For zombie's i'd reccomend the original Romero trilogy, "night of the living dead" "dawn of the dead" and "day of the dead". For zombie comedy I'd say try the newer serie's "daybreakers" or "Cootie's" for a laugh😁

Most of the extras are fans of the Pegg/Stevenson comedy series 'Spaced' that Edgar Wright directed. They put out an open call on fan groups for help making their movie to keep the budget down. Series 1 Episode 3 of the series was the direct inspiration for the film with 'Tim' hallucinating after pulling an all nighter playing Resident Evil 2. Jessica Stevenson plays Yvonne of the 'alternatives’. Also, Shaun’s flatmate Pete was the speaking voice of Darth Maul from ‘The Phantom Menace’.

The woman that plays Yvonne, she meets Shaun and Liz several times throughout the movie, is Jessica Hynes, Simon Pegg’s writing partner on the TV show ‘Spaced’, and it’s also where Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright started thinking about this movie after one of the early episodes had an opening where Simon Pegg’s character is dreaming that he’s in a zombie apocalypse after playing the video game Resident Evil 2.

I love how exacerbation is the underlying theme of the whole movie. The biggest joke is when Liz is trying to console Shaun towards the end, telling him that the most important thing is that he tried, when all he'd done throughout the movie is make things worse.

Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost worked together on a show called Spaced which was very similar in flavor to these movies ... then Shaun of the Dead, then Hot Fuzz, then World's End and you can see the progression of their work as you move forward through these movies. I think this phase of Edgar Wright's filmmaking culminated with Scott Pilgrim... Later films seem to go in a different direction. He was originally supposed to direct Ant-Man... that would have been interesting to see.

This was Simon Pegg's first movie writing credit, which may be why it seemed to be a little less polished. Hot Fuzz and Run Fatboy Run came a few years later, in 2007, with Paul coming a few years later in 2011 and The World's End in 2013. If you haven't seen it yet, another great zombie comedy is Zombieland (2009), with Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Emma Stone.

"[about Ed] He's not my boyfriend!" "[handing beer to Shaun] It might be a bit warm, the cooler's off." "Thanks, babe. [winks at Ed]" Fun Fact: George A. Romero, creator of the movies to which this movie pays homage and lampoons, was so impressed with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's work that he asked them to cameo in Land Of The Dead (2005) as zombies. Spaced Background Fact: Many of the zombie extras are fans of Spaced (1999), which also starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and was also directed by Edgar Wright. They were recruited through the Spaced Out fan website. All of the newsreaders and television presenters are real people portraying themselves. Multiverse Sequel Fact: Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright considered a sequel that would replace zombies with another monster, but decided against it, as they were pleased with this movie as a stand-alone product, and thought too many characters died to continue the story. The proposed title idea "From Dusk Till Shaun" did have an afterlife as a mocked up poster that can be seen in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018).

This film is untouchable IMO. A straight 5 star zombie-comedy classic. It is SO tightly written and shot, it's just overflowing with good jokes and humour, the acting is all fantastic, Dylan Moran as David is particularly affective as the jelous douchebag, it's just so good. I genuinely don't think we'll ever see another horror-comedy as good as this one. Others have come close, particularly Tucker and Dale vs Evil, but nothing has made it to the same level yet and it's been 20 years.

Hot Fuzz probably seems more polished because it came out 3 years later, and the whole gang has had more time to really improve. They were all on TV series before this, but Shaun of the Dead was their first actual movie, smaller budget, etc. By Hot Fuzz they've all clearly levelled up. All of Edgar Wright's movies are very different, yet the "story-telling" aspect is always engaging. You should watch Scott Pilgrim vs The World (2010)! He directs that one also, plus it takes place in Canada (Toronto, I know a lot of Canada hates it but it's still good I promise). Also my other favourite movie that I really hope you do is Arrival (2016)

Before you watch Land of the Dead, you must watch the original 3 Romero zombie movies: Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead(where "SotD" got its idea) and Day of the Dead. You should actually watch these first before you watch any zombie movies. These are the ones that started it all.

Each one of the trilogy is a very different movie, with some of the same actors. This one was a brilliant parody of and tribute to the zombie genre, especially the Romero movies. As you discovered, Romero himself really liked it. Hot Fuzz is a brilliant parody of and tribute to the buddy cop genre. And the third movie, World's End, is more of a character piece. It's hard to describe, you just need to see it, and I definitely recommend it. It's got a great cast, and a good script. Just be sure to do a blind viewing, as spoilers will ruin some of the plot points.

So glad you liked this! I saw this first and loved it more than Hot Fuzz but I've since come around and and like them about equality. It may matter which you see first as that sets expectations and they're kind of different. I really quite like Land of the Dead. It's got some interesting ideas and i never knew that Pegg and Frost had a cameo. I'll have to keep and eagle eye out. Thanks!

About the cameo in Land of the Dead: when I first saw it I did not recognize him. I later found out about and looked it up. So good luck with your search for the cameo but if you also miss it the first time you can always use a search enginge of your choice. :D I'm looking forward to your movie reacts to George A. Romero's works. Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead are perfect choices but also Night of the Living Dead from 1968 which redefined the zombie genre and shaped it into what it is today.

Surviving a zombie apocalypse depends on the type of zombie. The classic zombie yes absolutely as I live near a church that has locked tight grounds plus heavy doors and high windows. Guns would be a problem as in the UK we don't have that many but again luckily there's a shooting range that shoots clay pidgins so could raid that with whatever ammo there and o can use a bow not greatly but it's a zombie apocalypse I'll have nothing but time to train it's not like I'll have work

Dylan Moran (David) in Black Books is hilarious but you will find a lot of the films actors in that (even though it was a British tv show) - Simon Pegg, Nick Frost etc. I think Hot Fuzz steps it up as it has some of the big names British comedy in it

I've seen this movie upteen times & it always amuses me how the main characters have no way to protect themselves. Being the U.K. there's no gun ownership & highly restricted knife ownership they make light of the fact that Shaun & Ed are forced to throw small appliances & records and even pillows at the zombies in order to fend off the slow-moving attackers.
@petercofrancesco9812
@petercofrancesco9812 9 ай бұрын
It compliments the lighter mood. The movie is more about the relationships between the characters instead of a shoot'em up action horror flick. Even when they have access to the rifle they're terrible shots which makes it feel like how real people would perform in a crises.

Here's a fun story and a bit of trivia - for the premiere of The World's End (which, while it's the weakest of the three Cornetto Trilogy films, I still think it's great and thoroughly underrated), I attended a marathon showing of all three of the films, timed to begin The World's End at midnight on its release day. It was great fun, they served Cornettos in the intermissions! More to the point though, each film first had a short intro video from Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright, and in the intro for Shaun of the Dead, they informed us that the movie contained 77 uses of the F word, asking that we applaud each and every time we heard it. Edit: I think I'd do ok compared to most in a zombie apocalypse, since I've got some simple survival and fighting training, but statistically the odds still arent great for just about anyone's long term survival. I'd take my motorcycle and as many supplies as I can handle, go to my parents' place in the countryside, and figure the rest out from there.

Re: your question on whether we'd survive the zombie apocalypse. Approximately 15 years ago I met Max Brooks, the author of The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z. He asked my friends and me, what our zombie survival plan was. He said that every person he meets feels compelled to share a very detailed plan with him. My answer was simple: get bitten and get it over with. He said that I was the first person to have that answer. I doubt that it's so as it seems quite a simple way out, he was probably just being nice. nonetheless, here it is.

There are quite a few good zombie movies: this one, Zombieland, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Return of the Living Dead, and although I consider it more of an “infection-type” movie than a zombie film, some people disagree with me, but 28 Days Later is very good.
