country (we had to plan around his schedule. It was June) , we were at my grandma's house to clean it out. She had passed in February. My mom and step-dad had to handle everything just them, my Uncle and I both could not get flights in time to be at the funeral. My stepmom called and said that our grandma on the other side was failing and we needed to get up there stat if we wanted to say goodbye. It was an 8 hour drive north. My sister and I were ready in like 15 minutes. Our other aunt was going to take us so our mom could keep working. Our cousin had a 2 or 3 year old child (I was 22 or 23, so she couldn't have been more than 18! We hadn't seen them in years and years....) , and it took her and her mom 3 hours to get across town to where we were. Like a 20 minute drive. I know prepping a toddler to go on a longer trip takes a lot of planning, but at the same time in a situation like that, you grab tons of extra and sort out what you really need later. (I currently have 2 teenagers, so I've been there) We missed getting to say goodbye by less than an hour. 😢 I'm 45 now and it still gets to me.

No no the way the show people with autism in the show is extremely exaggerated. Even with people with many various “ intensities” don’t experience half the stuff that this show try’s to show. My best friend is autistic and so is my little brother. They both have very different behaviours but have never shown any type of reaction like this to anything. It’s very harmful for the autistic community, many feeling even less seen and treated as if they aren’t people whilst others have to put up with people telling them they are autistic because they don’t act like this character.

Just because it doesn't relate to your personal experience does not mean it doesn't for others I think he is good representation for extreme autism, no he should not be the image for the entire spectrum but he is a good starting point for extreme autism, he doesn't just have autism either he has other behaviorial disabilities as well you should probably rewatch the show.

But when something drastic or unexpected happens I lose control. I was eating popcorn one time and the crown of my tooth broke. I looked at it in my hand and felt the tooth with my tongue. There was such sensitivity that I started to panic. My mind went blank and I started shaking and crying and hitting myself in the head. Yeah, if that's what you consider parenting then that's bad parenting. Why did this only cross his mind at that point? Why was this not considered in advance? Being a parent, a responsible parent, is considering these thing sin advance so that you are not left in this situation where you have to fight an autistic child in the wilderness to get him to comply with your desires.

It’s kind of hard with neurodivergent people tho. To us it will seem mean. Bc when you aren’t neurodivergent you won’t understand how certain things will make us feel. Physical touch being probably the most sensitive part. So yes, most of parents and society will say he did a good thing, but he could’ve been better at trying to understand why he is the way that he is. Forcing someone to do something (especially neurodivergent people) will create more trauma. Hence needing support animals or therapy/medication.

I'll be the paragraph person. Series: The Good Doctor Basically the younger guy (Shaun) is autistic and when he was younger his dad used to abuse him and treat him badly. He also had a bunny that used to calm him down but his dad killed it when he got mad. Here his dad is dying and Shaun is finally forgiving him. At the end the older guy Shaun basically looks up to like a father and Shaun got overwhelmed by his dad's death and to cope his foot started shaking which he didn't like.

That's great. Have one too. Her father's side of the family refuse to believe it, they say it's developmental delay and I'm raising her wrong. She didn't like visiting them (they force her to act "normal") but she adores my family. After getting help and getting her to interact with people and her environment in a better way, they're all like "told you she'll outgrow it". When she has bad days or displays behaviour they find "wrong", they lecture me on how to "correct" her. It was so frustrating, but I've learnt to just ignore them as they blab.

“death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal” sure our fathers may do things we dont like, or tell us something is not safe, but they only want whats best for us, and we should cherish the time we have with them, cause all it takes is a second and they can be gone. so to everyone who sees this, go give your dad and mom a hug, tell them you love them. cause one day youll wish you had told them, and you wont be able to!

As an autistic myself, I had to watch as someone passed in front of me, my grandmother died just before I was gonna call an ambulance for her as she wasn’t well for the past few days, then she just fell and passed, I was in a panicked state and even though I called the ambulance and nearby family to help me it was too late, I just sort of broke down, at first I was crying my heart out when it was announced, then my emotions just got, locked out, I barely spoke or talked to anyone about it for days and even prayed it was all a nasty dream, so seeing this kinda reminded me of that, as an autistic person I emote and act differently from others and even other autistics Seeing this reminded me of that and it’s honestly perfect how this side of grief in a autistic person is shown

One thing i've noticed is how younger Shawn didn't seem to have the same speech impediment that he has now that he's older; i believe this to be a demonstration about how autism is generally left unnoticed up until teenage years, where the first symptoms start to show and thus the speech impairment. I believe this to be a pretty accurate depiction.
